Should Mitt release his tax returns?

I would not be so sure that Romney did not do anything illegal.
I think you all are grossly overestimating the ability of the IRS to catch violations involving complicated businesses , charities, retirement accounts, and overseas tax havens, etc. and keep everybody in equal compliance.

So much for waiting to see them before we start making judgements...

Ahh the triple down. I get it. I mean, in an environment of unprecedented prosperity, we should cry on internet message boards how our grandparents made it through depressions and world wars and the ****ing plague, but we! this! we are ****ed! I just can't imagine how we will pull through saving all these premies and **** ya know?

Now where's my Mayan calendar gone?

Try again. Where did I say any of that?

So you haven't made up your mind yet? Because posts like these make it seem like you have already decided you are not voting for Romney.

Bingo.
However, not all rich do the same things.
I have a feeling Romney might have been especially creative, between being involved with Private Equity, a Church, and the Republican Party, all organizations associated with tax avoidance.

Bush and Clinton released 8 years of returns.

If he shows me his tax returns , and shows me that I am overestimating the stuff he got away with, and gave me some concrete plans about what he would do as President that did not suck, I would reconsider my leanings.

Also, I think that many people would be profoundly influenced by a better understanding of what he actually did as a businessman, which after all is his primary qualification as a candidate.

asked and answered,
suck it pukes.
audit rates increase because they cheat more.
that doesn't mean the IRS catches everything.
mostly they just get a minor slap on the wrist anyway, if anything.

Yes he/she has. Honestly that is fine. Good for him/her knowing where they stand.

I simply see this issue as fake outrage. Just like people screaming about some verbal slip of Obamas. Just fake all the way around.

First off, I think folks want to know how much the rich are ripping us off. How the tax code has been bent in order to protect the upper class.

Secondly, ummmmm the private sector has failed us in health care. Why do you think so many countries have moved away from "free market" "private sector" driven health care?

At what point will you folks admit that the private sector has failed in health care? When we're spending 10x more than the next nation? When instead of only 30 million, 100 million Americans go uninsured? At what point can this system be declared a failure? Where ya at repubs? Still lookin for dem WMDs in Iraq? Where ya'll at?

It's already the #1 cause for bankruptcy in this country. We're already spending far more than any other country. Far more Americans leave this country to obtain health care than those coming here. We're seeing a decline in health and life expectancy. While millions go uninsured.

If those aren't symptoms of a failing health care system, then please, enlighten me as to what are.

he shoots, he scores!

Or maybe it's because the IRS knows they can get more money if they catch a rich person cheating the system rather than it being a fact that more rich people cheat the system than less rich people. Also, the IRS is more likely to be able to collect the fines imposed on richer folks who are convicted of tax fraud: https://www.irs.gov/compliance/enforcement/article/0,,id=106790,00.html

No, the IRS doesn't catch everything. But you seem to think that you know more about tax than the IRS becasue if you saw Mitt Romney's tax return you would know what he "got away with".

nightmare, Yes, you get more money out of someone catching someone cheating the government out of 10 million dollars than 10 dollars , and if the IRS gets a 50% return , the rich guy is still up 5 million. The rich guy has smart lawyers and accountants and investment managers helping him out. The poor guy is sacred and alone, and is probably going to pay whatever the IRS asks for without even arguing, including penalties. Your recovery rates are comparing apples and oranges. Sorry you can't get blood out of a stone if the poor guy is broke and a lawyer would cost more than the fine.

Do I hear a Republican defending the competence and efficiency of a government agency?
Awesome how you people twist around depending on the situation. It's like a Jordan up and under!

The only people demanding to see Romney's tax returns are those that want to ensure that he never gets elected. northeast would never vote for Romney and if he says otherwise, he's lying.
