What's new

Mormon Temple ceremony.

Thriller, no offense, but I don't really consider you worth responding to in depth, especially since you're trying to tell me what I should think as a lawyer and your post is treading into Godwin's law territory.

Even for you, this was a pretty lame *** response.

Again, I ask, what is/are, "The Mormons" from your post?

Of course, the Mormons of the time sent Porter Rockwell to kill Governor Boggs, which brings us back to Joseph's relationship with violence again. Full circle.

Pretty bad generalization if you ask me. And btw, bringing Germans and Jews into this discussion wasn't to introduce WWII, Nazism, etc but to demonstrate the use (and negatives) of generalizations. Not exactly in line with Godwin's Law. We weren't comparing Nazis, the Jews, Holocaust. Nor was it an attempt to end an argument or discussion, hence, why I asked you to specify what you meant by, "The Mormons" and to provide evidence to support your claim. Might want to brush up on that theory, sparky. If you feel like that was somehow a personal attack or an attempt to end this discussion then you're gravely mistaken.

So here, if this makes your butt feel better, lets forget the Germans and Jews comparison. I won't even use a war example. I'll do exactly as you did regarding "The Mormons." Catholics hate Evangelicals, Muslims ordered the 9/11 attacks, Arizonans hate Mexicans, gingers are planning to take over the world, Ukrainian bball players love donuts, posters with Chuck Norris as their profile pics are in desperate need of girlfriends, fat people are lazy, and California lawyers don't know anything about basketball because they buy Fess uniforms.

Happy now?

What is/are, "The Mormons" who sent Rockwell to kill the governor and what evidence do you have to support this claim? An honest question. Please, no more fluff or incorrect usage of theories that you haven't studied since you had to in law school. Bring the meat this time, kicky.

BTW, I'll definitely check out that book. Thanks for the link.

Kicky, please name me your 15 books. I'd like to read all 15. After, I did drive to WY today. Do u know what Mr. Porter organized between UT and Evanston? Do you?

Never ceases to amaze me how much non-LDS are conerned with the LDS.

It is because Mormon's are some of the happiest people on earth and non-LDS are jealous so they try to think of ways to demean then. For example imagine two girls, one is really pretty and the other is ugly. The ugly girl says "well that other girls nose is big" in attempt to try to demean her.

I think there are a few reasons for this. Mormonism is incredibly influential throughout utah as well as much of the mountain west, and it is not as though they keep to themselves. Their proselytizing efforts as well as their political involvements tend to invite interest, for better or worse. They are also peculiar in both their beliefs as well as their origins. They are a quintessentially American religion.

I'm just curious what people view "the Urim and Thummum" as. What are they. Also how are they different from seer stones. How many seer stones are out there?

I view them as the roughly 900 a.d. (years later) Mayan wall painting of them along with a bunch of metal bound papyrus (papyrai?) transcripts below a throwned leader. This matches the LDS description perfectly as best I can figure.

I have no problems with any mormons I know .. except for maybe 1 or 2. Having said that, they typically come off a bit holier than thou (even the truly humble). That doesn't bother me, but I think it bothers others.

Either Rockwell on his own (since he did threaten the guy) or someone he served. I don't think it was at all unclear what I meant. The only reason to use "the Mormons" is because that would be Rockwell's motivation for the crime.

If your argument is purely linguistic then you're just characteristically getting your panties in a bunch.

As long as we're airing grievances, I'd like to request that you stop being such a loony in political threads. As a liberal it honestly causes me pain to know that many people are grouping me in with you when they read whatever you're writing.

I'm not at home at the moment so I can't just rattle you off titles. I also suspect you're being disingenuous. A couple I can name off the top of my head are the Schindler book I linked to earlier. A book by one of his descendants (John or Jack Rockwell?) that's more aimed towards a younger audience called "Stories from the Life of Porter Rockwell". A book by Stephen Leseur about the 1838 Mormon War. And several books in a series known as the Porter Rockwell chronicles. I have three or four of those. If you really want a full list and aren't just trying to be a jerk I can PM one to you.

I don't know the answer to your question for sure (again, not at home nor do I have the inclination to look it up). If it's from his time in Utah and he organized something going into Wyoming it might have something to do with Pony Express routes. That would be my best guess.

Either that or maybe he was selling them his double-thick bearskin coats that he used as a semi-bulletproof vest. Gotta love old west ingenuity. :)

Wonder why Utah has 1 in 5 women on antidepressants, then?

For better? Can you give an example of that? Because there are way more examples in the "for worse" category.

Pot meet kettle.

Umm, all the new members whose souls are saved for eternity. Or is that not important?
