What's new

Should Mitt release his tax returns?

some people have other crap in their life they have to attend to, besides counting their money, having their spouse take care off all the errands, typing on jazzfanz 24/7, and spending the next few months talking and planning about how everyone should vote for the candidate who best benefits rich people

Bahahahaha

Screw Romney, northeast for president!

Thanks for the sincere answer. Yes, I knew that .. but what I mean is, it's not THAT damn difficult to get an I.D. There should be ample time to get it done, yes. But to suggest that "I don't want to .. or can't" is unacceptable as far as I'm concerned. I think voting/electing a national leader should be taken seriously and if someone isn't willing to do a little work to ensure voting integrity, then they should just accept whom others, who are willing, end up electing.

There are extreme circumstances, I'm sure, and those should be handled with sensitivity, but the lazy entitled can bite me.

What are you going on about? Take about whining! I get what you are saying, but you are blissfully ignoring why this is being done. This is in no way being done right now to protect the beloved sanctity of voting.
This is being done to try, and squeeze out democratic voters, and win this must have state. Because it's being done on that reason it's disgusting.

Your long winded rant does have merit, but that is a different issue altogether. We as a society need to care more about voting, and need to stop being so damn uninvolved.
Let's admit though why this is being done now, and be honest about it. Don't sidetrack it with, "oh if they really give a damn they'd really get off their lazy butts". Come on PKM.

U must have ignored every post where I said it may not be fair to fix it for THiS election, do it for the next and give everyone 5+ years to be ready? That's okay, I'm not mad.

Looks like 122 million people voted in 2008, out of a population of 300 million.
Maybe we can get the ratio under one third.

Of course, participation is already lower for the other votes, besides the presidential election.

I know , I am being intellectually dishonest. Some people are under 18, but not 178 million.

What exactly are you trying to say?

That the roughly 100 million people that chose not vote were oppressed by the right?

Or think of it this way..

What if we begin to hold Americans more responsible for themselves? What if by giving someone 5+ years to get an I.D. (good grief), and they actually do it, those same people begin a path of being 'doers' and fix other areas of their lives? I am not being a racist, hater of the poor, or anything like that .. but I am saying there should be certain minimal levels of participation in life in order to receive some of this nation's benefits.

I am about to have 6 kids. What if 5 of them agree to do chores and receive Friday ice cream and pizza day, but one of them doesn't get out of bed, plays video games all day, only to emerge on Friday? Terrible analogy, I admit, but I am sick of anyone who does nothing to better their life but ride the coattails of those that lobby equality.

Give folks 5 years to get their I.D. and if next election rolls around and they haven't done it .. stfu.

I would rather look for changes that get more people voting , not less.

So you will ignore a problem? Also no one has been talking about ways to improve voting. Personally I think it is an embarrasement that so few people actually vote. I honestly think part of the problem is that is is set up thru the electoral college the way it is.

For example, someone voting for Obama in the state of Utah. What's the point? That is as meaningful as someone voting for Romney in Washington DC.

Make it based on popular vote. That way every vote actually carries the same weight. Ensure to integrity of that process by ensuring that the proper people (the US citizen matching the name on the vote cast) vote by requiring a photo ID. It does not have to be immediate as PKM brought up.

I honestly believe that the hard left does not want Americans to be responsible for themselves. They want the government to be.

Me too, unless that means empowering the lazy, then no.

The idea that someone is either too lazy or too stupid to get an I.D. and is being given a pass on life to vote whomever into office they believe will allow them to continue being lazy and be paid for it (truth hurts, huh?) is pitiful on our part.

You need to get it out of your head that only lazy or stupid people don't have an id. I haven't responded to it yet because it's so ridiculous, but you continue to make this bogus claim.

I understand that YOU think it's normal and have no problem carrying around a government id (and so do I) but surely you must understand that not everyone lives life the way you do.

I have ackowledged that in other posts. No, I don't need to get it out of my head. The reason? Because I think it's a valid concern regarding voting integrity, something all Americans should take some measure of pride in. I get that some people choose not to have an ID. My suggestion is to give those people more than adequate time to get one if they want to vote. Fast forward 5 years ... still haven't gotten one? Tough.

I'm not referring to those without an I.D. right now .. but rather those that had years to get one but didn't.

YOU need to get it out of your head that millions cannot get a governemt ID. I'd say more do not have one due to not having a need for one than an inability to have one. If they had a need the vast majority would get one. For example people need ID if they get a government benefit such as Unemployment Compensation or Social Security. Alot of them do not have cars so they do not have a drivers license. So what do they have? A passport, state ID, medicaid card or other acceptable form of ID depending on the rules of the agency they are dealing with.

Now granted there are always exceptions (such as you example of an elderly individual with no ID and no BC to get one) but allwoances and exceptions sold be made to get that person an ID. Have these laws take effect in 2016 and get people ready to vote.

stupid lazy people should get more votes than conniving psychopaths

You are too funny. How is asking for voting integrity, and giving everyone an insane amount of time to get an ID, being a conniving psychopath?

Wait .. you don't have an ID, do you?

They do but under a different handle.

So you will ignore a problem?

Potential problem. It's not a problem, because the number of people showing up to the polls to vote as someone else is miniscule.

I ignore thousands of potential problems every day. Why does this one need to be legislated?
