What's new

NFL Thread 12-13

I'll post a link to the rules of the league for you later. It's pretty crazy. I would've asked people here if they wanted in, but nobody ever wants to join money leagues here. It was a $50 buy in, auction was online.

Here is my squad and the dollar amounts I got them for. $400 budget. It's a 16 team league which makes QB and TE more important than normal. Its also a 6 point per passing TD league (instead of 4) I would've paid about $150 if I had to for Rodgers. He should dominate the league. I'll post the rules of the dynasty format if people want me to. Its pretty crazy.

3 Aaron Rodgers, GB QB $133
7 Jimmy Graham, NO TE $101
90 Steve Smith, Car WR $37
92 Packers Coach HC $12
119 Tim Tebow, NYJ QB $3
124 Josh Cribbs, Cle WR $3
131 DeAngelo Williams, Car RB $18
143 Darrius Heyward-Bey, Oak WR $8
147 Isaac Redman, Pit RB $6
168 Bernard Scott, Cin RB $4
173 Santonio Holmes, NYJ WR $5
178 Shane Vereen, NE RB $6
179 Von Miller, Den LB $5
191 Martellus Bennett, NYG TE $5
194 Carson Palmer, Oak QB $3
195 Jared Allen, Min DE $5
196 Greg Little, Cle WR $3
203 Ryan Tannehill, Mia QB $2
208 Felix Jones, Dal RB $3
220 Brandon Jacobs, SF RB $1
223 Brandon Weeden, Cle QB $3
244 Dustin Keller, NYJ TE $2
252 Cardinals D/ST D/ST $3
284 Eddie Royal, SD WR $2
300 Shayne Graham, Hou K $1

I'll keep you posted for sure. I'm projected to score the most points in the league week 1, so we'll see.

Nice picks Ugly. You were smart to go tight end right after Rodgers. Looks like you know what you are doing.

I've never played in a pay league before though. I'm dying to. You should post a link of where you are doing this. I would have done it with you.

So how does it work? 50$ buy in? But you are playing with a couple hundred dollars? What was your total cost?

More detail would be awesome if you don't mind.

Pick 'em picks week 1: Just for fun, there's a huge number of people that do this in honor of a Browns fan that has passed. 1 point per correct pick, most points over the season wins. Here's mine for this week. Feel free to bash, agree, ignore or do your own.

Giants at home over 'Boys
Browns at home over Eagles
Bills away over Jets
Pats away over Titans
Atlanta away over Cheifs
Bears at home over Colts
Lions at home over Rams
Jags away over Vikings
Saints at home over Skins
Texans at home over Dolphins
Panthers away over Bucs
Seahawks away over Cards
49ers away over Packers
Broncos at home over Steelers
Ravens at home over Bengals
Raiders at home over Chargers

Just to add, I try not to look at any spreads, try to keep home wins a little above away ones and keep what I see as upsets down to 3 or 4. Week 1 is the toughest one to predict IMO.

I just benched Decker in favor of Garcon this week. Mostly because Decker is facing the Steelers while Garcon is only facing the Saints. I'm thinking Decker might have a rough go against that Steeler defense. While Garcon should put up some nice numbers whether the Skins win, lose, or get blown out.

Thoughts?

Here is the rules for the league. It's a $50 buy in every year the $400 is the league budget and not real money. Sorry if the formatting is a little weird from the copy/paste.

$50 ESPN HTH LEAGUE “Dynamic league please read all content”

NFL coaches get fired and Fantasy owners can get fired as well.
This is a big boy league. If any owner calls you out for inactivity, not setting lineups, collusion, blatantly running your team into the ground, or causing harm to the league through bad sportsmanship the league manager will check in with you and try to alert you that owners have some concerns. Once that has taken place we all hope you will move in the right direction. If you continue to cause concern for owners then a poll will be published and if 50% of the owners vote you out then you will be fired from running your NFL DYNATSY TEAM (with cause, not as a witch hunt because you are a superior team! ☺)

All money will be collected through league safe and distributed through league safe.

Each team name must reference a NFL Team name and each team picture must represent your NFL team.
Example: DABears would clearly indicate I own the Bears. My picture could be a Chicago Bears helmet etc.

