"Veteran Jazz guard Raja Bell told a Miami-area radio station Friday he'll undergo a physical Monday in Salt Lake City.Utah has yet to resolve a buyout with Bell, who is not expected to play for the Jazz during the 2012-13 season.
During the radio interview, Bell said a buyout agreement was reached early last summer. Bell said the Jazz never officially presented it to him, though, and have been unclear about their intentions for him."

Do all vets get yearly physicals before training camp or could this be prelude to a trade? If he fails the physical, perhaps the Jazz have insurance in place and would recoup part of his salary until he's physically able to play.

Unfortunately our time-stream flows "past to future" instead of the other way around, so the "able to play" part looks pretty unlikely.
 
Well atleast jazz invited two other players to trainging camp this defintally means they are planning on filling the last slot with someone beside braille.

Maybe the agreement that was reached was that a buyout would be in the best interests of both parties, but then Roger and his agent couldn't agree on the exact terms with the Jazz (i.e. $).
Raja likely wants his full contract amount (or close to it) so he can then hopefully sign with another team for the vet minimum. Jazz want to pay him as little as possible to go away voluntarily. Utah might make an example of Roger by putting his head on a pike outside the ESA...or at least making him sit in the stands in a sport coat as one of the "inactives" every game.

Oh I agree that I think it is moer on Roger than the Jazz. I think that they did have an agreement and Roger is now holding out for the full amount. I like the head on a pike option personally.

I was mearly playing devils advocate.

How would that work? Let's say that Roger just ups and leaves and never tlaks to the Jazz again. How long before he is found in breach of contract?

It will be interesting to see how this turns out. If the Jazz bring Roger to camp, but then make it pretty clear they don't want him around and especially if this drags into the regular season, perhaps Roger and his agent will file a grievance with the NBPA.

Nope. Doesn't mean a thing. Historically, the Jazz have 17-19 players in camp. Just look back through previous rosters. And then they generally cut down to 14 or sometimes 13. They went with a full roster when they ketp Wesley Matthews, but primarily because other wings were hurt (CJ, IIRC)

Kinda random, but I believe the last Jazz player to interview in Miami while under contract was Bozzer.
 
He probably agreed to a deal contingent on signing a veteran's minimum elsewhere, but got no takers and backed out of the deal. The deal was probably that Utah pays $3million (or whatever he is getting this season) minus the $1.3m vet's minimum. No vet minimum deal, no buyout deal.

I actually commend Utah for not giving him his full contract buyout. I would rather him sit on the bench and not play all season than to buy him out at full price of his deal. We will see how desired of a player he is after this season, if he behaves like a distraction all this season. If he is honorable and they can't work out a by out, he should come to every practice and game ready to play and be a veteran voice and player-coach. His greatest value since returning to Utah was during halftime of the Jazz-Miami overtime game, as he motivated that comeback. That is the Raja I would like to have on the Jazz this season, not the pouty I don't get to play Roger.
 
I would offer him 2 Million as buyout. So if he gets the Veteran Minimum(1 million) then he only gets 3 Million rather than getting his full 3.5 million.

He should not be rewarded for being a locker room problem. He shouldn't even get to match that amount and get to sign elsewhere.

Let him Rot on the bench all year long. He knows at his age nobody will sign him next year. Jazz have leverage. Raja does not.

Some people might make it sound petty but I wouldn't put up with his childish actions. Use him as an example.

I'm curious as to what kind of treatment results in a legit grievance. For example, what about insisting in calling him Roger? ;-)
