I went out there today because it was Karl Malone's Birthday Party being celebrated at the dealership. They had Free drinks, Birthday cake, Hot Dogs, and Burgers. They also had a hoop setup and people were playing ball. They had a some of those air jumping houses for kids to play in there too. Karl was there as well. People brought Cameras, Balls, etc, and Karl was signing them, and taking pictures with the Fans. It was cool. I didn't have anything for him to sign, because I just went over there after work, so I just checked out the museum and waved Hi to him because by the time I got there it was almost over anyway. I could tell he seemed kind of tired of standing from 10-6 and he was looking for a chair in the office area, so I didn't hassle him, but I was easily just a couple of feet away from him.

The museum has some cool stuff in it. All the Jerseys and Shoes from the Dream Team, signed by each member; Magic, Jordan, Pippen, Bird, Stock, etc. are all there.

He has a few signed Football players Jerseys, Dan Marino (That name drop is for //root 4 jazz). It has some Karl Malone Wrastling stuff.

My favorite of all of his memorabilia had to be the few pictures of Karl with Mohammed Ali. When you know what his disease has done to him, it's sad. But anyway, he wrote on the picture with Karl, "Don't quit your NBA job".

I guess I'm just old enough that I used to watch Ali fight with my Dad, and heard him call out to the boxers he fought "I am the Greatest! and Fly like a butterfly, sting like a bee". Ali was incredible, a truly amazing boxer. I know, wrong forum, but I really liked that.

It seems like every award Karl ever won playing basketball is in his "Museum". I don't know if you would call it a museum either, but it's the top floor of his dealership. Plaques, signed pictures, awards from the State of Louisiana to the NBA are all over the walls. Even one of his MVP trophies is there along with a signed basketball by all the players from the All-star teams, when he and Stock were the co-MVPs of the game.

I forgot to add that there are at least 10 country singers signed pictures in there too. Brooks and Dunn, of course, and some others. I was looking at sports stuff, so I kind of grazed over those things.

I think there is some hunting stuff in there too.

If you're a Karl Malone nut and are in SLC, I would say it's a must see. You're not going to see something like that, with as much Karl Malone stuff anywhere else.

Let's be clear here on the differences. Clemens was 28 when he started dating a 15 year old and was already married with two kids.

Karl Malone was, wait for it, 19 or maybe 20 (reports vary) when he hooked up with a 13 year old and was a sophomore in college.

I'm not saying what Karl Malone did was right, I'm not even saying it was excusable, I'm saying that to act like a 19 year old sophomore in college is a pedophile for hooking up with a younger girl is ridiculous. 40 year old priests who diddle altar boys are pedophiles. There is no evidence that Karl Malone used coercive tactics, nor were there any alleged by the girl in her paternity/child support suit in the late 1980s. There's no evidence that he frequently went after young girls. You don't even know if Malone knew her age when they had sex.

There are greater than six year age differences between many people's parents on this board.

To make the claim that he is a pedophile, and putting yourself in the position of factfinder on the basis of very little real information (this is nothing like how much we know about the Kobe-rape case) in a thread about an interview related to his hall of fame induction on a utah jazz fan board is trolling to the highest degree. To claim otherwise you're either being willfully ignorant (possible) or you're just trying to troll harder (also highly possible).

I hope Trout sends you a picture of a particularly noxious crap.
 
I was more disappointed in Malone allegedly being a deadbeat dad than hearing that as a freshman he knocked up a thirteen year old. And I was disappointed in that, too. Not so much that I view him as a pedophile.

So if you had a daughter you'd have no problem seeing her hook up with a college-aged man when she's in 7th/8th grade? Good gawd!

IMO, the Clemens scenario, horrible as it was, was a LITTLE better (for lack of a better phrase). At least the girl was a sophomore in HS, and a heckuva lot more grown up, than a 13 year old who had barely hit puberty. Pedophilia? No. 13 and 15-yr olds are not pre-pubescent children. But absolutely despicable (in both cases).

And this wasn't Malone's only pecadillo. So he gave Bonita Ford twins when he was in HS and apparently learned nothing from that, topping it in college by impregnating 13-yr old, Gloria Bell. Oh yeah, both women point out he didn't have the cajones to step forward and provide financial support for the children he fathered. I'm sure the ONLY reason he later cozied up to Cheryl Ford is the fact she turned out to be a star bball player. He had NO contact with Demetrius Bell.

Oh yeah, you know why he left the Lakers after one season? Because he tried to get Mrs. Bryant to have sex with him.

Yep, Karl Malone sure is one great guy. I wouldn't step foot in that dealership.

I probably didn't actually. I heard about it two years ago on tv when the kid joined the Buffalo Bills.

So hypothetically, he could have plead ignorance in a courtroom and it would have been a good defense? C'mon. This wasn't some random hook-up at a club with a girl posing to be "legal." They lived across the street from each other. I'm sure Malone was fully aware how old the girl was, give or take a year, especially since they had known each other.

Comparing a 20 year old knocking up a 13 year old to consenting adults of say the ages of 50 and 40 respectively knocking the boots is the argument you want to use? C'mon, you're better than that. I think.

Trolling of the highest degree? Doubtful. I would say preying on the young is the epitome of trolling. That said, I was exaggeratively harsh in my assessment. I do not want to classify him as some Megan's Law poster boy. So I'll be a man and retract the pedophile statement though that doesn't change the fact that he knowingly ****ed a 13 year old. Please spare me the, "Surely you have proof he knew" routine. They were direct neighbors and knew each other.

I'll finish with this. None of this changes the fact that Malone knowingly had sex with a 13 year old while he was 20 and seems to have handled both this situation and the twins case like a complete douche. Do I understand his sort of denial until the paternity test proved otherwise? Of course. Other than that, he's handled everything else like he did on the court when things mattered most. Like a complete ***** galore.
 
I'll stop here by the way since as Kicky mentioned this thread was supposed to commemorate Karl in some way, shape or form. And I really wasn't trying to troll. I just have a hard time stomaching what he did. And no, I was not sexually molested. And no, I'm not some religious fanatic.