There will be a google documents page that has all the information on it for the league. Each team will have a personalized page that you can view to see your keepers and other teams’ keepers. It will be personalized for each NFL owner. This will be the official site for Keepers, contracts, and salaries, also your franchise budge and the bank budgett. You still must select keepers on ESPN website.

The draft each year will be held in late August or Early Sept. This year we are looking at Sunday, Sept 2 at 5PM (EST). There is a complete 2013 timeline at the end of the rules.

Two important terms when reading rules. Fantasy budget which will always be in blue and real cash franchise budget which will always be highlighted in green. Definition of fantasy budget: Not real. Definition of real cash franchise budget: Real money that you can win to build your franchise worth.

All transactions are handled through the ESPN website.

We will use FFTOOLBOX.COM for all auction value projections and Rankings of players each year.

$400 fantasy budget for the auction draft (anything left over will be added to the waiver wire budget).

25 player roster (12 Starters and 13 Bench players)

16 team league

Check Espn website for settings, Scoring, etc

Starters:
1 QB
2 RB
2 WR
1 TE
1 Flex (RB, WR, TE)
2 Def Players
1 Defense/Special Teams/ Max2
1 Kicker
1 Coach/ Max 2 This will be the coach of your NFL Team. Your head coach will be placed on your team before the draft. You can draft a 2nd coach if you choose. This will reward you greatly when it comes to signing players. If you sign a 2nd coach you will get the benefit for both teams you own when it comes to loyalty players.

“Definition of cap”
Each team gets $400 Fantasy budget to draft 25 players. In this league you can sign up to 10 players. The term cap means you must have $1 available for each roster spot that needs to be filled going into the draft after year 1.
So the max cap range would be 10 players signed max cap is $385
1 player signed max cap is $376
Both of these examples I can legally draft players to fill remaining roster spots for $1 each.

BEWARE: This is a BIG BOY LEAGUE there are no position limits on players. So someone could draft 10 RBs if they want… of course, they will be shorthanded on backups elsewhere. You must draft with this in mind. There are only 32 teams so if a team drafts 3 Qb’s it’s possible you will not have a QB to start. You can’t blame anyone but yourself since we all drafted with the same opportunities. Plan strategically, draft wisely, own up to your decisions, and work through adversity. This is all part of a complex fantasy football league. No whiners, or quitters, should take on the role of running a fantasy football team.

You can put 10 of your players under contract: 1 year, 2 year, or 3 year contract. All other players will be “unrestricted free agents” at the end of the year and will be available in the next draft.

You have 3 days or 72 hours to declare any contract signings after: the initial draft, waiver wire pick-ups, the rookie draft, or purchasing a player from the Franchise owner auction. If you try to sign a guy at the end of the year it’s too late.

At the end of a contract you can extend a contract for a player with a price increase based on their projected value (again for 1, 2, or 3 years).

All salary increases will happen when their contract is up. Exception for anyone rated as #1 for their position during the preseason (see fftoolbox site for ranking on July 27). If your player is Ranked #1 at QB,RB,WR, or TE then that player will get a $20 salary increase unless he is currently one of the top three paid players at their position in the league. This will happen each year at each of four main offensive positions (QB, RB, WR, and TE).

“Renewing Expired Contracts”

At the beginning of each year if your player has a contract that has expired the following increases will occur.

#1 Rated player at the position = $20 increase
2-10 Rated player at the position = $15 increase
11-20 Rater player at the position = $10 increase
Everyone else = $5 increase

Special provision: If the player plays for your NFL team(s) (as determined by your coach(es), then you only need to pay $5 to extend their contract (loyalty bonus) regardless of where they are ranked. In order to get the loyalty bonus for your 2nd team you must sign that coach to a contract. The first coach is your head coach and does not need to be signed.

Everyone is also given $100 for the waiver wire each year in addition to the money left over from the draft (i.e. if someone uses $350 in the draft they would have $150 for the waiver wire; $100 regular amount plus $50 leftover from the draft). The waiver wire money can be used to pick up free agents during the season. If you did not sign 10 players to a contract you are able to sign a free agent to a one year contract (only one year). You will have the opportunity to extend their contract using the rules above. (i.e. if someone picked up Demarco Murray last year for $20 they could keep him for $25 or more depending on where he is projected) going into next years draft.

