What's new

Should Mitt release his tax returns?

no, each state has its own state government.
but the US congress should be made up of people thinking about what is right for the country as whole.

How can you say that? Gore was %^&$#@ brilliant. He invented the internet and championed the carbon credit scheme. Had he been elected, we'd certainly be free from oil right now and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq would have been completely unnecessary.

""Gore has described the lifestyle he and his wife Tipper live as “carbon neutral,” meaning he tries to offset any energy usage, including plane flights and car trips, by “purchasing verifiable reductions in CO2 elsewhere.”
But it turns out he pays for his extra-large carbon footprint through Generation Investment Management, a London-based company with offices in Washington, D.C., for which he serves as chairman. The company was established to take financial advantage of new technologies and solutions related to combating “global warming,”"

Is that not the absolute definition of brilliance? You push for mandatory enforcement of a new scheme, then set yourself up as the chairman of one of the primary companies that will benefit by said scheme. Then you make payments to that company, but draw a salary well in excess of anything you've paid out. Say what you want about ALGORE, but he's a brilliant man. In fact, I think it just might be Al's luminance that's behind global warming.

Your sarcasm is apparent, but you should be serious about most of this. Of coufrse, Gore never claimed to have invented the internet, Gore would have invaded Afghanistan, and he never claimed he could make the US free from oil.

I think if Gore had been elected, we would not have invaded Iraq.

What I find most curious is thaqt you are criticizing Gore for starting a company that acts upon what Gore says he believes in, and then making money from that. Isn't that what America is all about?

You are painting with way to broad of a brush. The house should be comrpised of people representing their districts/areas. The Senate should perhaps be more "greater good" oriented.

Having a all government with no true connection to many parts of the country (what would eventually happen) would ignore and trmaple the interests/rights of that area quickly.

If this is your true stance and not your attempt to troll on this handle then I am glad that you are NOT in charge.

I can't even imagine what a disaster Gore would have been.

Saying he would have done some things well is probably true, but one could also say David Duke would have balanced the budget .. but through what means?

LOL I love you Salty. I am going to start posting like you

Dems have been fighting immigration control and voter ID for decades. They need those votes to secure their positions of power.

Hey you're the one who incorrectly stated that you already have to go through a background check to own a gun. I merely set the record straight that no, you don't need a background check in a lot of cases, and this has been a partisan issue for quite some time now.

You mean like voter ID?

You set the record as how you want it to appear.

You lost me. What was your point?

You were responding to me saying republicans would be going ape **** if dems started pushing these type of gun control laws through. The point is, dems are NOT pushing these type of gun control laws through because every time they try, republicans go ape ****.

Voter id is different though, because even though dems went ape **** over it, it still passed.

no, working for the greater good does not mean that most individual areas would be worse off.
There needs to be a balance, but right now the system does not work for the general welfare well.
Congressmen are too interested in selfish pork and special interests, not enough in integrity and overall good.

Oh, you mean like Obama Care.

I agree with this, but I believe it's a different issue/problem than local vs. national.

Agreed. Washington by what it has becoem is a corrupting force. This has to do with lobbyists and foreign governments being allowed to persuade individual members of the government.

Remove lobbyists and allow interest groups (regardless of origination) to address congress at large.

what's the dif between a lobbyist and an interest group ?

Probably nothing. My point being is that they cannot go in and deal with individual congresmen/women or Senators privately. Remove that pressure. The money and power behind it.

I am all for allowing them to have their voices heard. Just make it on a level with the American general public.

what's the dif between a lobbyist and an interest group ?

Well, in reality, not much. Lobbyists are typically employees/paid by the group they represent, whereas Special Interest Groups are supposed to be more dedicated to an ideal (think abortion issue) .. but in practice they're largely similar as the 'leaders' are often compensated in some fashion or another .. though not always.

One of my business associates is a 3rd generation CEO of the largest hog packaging company in the country .. it's ALL about money, duh, and they will always get to the political leaders, short of making it a felony or something .. and even then, it will still happen.

Oh, you mean like Obama Care.
Obama care was a republican plan. Dems went ape **** over it because they wanted a single payer system. The vast majority of Americans agreed that we needed health care reform. But when it came down to it, the dems caved and went with the republican plan. And when that happened, the republicans tried to rewrite history and act like it was a democrat/socialist/whatever plan and tried to wash their hands of it.

Funny how obama care is polling higher and higher the more people learn about it though.

I can't even imagine what a disaster Gore would have been.

As opposed to a totally unnecessary and costly war in Iraq, an unnecessary and costly war in Afghanistan, and overseeing perhaps the worst economic recessions since the Depression?

To the contrary, it is hard to imagine that Gore could have been any worse than W Bush.
