Jazz showdown: Deron vs. Stockton

Who's better? Deron Williams or John Stockton? Yes, I'm being serious. This caused quite the fervor in my office today. Lots of mixed opinions actually. Deron in his prime or John in his prime. Who'd win 1 on 1? Who would u want on your team? Who'd win in a fist fight? Who's cooler? But the bottom line is who's the better player. List your reasons why!

Your office sounds much more fun than mine.

I'm not sure Deron has hit his prime yet, so it may be too early to say. I would have to pick John as the one I would want leading my team. However, I'm not sure he would beat Deron in a 1-on-1 game.

Dwill would win in a 1v1 I suspect, but do you think Stock would let him do it pain free? lol

In their prime, as of now, I have to take Stockton. If I ever have to change my mind, I will be happy as hell cuz DWill will be unreal at that point.

Deron is fighting for the title of best point guard presently playing; Stockton is in the best ever conversation.

Not close.

The fact that you have to even ask totally beats the **** out of John Stockton with the disrespect stick and then whoopy cushion punches him in the throat.

I'd take John Stockton on my team, over Deron Williams. I think John was a better play maker/passer as well a better defensive player. Although I think Deron Williams is a bigger offensive threat than John Stockton was.

I love Dwill's game. He's powerful, great shot, great vision, and he's the teams leader. No way I would take him over Stockton. The dude Averaged 15 assist/game in 1990 i believe. Also, if I needed one Jazz man to make a last shot, Stockton is my guy every time. In my eye's this really isn't close.

This is like asking a parent, "Which one of your children do you love the most?"
Impossible to answer...

This is a very hard question to answer, because they are different types of players. Deron is a better go to guy, while stockton is probably a better leader and passer.

Stockton's a Hall of Famer, one of the 50-Greatest Players of all-time and arguably the best pure PG ever. This shouldn't be a debate.

If ya wanted to take longevity and overall career accomplishments outta the debate, I guess you could make a case for Deron accomplishing more (perennial top 2-3 in assists, etc.) in his first 5 years as a pro than Stockton did in his. The future remains to be seen. Would you prefer Stockton at age 35 to Deron at age 35? Can't really say, eh?

I'm actually completing a Stockton mix right now and it's been a great experience watching "Little John" play in these retro jazz games. To me Stock was the ultimate PG.

Can't wait to see it. Loved Stock, Watched almost his whole carrier. Actually got a little teary eyed when he retired and they had his jersey retired at the Delta Center (now ESA)

As for the OP question. Right now Stockton with out much debate. We'll see in 10 years if that changes.
