I'm seen plenty of people wanting Millsap to come off the bench. I've seen a few people wanting Big Al to come off the bench. Assuming both are still here at the start of the season, do you think either will be coming off the bench? It's a simple yes or no.

Either one would dominate off the bench. Milsap just doesn't have the size to be a starter, but he would dominate the second team as PF. AJ would be pretty good off the bench too. Put him in with Evans who can get all the backside rebounds when he shoots against triple teams. Favors needs to get experience as a starter if he is going to become elite. The other 2 have the experience, and unfortunately have shown that they aren't elite.

That being said, I think that Favors will come off the bench of both AJ and Milsap are on the team. I don't think they have the guts to bench AJ and they want to keep Milsap around, so they will tread lightly with him. I hope I'm wrong and there is a chance that I will be, but I don't see Favors starting until they get rid of one of the two.

This.

In this case, I hope so too. Come on Ty. Make the tough decision!

We pay Al too much to bench him and possibly hurt his perceived value .. No matter how limited that may be.

If Favors is not starting next year....Well lets just say I will be very outspoken about how much Ty needs to be fired. If they don't start running some ****ing plays for Favors this year I'll be almost as annoyed.

Remember, we tried starting Favors at the beginning of last season, only to find he wasn't quite ready.

Hopefully he's ready this season, and Millsap still is okay with doing what Coach wants.

Where's the choice for "neither"?

If Al and Millsap are still on the team at the beginning of the season, expect them to start.

As usual.

Among the top 20 most used lineups last season, these were ones with positive +/-, listed in descending order of +/- per minute (or 30 minutes or whatever you prefer):

*Harris-Hayward-Millsap-Favors-Jefferson
*Watson-Miles-Hayward-Millsap-Jefferson
*Watson-Hayward-Howard-Millsap-Jefferson
*Harris-Burks-Hayward-Millsap-Jefferson
*Harris-Miles-Howard-Millsap-Favors
*Harris-Bell-Hayward-Millsap-Favors
*Harris-Hayward-Howard-Favors-Jefferson
*Harris-Miles-Hayward-Millsap-Jefferson (most used lineup that was positive--barely).

In other words, the best answer might still be Millsap-Favors-Jefferson on many nights.
Was tried for only 65 minutes last season, though.

Of course this list has no way of adjusting for "level of difficulty" (the strength of the opposing lineup).

Note the conspicuous absence of the most-used starting lineup: *
Harris-Bell-Hayward-Millsap-Jefferson (-0.08 points per minute)

Subbing in Miles was not miles better, but slightly.

Farewell, Bell.

BTW, *Harris-Bell-Hayward-Favors-Jefferson was the worst in this group of 20 most used lineups.

The Jazz tried to give Favors the starting job at the beginning of this past season. Why wouldn't they try it again with the improvement Favors showed towards the end of the season? I think the job is definitely his to win. I don't think he has to be better than Millsap to get it, he just has to show he can play consistently.
