Utah Jazz Survivor ROUND 2

Who would you vote off in Round 2?

sorry, i can't vote for earl. the guy is what he is, but he's not the second most expendible player on this team... certainly not with the PG situation how it is now. same reason i can't vote for JT even though he's a shadow of his former self and can't run or jump anymore. both guys will get voted off soon enough, but for me both of them have some value even neither are part of our top 10.

to me, this came down to carroll, evans or murphy. i'm too intrigued by murphy to throw him away before he's played a game... evans only does 1-2 things well, but ultimately i went with the guy who is borderline NBA talent. works hard and occasionally hits a shot, but i think carroll is the most expendible on this team... especially since gordon, marvin, paul and even burks will spend time at the 3 this season.

Watson, the guy who basically said he was asking his agent to get him off the team when Tinsley was playing over him. **** Watson.

He does not excel at creating for others. He can throw some nice alley oops. He excels at refusing to shoot the ball or take a layup in favor of passing the ball all the time, to a fault.

he has literally the best assist % in the NBA. number one.

yes, he also has a horrible shot, but calling him redundant -- the guy with the closest thing to PG skills on a roster with almost none of that -- is what i'm contesting.

"basically" said. i love how this interpretation has just become fact now even though he actually didn't say that.

whatever. i don't care enough about watson to defend him to the death or anything. but our roster is EXTREEEEEEEMELY light on playmaking and extremely heavy on young wings with high potential, which is why to me carroll is by far the most expendable. carroll could get abducted by aliens tonight and i seriously wouldn't even notice he was missing. that makes him an easier "off" than watson, murphy, evans or tinsley.

JT is a much better passing and creating PG. I don't need a stat to tell me that.

Your poor interpretations of one quote goes against the mountain of quotes he's made praising the organization, both before and after that particular quote. meh

The anti-Watson sentiment on this board is ****ing embarrassing. Seriously, get lives.

Not as embarrassing as the Anti-Al sentiment.

Watson ****ing blows and isn't genuine. That, and he is worse than Tinsley.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Riding adrenaline and some modern treatment on his sprained ankle, Earl Watson took a close game and broke it open for Utah.

He keyed a clinching 14-0 fourth quarter run to help the Jazz beat the Los Angeles Lakers 96-87 Saturday night.

More on the Lakers

For more news, notes and analysis of the Lakers, check out the Land O' Lakers blog from the Kamenetzky Brothers. Blog

"You don't really notice because you are lost in the game," Watson said. "The emotion takes over."

Al Jefferson scored 18 points and Paul Millsap had 16.

"Man, Earl Watson isn't even supposed to be playing right now, that's the crazy thing about it. He's out there on one leg, having an amazing game for us," Millsap said.

Watson scored eight points and had six assists in the fourth quarter as the Jazz beat the Lakers for the first time in three tries this season.

After he stole the ball from Pau Gasol at the top of the key and fed Derrick Favors for a dunk, Lakers coach Mike Brown went ballistic and charged after official Zach Zarba.

"Pau was just dribbling and I stole the ball. Pau just fell down but I didn't push him. Maybe they thought I did," Watson said.

Brown received two quick technicals and was ejected with 8:34 to play.

"I was trying to give our guys some juice. I got techs. I shouldn't have got two techs," Brown said. "I put our guys in a deeper hole than we were already in and that probably cost the game."

Watson threw an alley-oop to C.J. Miles that brought the crowd to its feet and then capped the 14-0 run with a 3-pointer with 6:18 to play that gave Utah its biggest lead of the game, 83-68.

"I saw it coming early when I started running because my man was behind the play. Earl just threw it up there," Miles said of the big dunk. "I knew it was a big part of the run we were making and that really got the crowd into it."

Kobe Bryant scored 26 points and Gasol had 24 points and 16 rebounds but the Lakers dropped to 3-8 on the road.

Just about every play went through Bryant after Brown's ejection. Bryant made two 3-pointers and added three free throws after getting fouled on another attempt in a span of 1:13.

