What's new

Free Alec Burks

And Rose, Westbrook, and Wade are head and shoulders above Burks athletically.

Idk burks seems to be a lot like Westbrook to me. No doubt they are all head and shoulders above him as players, but athletically it may be closer than you think. I think if he can develop his strength a little, and his skills significantly he will start to seem as athletic as those guys.
Obviously his strength and lack of skills are a huge drawback, but if they were better going into the NBA, then there is no way he would be around for the jazz to draft him. So the good w/ the bad I guess

What's the point of going on about how players will earn their chances when Burks outplays Foye in every way and gets doghoused? I think this sends a bad message, and I'm not even touching the development angle.

Have you never seen Westbrook play? The difference between Westbrook and Burks is Westbrook goes through people and dunks, while Burks goes into people and gets fouled. Burks is not close to Westbrook athletically or physically.

I don't disagree.

Here's how things go around here every single year. 1. Jazz win more games than losing. 2. It's coaches fault something something fire Corbin something play young guys something something win championship if Favors got 59 minutes per night.

This is an NBA organization with an NBA coach who sees these guys in practice every single day. If he's not playing Burks then Burks has not earned it yet. Burks will play enough when he is ready.

Yeah that's about right. I think that is how the jazz organization works, they use tough love in order to motivate players to realize their full potential. So once in a while it doesn't work because players will feel entitled and won't put in time to improve and become the best they can be.
Obviously everyone will be more concerned when the jazz have a player like favors and burks because their potential is pretty much unlimited.
So either the jazz get what they want, which is a hungry motivated player constantly improving his game in ordr to be the best they can be, or they get the opposite. Then you keep the hardworking improving team player ones and let the others go. Can't say I disagree with that strategy. Who wants players unwilling to improve?

Foye was guaranteed minutes the second he signed. Markets like us have to satiate the few quality FAs we are able to sign.

Please don't anyone act like Foye isn't getting preferential treatment over Burks, it's just straight dishonesty.

For the record, I'm in support of the Foye Burks tandem on the guard line

Agreed, also Foye is a good playerm not a star but he is a good shooter, a functional backup PG, he hasn't done anything to not deserve minutes so you can't really bench him because eventually Burks will probably be better. If Burks wants to play he will work hard and get better, then he will play. Its not a conspiracy.

At the moment maybe Rose is, depending on what he looks like after rehab. Wade used to be, and Westbrook I disagree with completely.
Burks will be a better player than Westbrook when it's all said and done.

Respectfully forgive me for remaining skeptical at the 'If Burks earns his minutes he'll play'. The exact same coach stuck him behind Bell Miles and Howard for over half the year last season.

And plus it's the perfect excuse... anytime Burks starts to play for whatever reason it can be declared he finally 'earned it'.

I guess you didn't watch the video I posted, empirical evidience of Westbrooks superior athletic ability. As for your last point, I would love nothing more than that, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

This!
I've never been a Burks homer until this season, but I've decided to jump on the vocal wagon.
The best post of this thread is right here.

I don't think it's a huge deal either. Despite what most are thinking, I think foye is a better player to be playing this point. He knows what to do on both ends of the floor way more than Burks. He knows his role, and does it pretty well. Burks really doesn't know his role yet. And if burks wants to play he'll bust his *** and get better to the point that he'll have to eventually start.

I try my hardest to think of you as a real poster and not trolling in every single post.

I actually just watched that video, and I see what you're saying.
So I'll take a step back a bit, and agree with maybe Westbrooks superior athletic ability if we're talking about playing above the rim.
Westbrook doesn't quite have the intangibles that Burks has though, and I certainly stand by that.