There are no financial penalties for adding/dropping non contracted players.

At the end of the year you will budget your signed players. If #1 Ranking occurs or if you have to renew contracts and this forces you to go over the Cap you will have to drop a player(s) or use the “Hold out provision”

“Hold-Out Provision”

Hold-out provision can be used for #1 ranked player, extending a contract player who forces you to go over the cap, or to sign a rookie player who would force you to go over cap during the rookie draft or when purchasing a rookie during the real cash auction.

You can only declare 1 holdout player per year.

Declare the player who has decided to hold out. Bench the hold out player for the 1st game of the year and pay him his increase out of waiver wire money, this will be deducted by the league manager. If your player is declared a hold out and plays week 1 it will result in automatic loss. Example: I signed Adrian Peterson for $100 and now he ranks #1 and is not in the top 3 paid players at his position he now would receive $120 a year because of the #1 Ranking. This extra $20 would force me to be over the cap so Adrian declares to hold out for game 1. I still start the season paying his $100 contract, however I pay his $20 bonus out of my waiver wire money. He is officially on my roster at $120 for the following year. We are now good until the draft at the beginning of next year.

“Dropable-events”

You can drop any player at any time, however, if a player is under contract, then half of his contracted salary will be credited back to you for year’s draft the other half will be added to your head coach’s salary. The head coach will start the season on your team for $0. However, if you drop a player under this provision your head coach will take on the dropped player’s salary cut in half (rounded up). For example if someone has Adrian Peterson signed to a three year contract for $60 and then drops him during the second season, then $30 will be “assigned” to the head coach and $30 would be given back to the team’s owner for use. The $30 penalty will remain on the head coach until the end of the third year (when Adrian Peterson’s contract would have expired). The head coach will not be counted as a keeper but will impact your budget because he will start the season with $30 in the example above. There is no limit to dropping contracted players, however your head coach will continue to take on each players salary penalty.
A player holds out for more money in our league, not the actual NFL league (see hold-out provision above). If you don’t want to pay the increase because he is the number one player, you can drop him with no penalty.
A contracted player who comes to the end of his contract can be dropped at the end of the year because his contract is up.
Rodger Goodell Rule “Bad Publicity” A player is suspended for 4 or more consecutive games
If a player is out for medical reasons either:
A. He is placed on injured reserve and is out for the year (you can drop him immediately)
B. He is injured and actually misses (Out) for 4 consecutive games (bye weeks do not count)
A player holds out for 4 or more consecutive games (i.e. Vincent Jackson in 2011)

“Trades”

Trades can take place up until the trade deadline (between week 9 and 10 of the season).
It takes 6 vetoes from the league for a trade to be declined. Please keep in mind this is a dynasty league and trades may not seem “fair” to everyone. The added elements of salary and contract length makes trades much more complex. What seems like a lopsided trade to you could be a fair trade considering the added elements of contract length, contract space (i.e. a team wants to free up a spot), salary, and other unknown opportunities.

If you trade a contracted player, the other owner must take on his salary and contract.
You cannot trade for a player under contract if you do not have any available contracts left unless you are trading a contracted player. No more than 10 contracts are allowed.
No contract trade can cause the other team to go over the cap. This would result in veto from the league Manager. Example I have 9 players and I have spent $384 I could only get a contracted player whos’s salary was $1. If the trade involved a player who was signed and valued at $2 then this trade would put me over the cap.
No player can be traded from and then traded back to the original team in the same year.

1 Round Rookie Draft after year 1

We will have a 1 round rookie draft based on previous year standings. The team finishing last would pick first and the League champion would pick last.(16,15,14etc.)
3 Options after the rookie draft, add rookie to your roster, sign your rookie to a contract if you have any available, designate your rookie for Real cash Auction. The Real Cash Auction is explained in detail below.
Please note that all rookies added or signed you only have to pay half of their projected salary. This year if you were to sign Trent Richardson you would get to add or sign him for $15 because he was projected at $30

Yearly winnings paid through league safe
$300 Dynasty Bowl winner
$100 Second place
$50 3rd Place
$50 x 4 for division winners totaling $200
$10 weekly prize x 15 weeks totaling $150 will go into franchise budget for weekly $10 prizes. This will remain in the game explanation below.
Last place team based on rankings will get a new name from the league
If you want to transfer winnings to franchise budget, you must notify me.

