Following potential 2013 draftees

Humphries makes ten. Million. Dollars.

It's stupid wasting that kind of cap space for a terrible pick when you can get ten times more at the deadline. Hell, jazz could buy a better pick from la for six million. Dumbest idea I've read in a month

Why not do both?

nooo humphries expires with favors so its negligible, thats the way i see it, plus humphries can give us servicable minutes at 4 and 5, and not be the malcontent millsap is and will be if he gets benched for favors.

this is exactly why millsap must go because if hes resigned he needs more than 1 year so his pay would overlap with favors next contract. we cannot over allocate all that $ into PF's not when favors doesn't want to play C and millsap doesnt want to play SF

Pretty sure you can only spend $3 million max in a transaction. And the Jazz wouldn't lose any money taking on Humphries since they will be paying roughly $50 million for the roster regardless of how little salary is contractually owed (they have $25-ish million to play with IN CAP SPACE before they spend any actual money).

I'm intrigued by the sign and trade Millsap for K Hump and the #26 idea.

Adds salary for us, doesnt make us better, doesnt bring in someone who will steal playing time from Kanter and Favors, contract expires at the end of the year.

How much more salary do we need to add?

In the $25 million dollar range. And it's not exactly a "need" so much as a complete waste of cap space.

We're not buying any picks. Ever.

Trading for Hump isnt "paying $10 million dollars", thats money the organization has to spend anyways. Buying a pick wouldnt get us any closer to the salary floor, so it would affect the franchises bottom line more. We're in a really unique situation. Have a bunch of money to spend, but dont want to spend it on any long term contracts. Something like this trade could be perfect, but I'd shoot for a better pick.

Franklin probly knows all of this and is trolling.

Is there any other team in salary cap hell who wants to get rid of an expensive 1 year contract who has a better pick?

That makes sense. I said a couple posts ago that I would like to get a better pick. I like the idea of the trade

I'd rather ask for their 2014 pick. And a second rounder this year.

All I want for this year is to fill out the roster with short term contracts and spend the minimum salary and roll with the young guys.

I literally dont care who the Jazz sign or for how much as long as it is for one year and the purpose is for us to reach the salary floor.

This summer will define the franchise. Either be a treadmill team and sign "blah" guys to long term contracts, or strip the franchise down to its core players and start building around them.

We're set up so perfectly to do it that its ****ing painful to think we might miss this chance. I dont have full confidence that the Jazz will have the balls to go for the Home Run. Worried they'll play it safe and sign Millsap or someone like him to a long term contract.

Probably. And I took the bait. Oh well.

Still, $10 million for an actual late 1st rounder isn't hot return. Jazz might be able to do this and just take on Hump in the middle of next season if nothing better comes along?

Agree with all of that. Even though I like Millsap.

BTW, does Jason (or Jarron) Collins fit the bill? I think so.

With how much Lindsay has talked about it, I think they will be willing to make these types of moves.

Great post, uggs.

This. This. This.

So will ya'll burn ESA to the ground if Schroder is on the board at 14 and the jazz take someone else?

I have this nagging feeling that the Jazz end up with McCollum and the price will be the 14th pick and Alec Burks.

I would not be a fan of this. At all.
