In defense of Favors

Lets keep our emotions in check. For all we know Favors could be a slow starter. The Jazz have only played 3 preseason games so far. Favors will come on strong very soon.

The guy who was playing here looks like a different guy from the preseason so far--except for his defense of course.

Favors needs no defense he is awesome. The same people complaining about Favors are hailing the play of Hayward. Both are still getting comfortable. Both can and will play much better. Favors is better than Hayward.

As for Foye he always starts slow, but he will come around and we will need his three point shooting. Why o why do Jazz fans always need a villain and someone to complain about.

Human nature. Same reason why others tend to be eternal optimists.

Oh, just stick around - you ain't seen nothing yet.

Foye is gonna get crucified on this board.

I have been let down with the offensive play from Favors so far this preseason.

However, I still think he is one of the future cornerstones of the team. He stays.

Even if he never gets better and stays at what he is now then thaat is OK. Every team could use a tall, athletic, rebounding defensive anchor in the paint. Add that to Kanter who appears to be startign to shine adn I think the Jazz front court will continue to be one of the best in the league for years to come.

Agreed that getting worked up over preseason is not the right thing to do. However, it is also clear that not performing in the preseason likely translates into not starting when the games get real. Just as it should be.

I am officially worried about Favors. He can do wonders on the pic'nr roll, but we don't have any pg that will run it. Last year, Gordon and Favors ran it well. Doesn't look like Ty wants to run a lot of pnroll this year.

I don't get it. How can people not see that the contribution this guy makes on defense makes his offense pretty much irrelevant to the conversation? I don't care if the guy never again averages 5 PPG. He is simply so much better on defense than Jefferson or Millsap will ever be close to being that he needs to be on the damn floor. I missed the Lakers game completely. But in the 1st half of the OKC game the guy was everywhere on defense. Blocked shots, deflection, steals, and changing shots he did not get.

Simply put Favors as he is now is superior to both Millsap and Jefferson. We need a guy that can produce offense. And I don't care who that is right now. But Favors needs to be paired with one of them and in the game for 30+. His contribution on defense is worth it.

Defense wins championships, not offense. Remember when they took Favors out in the playoffs and put Jefferson back in and the spurs went on like a 25-0 run?
I think Franklin took that quarter out of his memory.

Watching this video makes me believe that Favors is going to be okay offensively. he just needs some time. so what if he is never the #1 option offensively. Ben Wallace was not either, but he was still fantastic. Defense wins championships, and if we have a guy that can give you 1o plus points a game and be a defensive monster, thats fine with me. there might only be 2 to 3 other bigs in the entire league that can impact a game the way favors can. the great thing is that Favors will be a way better offensive player than Ben Wallace was, not to mention he is longer and more athletic than wallace. It seems obvious to me that Favors has more touch around the rim, and every once in a while he shows flashes that he can be a decent offensive player. Lack of Length and athleticism is what got us booted out of the playoffs 3 or 4 straight years against the lakers. We have that now in Favors. I am excited about the future. We are going to be pretty good if you ask me. Kanter is coming along too.