“Franchise worth” PLEASE READ VERY UNIUQUE
Everything explained in this section deals with REAL $CASH and will separate this league form all other leagues.
Out of the prize pool there will be $150 real dollars set aside for weekly $Cash Prizes of $10

Before the season there will be a set schedule of weekly contests.
Example week 1 highest team point total wins $10 This money would go into the owners franchise budget and in week 1 he would be the only owner with real cash.
Week 2 might be Qb who threw for the most yards for $10 Now it’s possible 1 owner could own $20 in their franchise budget or two owners could each own $10 in their franchise budget.
No owner may withdraw money from this budget until after 3 years. This is to promote longevity. After 3 years if you decide to retire and notify the league before the season ends you will receive all money from these winnings through league safe. You may decide to continue playing and you will be able to withdraw any dollar amount, or you may decide to keep money in your franchise in order to increase your franchise worth.
If a player leaves before the 3 years and they have over $50 they will receive anything over the $50 and the $50 would go to the new owner. Once again this is because this league needs committed owners and it will be hard to replace owners with new owners because of the dynamics of the league.
Once you receive real cash into your budget there are several ways you can try to build your franchise in worth.

1st Talk is cheap rule: this means you may wager $10 with another opponent. This must be posted on the message board and both owners must agree on the message board before the first game of the week starts. Both owners must have cash in their accounts for the bet to take place. Also no bet may exceed $10. The loser would have $10 deducted from their account and it would be added to the winners account.

2nd Stadium Upgrades: You may spend $10 to earn 1 point home field advantage. The max is $50 upgrade for 5 point home field advantage. This can be done at anytime and will take effect immediately. So basically home field advantage can rank from 0-5. What this means is every home game during the year or during the playoffs if you’re the home team you would start the game off with 0-5 points before the game starts. Points remain year to year. Each team will have 6 home games a year for the regular season. Home field advantage will carry through playoffs based off rankings. The Dynasty Bowl will not have any home field advantage.

3rd You can pay for 1-4 practice squad roster spots. Each spot costs $10, the max would be $40 for 4 spots. You have 72 hours or 3 days to notify the league that you are placing a player on the practice squad if you have a spot available. SO no one could do this week one, because no team has a practice squad spot available. The benefit is that this player is treated like a keeper for as long as you want and will be added to your roster each year pre-draft for $0. Once a practice squad player starts a game he will be removed from the practice squad and will be treated like any other player. You have 3 days or 72 hours to sign this player from the start of his first game. The players signing price will be the initial draft price of when you first drafted the player, received in trade, or picked up off waivers. Example: I picked up Trent Richards for $15 and then placed him onto my practice squad. He stayed there for 2 years costing me nothing. Year 3 I play him and decide to sign him. His signing price would be $15

4th You may Bid on players assigned to the real cash auction. When the auction starts owners will have 48 hours to bid on players that were assigned to the auction. The range of players could be 0-16 depending on how many rookies were assigned to the auction. You can only bid if you have real cash in your franchise budget. The owner who wins the bid will have their funds deducted from their franchise and it will be added to the franchise who sent the rookie to the auction. Any rookie in the auction who isn’t bid on returns to the free agent draft pool not the owner who put him up for auction. If you lose the bid you do not lose any money it stays in your franchise fund.

5th you can influence trades by using real cash this must be posted on message board if you are making a trade and adding cash bonus with the trade so all players know there is more involved in the trade besides the players being traded. Once again this would transfer if the trade goes through to the owners franchise budget.
Lastly if you have real cash in your budget you may pay off your coaches increased salary $1 for $1. Example My Head coach has increased in salary and is up to $40 that will effect my cap. I can spend $10 real cash to bring his salary down to $30 I could spend $40 to bring his salary down to $0

All Franchise money that is spent on Home field advantage, Practice squad, or paying down the coaches salary will go into the Bank budget. At the end of every 3 years we will hold the Super Dynasty Bowl. The money in the bank will be added to the 1st place prize of $300.

