The Gordon Hayward Question(s)

Discuss Gordon Hayward

How do you feel about his progress over the season? Will he ever be an All star? Was he a better pick for the Jazz than Paul George? Future captain and leader of the team?

Not long ago David Locke said "this team will one day be Gordon's team and the players are waiting for it to happen". I thought at the time that his comment was a little premature. Gordon Struggled for about 8 games after that statement was uttered.i've noticed that Locke has become much more modest in his Gordon Hayward Comments. Hayward is an interesting player to me. He has a lot of skills and abilities. I do think that if he is not derailed by injuries and continues to work hard, the rock bottom of his potential is solid starter in the league. I think Hayward will be more than that though. I think the numbers he'll be able to put up on average will be something like 15-18 ppg 4 assists 4-5 boards. His progression over the season has been great. I became a little incredulous at one point about if Hayward would ever be able to shoot a decent percentage; i think he'll be just fine as his career continues. he is starting to figure out where his spots are on the floor as well as how to approach each game. I've never questioned his tough play. He plays hard and he's tough. He's earned my respect for that. He does things that help you win games. He is a great system player (the Spurs would love to have him i imagine) and so i think he'll be better for the Jazz than Paul George. Also, I think he is more appealing to the Utah Jazz fan base. The fact that he is a clean cut kid from Indiana with no tattoos does play a role there . I think he will eventually make the All-star team. and i do indeed think that as the young core of the Jazz grows up, he'll emerge as the leader.

I absolutely love Hayward. Bot only because of his talent, versatility, and winning attitude. But because he simply works his *** off. He has improved every area of his game. He has become a good passer, finisher, and defender. He plays calm but tough. He never backs down, but he is not at all self-absorbed. He wants to win, and he's willing to do what it takes to accomplish that. I foresee great things in his future, and I hope Burks can learn from him.

I don't care how good George or anyone else is. I think Hayward was a very successful pick.

Well said!

I am a big fan of Hayward. One thing I like about him is his humility. Have a little attitude on the court but they guy is not a flashy in your face person off it Love it. Only jerseys I have bought are Hayward jerseys.

It's crazy to me that Ron Boone and Coach Nisalke both said that he reminds them of John Havlicek... That is Sweet. WE should start calling him Gordon Hondo Hayward. ;)

I love how this kid (Hayward) is coming along. He's going to be a fantastic basketball player for a long time..I just hope he sticks around in Utah.

Agreed.
Very very impressed with his development. I was one who HATED the decision to draft him, and i was VERY wrong and i am VERY happy to be wrong.
Hayward is joy to watch... great passing, bball IQ, shotblocking, running the break, starting to hit 3's, Terrific free throw shooter, and decent rebounder.
I couldnt be happier with hayward play and corbins willingness to play him big time minutes whether at the 2 or 3.

The only thing you say that I'm not sure about is the comment that the fact that he's clean cut and doesn't have tats is important to the fan base here. I've not seen anything to suggest that the fans haven't embraced other players completely who were not clean cut or didn't have tats. Case in point, D-Will. Up until his blow up with Sloan, he was fully embraced by the community, was he not? I think you're selling the fans a bit short. I don't know, do others agree or disagree?

I agree. I find that claim similar to the ever popular absurdity about Mormons and polygamy. It is wrong. Very few fans care about tattoo density or hair style. Fans care about passion and loyalty. I haven't seen anything to indicate otherwise. Hayward was booed for being perceived as "too white" by like 10 thousand people for ****'s sake.

I Think that a clean cut kid with no tattoos is appealing in a different way to a portion of Utah Fanz. D-will was great and of course everyone embraced him, But i think if some utah Fanz had to pick between D-will and Hayward as the face of the franchise (keep in mind i am speaking stictly off appearance) i think they'd choose Hayward.

Just goes to show, no one should ever doubt KOC again, he is the best GM in the league. He flubbed up a few times with late 1st rounders but got it right every time he had a moderately high pick.

I'll admit I was in the anit-Hayward club when the pick was announced. Obviously, KOC knows more about basketball than anyone on this board not named honz.

Gordon is developing into an AK-like player. Not in terms of dominant shot-blocking, but in terms of having multi-talents. And he can SHOOT. Jazz do need a solid PG, but the offense can eventually flow through Hayward as he's shown his passing ability. I see him in the 18-4-4-2 range. And that might be enough to get him an eventual all-star berth.

-he keeps getting better and is a hard worker

-super competitive, hates to lose

-he got better without a training camp or summer league

-he's white=higher chance he stays in Utah.

I agree with the first 3 points but the bolded one is pure conjecture on your part. A stupid one in my opinion.

Stupid and Beantown are synonymous. You should have noticed that by now.

18-4-4-2 would DEFINITELY put him in the allstar game. Those are bloody rare averages.

I like Hayward, but I see him as more of a Scottie Pippen type player than a Michael Jordan type player, that is an all star with an all around good game but not the dominant superstar.