"We just have to be patient, just be calm. We've been in this situation before," Bryant said.

Sandwiched around a driving shot by Watson, Andrew Bynum and Gasol scored inside to cut the Jazz lead to 87-81.

But Watson who sprained his ankle against the Clippers on Wednesday, assisted on baskets by Jefferson and Millsap and then made a 3-pointer for a 94-83 lead with 1:06 remaining.

Watson had flown to Los Angeles for treatment on Thursday and was working with the training staff much of the day.

"I used a laser from a doctor who invented it and it's the only one in the world. I was lucky. I still feel like I could still play because winning definitely makes it feel better," Watson said.

Los Angeles lost seven of its first eight games on the road. The Lakers' 90-87 overtime win at Utah was their only one until claiming road wins at Milwaukee and Friday night in Denver.

Many of the Lakers' road woes returned against the Jazz. Plays frequently ended with two Lakers yelling and pointing about where the other should have been.

"You have to give them credit, Utah was very physical with us tonight," Brown said.. "They kicked our behind on the glass and they were up on us in the halfcourt."

In addition to the contributions from Bryant and Gasol, Bynum posted 21 points and 12 rebounds but after that was about it. The rest of the Lakers combined for just 16 points. Los Angeles made 5 of 17 field goal attempts in the final quarter.

Neither team led by more than six points until Watson led the big Utah run. The Jazz took advantage of their fifteenth home game, which is tied with Philadelphia for most in the league.

The Jazz also got a boost from Devin Harris, Raja Bell and Watson who were all game-time decisions after the trio missed Utah's 119-101 loss to Golden State on Thursday.

PS: LOL @ the commentator saying Kobe vs. God is a mismatch. What a plug.

The only thing sadder those nights when Devin Harris shot 1 for 5 for the entire game, was watching Earl Watson come in and go 0 for 4 for zero points. Both PGs would combine for something like 3 or 5 points and get outscored by 20.

I'm still impressed that the Jazz got Atlanta to trade for Harris, even if he's expiring next year.

Two things:

1) Devin had some pretty solid late-game plays for us, especially during the latter half of the season. He came into the partially locked-out season out of shape, but ended his season on a very nice note

2) Compare Devin's memorable highlights from last season with Marv's, and you can understand why most people from Atlanta are pretty stoked on this trade. Still think we won, but I understand why they think they emerged as winners on a superficial level.

Not as embarrassing as the Anti-Al sentiment.

Watson ****ing blows and isn't genuine. That, and he is worse than Tinsley.

Now that IS idiotic.

"Isn't genuine." I guess Kawl Malone isn't genuine either. And Tinsley shot just about as many shots as Watson, at 40%, in HALF as many minutes. Watson knows he can't shoot, so he doesn't, and he STILL had the best assist ratio in the league.

some solid pwning.

and i'll still say... tinsley's creativity would mean more to me if he could run.... AT ALL. the guy wasn't at any point in the season physically able to move at a gait that one would call running. he basically jogged or walked all season, because that's all the guy has left. that's a problem. that also made him completely useless on the defensive end, which is a pretty big deal since that accounts for, ya know, half of all possessions in a game.

that's why, gun to my head, i take watson over tinsley. i realize that's a least of two evils thing, but at least earl is what he is.

I see your point. I just soured on EW after his whining. Carroll will be my choice for Round 3. Evans last longer for me because of his ability to energize the team and the crowd.

Having a hard time seeing how people are voting for Murph Durph here.

I realize he's a 2nd rounder and isn't likely to turn into much, but there is atleast a chance. There's some mystery with him. We know what we have in guys like Watson and Tinsley.

I wont be able to put up the round 3 poll before I head to the Utes game so round 3 will go up on Monday. Or maybe I'll put it up Sunday and leave it open Monday too.

Last time I checked 40% is a lot better than 34. Watson deferred shots to a fault and hurt the offense many times as a result. One of the things I liked about Tinsley was that he wasn't afraid to take a shot within the offense.
