Official Draft Thread

I agree that it's best not to trade down or out of a draft unless another team is offering something really proven and worthwhile. The draft is a free chance to add talent to your team. Most franchise players can only be acquired through the draft, so it's best to have the most options possible and get the best prospect you can. I don't really believe this year's draft is a crap shoot. Lottery players are the dominant players in the league. The Jazz are going to audition wings and bigs and rank them. They'll want the highest player on their board possible. No reason to trade down unless a stellar offer emerges.

"Never ever trade down in the NBA Draft."

Unless the players you like are likely later picks and you could gain something and still pick one of the players you wanted. Its pretty simple.

I agree with the never trade down theory. Drafts are crap shoots as it is, and the lower you go the less chance you have of ever getting anyone with value, no matter how many picks you get. You have a much better chance at getting an NBA player at 9 than you do with two picks at 16 and 23.

Ross Siler tweeted that KOC mentioned that it was probably the best workout the Jazz have ever had while he has been here. For what that's worth.

I thought they brought in Chris Paul, Deron Williams and Ray Felton together.... but okay.

I still would love to have Monroe. But it looks like his stock is rising to fast to be in the #9 range. Udoh if he falls to us would be great. If possible I would love to trade up and get someone like Flavors or Cousins.

Udoh "if he falls?" Most draft boards don't have him going that high.
I'm just not impressed that much with the flotsam and jetsam available at #9. Sure wish we could pull a deal with Minny to move up.

For me, it's Cousins or bust. Jazz need a big center to compete against LA. Cousins can be that guy. I don't think Aldrich can. If Jazz can't deal up to #4, then they trade down and pick up an extra first. IMO, there are 5-6 very good starters in this draft and then a ton of quality backups all the way through the end of the first. Just a bad time to have the #9. It's not looking all that much better than a pick at #14 or even #20.

I was listening to KOC on Locke this afternoon and he said he normal stuff about who the Jazz are going to draft. "Best Player Available". He said something like "I'm not going to turn down an M.J. just because I'm looking at a specific position."

Makes me wonder if, like a lot of others are thinking, KOC is looking at Henry or someone like that. He could be doing the I'm not saying jack trick too because every time someone draws a name out of him or any of the Jazz brass, someone else drafts them.

My thinking at this point is that we have 2-3 guys who we draft if they fall to 9.

DeMarcus Cousins
Wesley Johnson
Greg Monroe

If none of those guys fall that low, then trade down. Preferably trade down to Minnesota, and pray that Whiteside/Udoh lasts until 16.

In that scenario, the Jazz should just take Udoh or Whiteside at 9 and entertain the idea of picking Aminu, Babbit or George.

Aminu could easily play power forward. He is physically similar to AK. Quick and long. However there is still hope Aminu could get stronger. In playing AK and Aminu together would have awesome defensive help and switching possibilities.

I saw some Aminu vids, doesn't look bad at all. Bad thing is his jumpshot resembles Brewers without the crooked elbow.

If KOC is talking about not turning down an MJ, maybe he has a trade in the works for a #2-3 pick.

The best choice for Utah at #9 is Hassan Whiteside... honestly, he's the only good choice left if you're looking for a big man. he has the size, length, and plays hard on defense.. smart player with a lot of potential.

And the perfect candidate for Jermaine O'Neal syndrome, which is horrible for the team that drafts him.

Who is this MJ of which he speaks?
I just don't see someone at #9 that is going to be so much better than the best available big. And I doubt KOC was dropping a hint that a deal is in place to move up. To get a deal done with Philly or Minn would be more than we could ever hope.

KOC is just setting us up so he can draft the next white hoax.
