Jazzfanz ALL-TIME Fantasy Draft

I looked hard at Willis Reed for my PF, but at 6'9" and 235 lbs, I didn't think he was big enough to match up against David Robinson and Tim Duncan. Would take him over Rodman though.

Also the Reed vs. Wilt thing was in 1970 when Wilt was 35 years old.

Time to overdue an already nasty front line.

He wasn't built like a brick **** house because God ran out of straw, so He made him out of granite instead. The first ever quadruple double in NBA history, it's truly shameful he played before blocked shots showed up in the stat column. This man stood at 6'11" without shoes and was strong as an ox, had great hands, ran the floor like Karl Malone, had a complete offensive arsenal including outside shooting, hook, & turn around baseline fadeaways. Nate Thurmond did all the intangibles too. He was an excellent passing center & the best screen setter of his era. They said when Thurmond set a screen not even a forklift could get through it.

Kareem Abdul Jabar said Thurmond was the toughest guy he ever faced.

The only downside to my pick is he would make LeBron James feel good about his receding hairline.

Naismith Hall of Famer
One of NBA's 50 greatest players
#45 on Bill Simmons Hall of Fame Pyramid
#34 on Slam Online's list
7× NBA All-Star (1965–1968, 1970, 1973–1974)
2× NBA All-Defensive First Team, (Like Havlicek, they didn't have a list for his first six seasons). A member of the very first along with Bill Russell.
3× NBA All-Defensive Second Team (1972–1974)
2nd to Chamberlain in the 1967 MVP balloting.

There's a real nebulousness to players that played earlier than the 80's IMO. But the Reed pick was really nice.

I know I'm up, I'm just struggling to follow through with my plan. There are some "great" offensive players left on the board, but the ones I'm looking at cannot get the stink of loser power-washed off of them.

My question with these guys is whether they were fast enough to keep up with today's players. That was actually my question mark on Kareem (not that he was available) though he was getting older by the time I saw him on tv. It doesn't help much that some of these highlight reels are in slow motion.

Everyone said that Karl Malone revolutionized the Power Forward spot because no one had been that big and fast before, but then there were more guys like Kemp, Webber, Duncan, KG, Amare who were just as big and fast. Some guys are timeless players. It's just hard to figure out which ones there are.

Also, not many of these older players play above the rim. You don't see old school guards and wings flying and dunking the ball. When Dr. J came into the league, everyone was in awe because they'd never seen a guy jump like that. Then came Nique and Jordan, and now every athletic guard dunks the ball.

So it becomes a question of what would happen if guys like Bob Cousy and Pistol Pete had to guard guys like Russel Westbrook or Derrick Rose. Even Steve Nash is a remarkable athlete with a great motor, and he's known as not being able to guard anybody.

**** it.

Shawn Marion

On my phone, I guess I'll have to sexy this up later.

Don't forget how good this guy was. One of the most versatile players you'll find, was a shockingly good shooter, could guard 5 positions (and at least two of them EXTREMELY well), board, and score A LOT. Also a firebrand.

I'm also on my phone. So no pictures or bio this time.

I'll take Deron Williams.

I do think dominant rebounding translates. Moses Malone could probably still lead the league in rebounds. In my case I'm not expecting Wilt to do much more than block a few shots, rebound and outlet. If Wilt gets into the picture he can go to the the block and call for the ball. I think that's how teams used Shaq. If there isn't an early offense opportunity, then Shaq rolls in and gets fed in the post.
