Following potential 2013 draftees

I like aminu but for me it is either aminu or Carroll. to redundant. then I would take aminu. more potential, but the more pgab talks the less I like some one.

the idea of bringing Howard in is asinine. we don't need him

Aminu intrigues me a little as well. I wouldn't pay a lot for him, but would take him on the cheap. When he has been given minutes, he has produced pretty good. He is a really good rebounder, shot blocker, and steals guy. He isn't known for his offense, but he is young and it could come around. If he is cheap, give it a shot. He doesn't have to start either, just bring him off the bench. He cant be any worse than Marvin at 8 mil a year. The more players we can get at a bargain, the better.

I like him as well.. even though he will NEVER be an offensive threat.

I don't know that he would need to be. If the Jazz pushed the tempo and worked off of turnovers then he would be a valuable piece to a team. Heck, in Ronnie Brewer could find a scoring feel for the Jazz then Aminu could as well.

Yeah, that would give us 3 defensive/non-shooting 3's, but Marvin is going to be gone the following year.
It seems people don't really understand just how bad Aminu is on the offensive end. Here are the stats on their total points per possession, points per possession on spotups, and percentage of attempts from cuts, O-Rebs and Transition (garbage buckets):

Carroll

Total PPP: 0.98
Spot-Up PPP: 0.79
Garbage Buckets: 42.2%

Marvin

Total PPP: 0.92
Spot-Up PPP: 0.87
Garbage Buckets: 33.2%

Aminu

Total PPP: 0.85
Spot-Up PPP: 0.6
Garbage Buckets: 50.1%

Notes: This past season (12/13), league average for the above stats were 0.96, 0.98 and 29% (I've actually cut out the "All Other Plays" stat from the mysynergysports stats to get this percentage...I have a nice spreadsheet), respectively. League average PPP for the components of "Garbage Buckets" was 1.17 for Cuts, 1.08 for O-Rebs and 1.13 for Transition.

Aminu is a HUGE liability on offense, and a few highlights here and there don't change that. Signing him for the MLE would be laughably bad (almost as bad as trading Gordo and a pick for Shabazz...).

What were Josh Howard's number the year he played with the Jazz?

Overall Josh was worse, but he got a lot of his offense out of ISOs (13.8%...). Anyway, here are the stats:

Josh Howard

Total PPP: 0.8
Spot-Up PPP: 0.67
Garbage Buckets: 29% (which explains why Aminu ranks higher than Howard overall)

So Aminu is better than Howard and Howard was not on a minimum deal. Got it.

So Aminu us better than Howard
Despite the overall numbers, Howard had the superior offensive skillset (if the numbers are to be believed). Aminu just takes an easier set of shots. Neither is a player the Jazz should be trying to acquire; spending more than a couple mil per year on Aminu would be a mistake.

I'm with GVC on this that they shouldn't really be looking at Aminu.
I really am against picking up a 3 that can't shoot the 3.
I'm not sure on his defense, I would have to see more, but I really don't see the point in picking up a 3 that cant shoot the 3, no point at all.

While Franklin can be terribly heavy-handed, I suppose it has gotten a little stale around here and the comedy is welcome.

Let's talk Ricky Ledo...

Draftexpress has us taking him in the second round. He looks intriguing as a prospect, and in the second round no less. I think he's got some attributes that translates to the nba.

Thoughts.

From Chad's Ford Chat at the Combine:

Allen (So CaL)I really like what I saw of Dennis Schroeder at the Hoops Summit. Is it a stretch to think that he'll be the 2nd PG taken off the board when it's all said and done?

Chad Ford (1:20 PM)Probably. Burke, McCollum and Carter-Williams probably go ahead of him. But he could be next after that. Thrilled he's going to be playing in the combine. Will be great to see him matched up against his peers.

JR (Missouri)Which of the "second-tier" point guards could possibly separate themselves or benefit themselves the most at the combine.. Pressey, Siva, Lorenzo Brown, Canaan, Ray McCallum, Pierre Jackson...?

Chad Ford (1:39 PM)Could/should add Shane Larkin and Dennis Schroeder to the top of that list. They both will look good in the combine setting. Ditto for Jackson who is an elite athlete. Canaan too ... These guys will all be going head-to-head in workouts and then I think you'll start to see some separation. But to me Larkin, Schroeder and Jackson are the best of that group right now.

Schroeder considered a 2nd tier point gaurd!!?? Burn Chad Ford!

Sounds about right to me. Right now Schroder is a project. He has the potential to be better than the 1st tier PG prospects but he certainly isn't better than them now.