Looking for advice.

In my 16 team PPR league, do I start Felix Jones tonight or sweat it out and see if Isaac Redman plays Sunday night?

I gotta go back to work, won't be back until after tonight's game starts. Feel free.

Giants secondary fell apart in the second half - and yet another CB injured.

Cruz with 3 drops - yikes.

I don't know that I've ever seen an OL hold that much or blatantly. Romo is really slippery, and he's great improvising but those guys in front are not a good unit. The booth guys said this was a career game for Romo, definitely a great performance.

Good win by the Cowboys but I am not suprised.

With a healthy Demarco Murray they are a different team. Any team that when you have back that can get you 5 yards a pop plus consistantly will put you in a great position offensively. I'm actually more suprised that they didn't score more.

If Ogletree can even play to 1/2 of what he did and when Witten gets to even 90%, with health, that offense will be good once again.

What was more suprising to me was how they limited Manning and the Giants passing game. I know there were drops, someone mentioned 3 by Cruz, which is a gamechanger though. Claiborne seemed to somewhat hold his own verses a tough matchup in Nicks. The secondary was the Cowgirls problem last year so if that is somewhat shored up they could be interesting.

Like any team, health is what will determine if they do well or not. In week 2 they could lose a few pieces at any time. Imagine if next week they find out Witten is out for the season, they lose Ware to an injury, and Dez gets suspended for the year. All the sudden they go from world beaters to can they possibly make the playoffs at all.

Go Steelers!

It was a huge win and one of the best of his career but he played like that almost all of last year. Yeah, he choked (as did Garrett with his playcalling) in the Jets and Lions games but despite those two atrocious finihses, his stats and qb rating (4th in NFL) were excellent and behind only Rodgers, Brees and Brady.

I like that Murray is physical, but he won't last half the season if he takes on every hit like he did last night.

It's a loooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggg season. Besides, the Giants typically look like crap until the end of the season when everyone is calling Manning a bust and demanding for Coughlin to be replaced...Then they go on a late season run, upset teams like the Eagles and Cowboys (who in September and Oct looked like sure fits for the super bowl) to dump Tom Brady and the Pats in the last minute of the super bowl.

Romo had a good game? yay. Do it in December.

Just look at what Romo has done to the Giants the past 4 games. He has dominated. So no surprise that he had another good game. Was it entertaining? Sure. But we've seen Romo go off before. He's the new Farve. Watch here in another few weeks he'll play equally bad and kill his team.

The only thing to take from last night's game is that Witten is damn tough.

The Giants will be fine. And I haven't seen anything to change the fact that the cowboys can sometimes be real good...Especially early in the season... They usually are. And then collapse in a few months.

Lets see what they do in December. That's when it matters.

Go Pack Go!

IMO, they won't be damn fine. In a pass-happy league, they have no corners. Add in an insane schedule (look below) and I am already writing them off to a 7-9 season and third place...so much for the 9-7 I predicted (which is the one that counts) a couple days ago.

Tampa, at Carolina, at Philly, Cleveland, at San Fran, Washington, at Dallas, Pitt, at Cincy, GB, at Washington, NO, at Atlanta, at Baltimore, Philly

I have two problems with Dallas and their names are Romo and Ryan.

You just cannot trust Tony Romo. He's the anti-Eli. Just when you think his team is absolutely unstoppable and Tony's made 50 great plays in a row, he takes a dump when it counts. Now, with that terrible line they have to depend on him. His ability to slip out of the grasp of elite rushers is special, as is the ability to turn that extra second into a great play. But playground ball doesn't win it all.

Secondly, Rob Ryan. Ugh. I hated that dude in Cleveland. In Dallas he has some great pieces to work with and especially if those corners keep doing that well he will win his gambles a lot. But he does two things an awful lot which are predictable and exploitable. He leaves the middle of the field open, and when he's pissed off he will consistently call in the house blitz. If you have a smart QB you can burn the living bejeezus out of a Ryan coached team with the run or pass once you've become accustomed to their tendencies.

Again, the Ryan 3-4 will be (is) better in Dallas with those players but it and he are seriously flawed.
