Should Mitt release his tax returns?

I'm confused why people feel that the president should identify with and understand the average American citizen? Why is this important? Shouldn't it be more important that he knows how to fix the economy? Grow the middle class? Deal with foreign powers? I want the ****ing smartest man possible sitting behind the Resolute desk. Not the guy that I can sit down and have a beer and discuss college football with. If that's what you're looking for and keep electing we're screwed for sure.

It doesn't really matter what the president knows how to do if he doesn't want to do it anyway.

If a guy doesn't understand your problems, how can he possibly care about fixing them?

Besides, how do we know Romney knows how to fix anything with the economy? When he was governor his state economy was bad. And he refuses to release his tax returns so we don't really know what he did in business.

Because people are jealous bitches and don't want someone so wealthy to be rewarded further.

I've found that many Romneyites tend to do this instead of addressing the actual issues. Instead of responding to peoples' legit concerns, they merely try and ignore them.

Something like releasing his tax returns could have been done within a few hours and it might have been forgotten by now. Instead, it has now gotten everyone's attention and has the potential to leave a sweet dent into the Mitty Party Bus.

Now when he finally releases them (PS, why is Mitt trying to act like a hardass? We all know you're going to release them eventually. You've never stood up for anything in your life (other than flip flopping). We all know you crack faster under pressure than Tracy McGrady. It's only a matter of time) they're going to be even more scrutinized than had he just released them when they were first requested.

I think Mitty is going to look even further disconnected from 99 % once they're released. People are going to be pissed to see how few taxes he actually paid. The cat is out of the bag. Americans know how corrupt our tax structure has become. How it greatly favors the minority (rich and privileged) folks while passes on the brunt of the cost onto the middle-class. Hopefully we do something about it. We can start by letting the Bush handouts/entitlements errr tax cuts for the rich expire.

Yes. Obama did. Why can't Mitt?

What a ****ty answer. Anyone else?

Isn't every president an extremely wealthy person who is being rewarded further?

LOL Holy cow people, I was being facetious!

"Disallowed loss or credit carried to next year...

At least twice, your quote referred to "such activity", which reads to me as being activity of the same type (such as buying another horse). That seems to correspond with what franklin said.

Is that why you voted for Gore in 2000?

You sound like an idiot when you talk like this Biff.

He already released his taxes for 2010 and estimated taxes for 2011.
If you have an issue with the Tax code, fine... but stop acting like an idiot and making it sound like Romney is cheating on his taxes because he has money.
Take a look at his 2010 taxes and point out where he broke the law and Deloitte and Touche let him please.

Honestly it's people that act like you are now that makes me like Romney more than the little bit I did before, just to spite the stupidity that flows from your lips.

If you hate people that are rich, fine. If you hate the tax code, fine.
Why be angry Mitt paid 4.6 Million in taxes and got a 1.6 Million return on 21.6 Million AGI.
That is a 13.9% tax rate when the bulk of the earnings were Capital Gains (15%).
His taxable income was 17 Million after deductions, for an tax rate of 17.6%.

Thrillseeker, if you want to be angry with somebody, be angry with whatever law made it so capital gains tax was only 15%.

P.S. in my opinion you are the one that looks disconnected because you don't understand taxes. What about the fact that the tax code truly favors those with low incomes because they end up not paying taxes at all and receive money back even after not paying anything in taxes? Do you hate that too?

I haven't read much on this thread and I'm not sure how many directions its morphed in to; but being Romney's platform is highlighted by the assertion that the rich in this country are over-taxed, then considering that he's rich, shouldn't the amount he's actually paid in taxes be subject to examination? Especially during his chief earning years before he entered public service?

And if he has been hiding his money in Swiss Bank Accounts and off-shore accounts, AND if he did in fact apply for Tax Amnesty for the income he's attempted to hide from the government (as has been alleged) -shouldn't that be something the public should know about a person who is running for President?

I remember Obama talking about how college football needed a playoff (on his own, was asked what he thought he could improve about sports and he went right into college football playoff) and how he would try to make that happen during his first campaign. I remember him going to some school and talking with kids on their basketball court, and hitting a 3 pointer on his first try not too long ago. I remember him filling out NCAA brackets and explaining why he picked who he picked a few months ago (and getting a stare down from one of the players on a team he picked would lose, after said player made a big play in a game Obama was attending). I remember him giving all kinds of football analysis and super bowl picks, several times. I remember him holding a "beer conference" to settle some controversy. I remember him going on and on about the middle class, even sticking his neck on the line to save the auto industry and all the blue collar jobs that come with it. I remember him campaigning on raising taxes on companies that outsource jobs, and lowering taxes on companies that keep jobs in the USA. I remember him fighting to keep the student loan rates low and payroll tax low. I remember him cutting out the middle man so federal financial aid (for students) is no longer handled by profit seeking banks. I remember him sending an infrastructure bill to congress that would have created thousands of blue collar jobs repairing our nation's roads and bridges. I remember him trying to get a high speed rail system built that would link our cities with high speed rail, making it easier for average people to travel and even commute, creating thousands of jobs in the process.

I can't really think of any instance where Obama lead me to believe he didn't understand the average American. I know the Romney camp would love for everyone to believe that Obama was just as out of touch as Romney, but I don't think it's even remotely true.

Vladimir Putin rides horses with his shirt off on hunting excursions.

That's an excellent way to frame it.

I'm still more worried about the guy who has surrounded himself with terrorists & commies his entire life, appoints tax cheats and anti-Americans to high level positions across the board, and shamelessly campaigns endlessly in his special form of narcissism. Mitt, on the other hand, seems like a pretty genuine dude to me with good intentions.

I didn't even bother to read your entire post.

But I think I got the point of it.

Here's the thing. Mitt's whole campaign hinges on his claim that the rich are "job creators" and need to have their taxes decreased or else this country's economy will never recover. If he truly believes this, then he shouldn't have any hesitation in showing how "overtaxed" he and his ilk are in order to prove that we need to lower taxes further.

Instead, he has run away from it.

That says a lot.
