What's new

Following potential 2013 draftees

WCS could end up being better offensively than Favors. He's a bit quicker and more fluid. The two next to each other would be pretty impressive.

After seeing Bennett play yesterday, I'm showing renewed interest in Poythress.

I feel like there's a good chance at least one of Olynyk, Austin, and WCS will be available with our first pick. Any one of them could be a good back up big for us.

I definitely think the idea of drafting a big. Letting Milsap and AJ walk. Sign a cheap vet and then use our cap space on a PG and a 3rd wing might be the best way to go.

sign augustin and Splitter (2 yrs 5 mil and 3 yrs 27mil)

Augustin, Wolters, Tinsley (why not)
Hayward, Burks
Williams, Carroll, Saric
Favors, Evans
Splitter, Kanter. Aldrich

Guys, there are potentially 2 teams picking before of us who do not yet have a PG of the future, namely Orlando and Dallas. (and may be Detroit if they don't think Knight is their future PG. They also have Calderon & Stuckey).

- Now we have Smart at #1 PG, Burke at #2.

- But Smart could be a reach if Orlando gets top 3 pick (likely to be Noel, Bazz, McLemore). So may be Orlando picks BPA and pass on Smart.

- From there I see Smart "free falling" as most teams already have their future PG / legit PG. Also why would you take Smart as a SG if he can't actually shoot?

- Smart could slip into the teens IMO.

- Then you have Dallas who already have Collison who hasn't been playing too badly of late.

I guess my point is, it's not a lock that we'll miss out on Burke. Smart is good, but Orlando's pick is too high ATM to take him. Dallas already has Collison - would they not rather not stash away a cheap back up Big?

^^

Not to mention we also look quite good to overtake Dallas as it stands... Dallas just needs 2 wins and we need to lose 2 to be equal in the standings. I think Dallas wants to make the playoffs this year (they don't care too much for picks - they have Dirk to lure in FA's).

So it's quite likely we'll overtake them in our draft position the way we've been playing of late...

I can see the logic in this. I dont see dallas passing up smart if he is there or detroit.

I don't know all the draft rules, so I don't know if it is possible, but I hope the Jazz use one of the picks on this guy.

I've heard some of you talk about him before, but I wasn't sure. Then I read the piece about him, and I think I'm in love.

Nobody else the Jazz could draft at #14 is going to get them more wins. Nobody else will sell more tickets. He is a leader not a manager. And he has really cool nickname....The Rainman.

Please bring on the rain.

I think McCollum is now tied with Burke on my scale. Watching Burke last game, he got open for shots on quite a few screens but doesn't have the height and quick release to get his shot off accurately. Its been a problem for him the last few games actually. Its a huge gamble if CJ can play PG obviously, but if the basketball IQ is there from workouts you might want to take a chance on him. Anxiously waiting for Burke's next game.

Let's say Detroit takes Smart. I'm pretty sure we'll pick before Dallas the way our team is going... (just no motivation to make the playoffs IMO). So we're in a good position to take Burke.

Just ran the draft sim 30 times Nick. We got Burke is 29 of them. And thats with Smart going in the top 3 every time. All of them have MCW going before Burke. As do most of the updated mocks.

You have to do it 100 times to get a realistic sample size.

Get to clickin and let us know, Ben.

Nah.. that lotto is outdated now. MCW has slipped in the last couple of weeks since the lotto machine came online.

Smart will slip out of top 3 - OSU is out.

MCW has a chance to rise, I agree, but so does Burke.

Orlando is sure to take BPA, since they just need talent, as will Detroit. It's hard to project the draft until after the lottery. Still, I think Burke is likely to be there if the Jazz draft #13 or 14. I think McCollum will probably be there too.

Guys like Olynyk and WCS could rise. I'm not sure where Carter-Williams would go.

Orlando will definitely get a top 3 pick (they're 2nd worst in the league ATM).

I'd be surprised if Detroit picks Smart - after years playing behind a PG who can't shoot (Stuckey) and a draft pick PG who is not a pure PG (Knight). Burke will be too much of a reach for them. So yes I agree they'll pick BPA.

If we pass Dallas in the draft, we could be looking at Smart VS Burke. I know it's crazy but that's what the logic tells me.
