Raul Neto : new spectacular talent

It just seems to me that when you talk about religion, people tend to get uncomfortable. Don't really know why....

You do not know why?

I will chime in briefly with why I believe that people tend to get uncomfortable with speaking about religion on a sports internet message board. People get uncomfortable when religion is brought up because a person"s faith is highly personal and a message board is highly impersonal. From my own personal experience, I have come to the realization that a lot of these "topics" that are brought up on JazzFanz (I am speaking about the general discussion board specifically, and this thread which has slid off of the topic of basketball) are highly nuanced and are difficult to adequately convey on an internet message board. I normally avoid these issues on this website because I have found that the responses are often sweeping generalizations, and often are not empathetic with opposing viewpoints.

Personally, I am not uncomfortable with speaking about religion on this message board because I am ashamed that I am a Christian. I am uncomfortable with speaking about my faith on this message board because my faith is so important to me that I would not want it misconstrued as trolling. This board is filled with trolls, duplicate accounts, and about a fifth grade level of humor. I have found it easier to just have fun and vent about my beloved Utah Jazz and Utah Utes, but that's just me.

Yep. Agreed with this.

Yeah same here, if you count all the "off topic" posts of this whole thread, I would say only 5% would constitute "off topic".

It just seems to me that when you talk about religion, people tend to get uncomfortable. Don't really know why.... it's just another "topic" to me. I'm a Christian, but when I hear TBS talks about Islam, I'm actually interested in what he's about.

You don't get it. Religion is a controversial and personal topic. Just because you believe in it does n't make it ok to talk about it especially in a basketball forum. You can talk your little head off in the General discussion board. No problem. I am sure that if I started making fun of your beliefs in this forum you would be upset about it. I find people thinking that God cares one bit about who the Jazz drafted pretty ridiculous. However, if you think there is divine intervention regarding the Jazz draft choices then more power to you. I just don't want to hear about it. The Jazz forum is to talk about basketball and yes there are many people who go off topic but there are a few topics that are lighting rods for offending people. Religion, Politics and Sex are probably the top 3.

It is comments like this that make religious people sound like dopes. Why don't you just say you're going to hell.

I'm starting to understand why NAOS quit this forum... he made 1 off-topic comment and he got ripped apart.

I've apologized and apologized, and have said my peace, but if you want to keep on this crusade, I guess nobody can stop you.

You seem like a nice guys, kkk.. so I'll help you out so you don't become to deluded..

You claim you have "apologized and apologized".. now I don't think you needed to apologize at all.. just respect the request of others and stop taking the thread religious at that point. However, you did not "apologize and apologize." You apologized once (see 2nd quote below).. but then notice your posts, in order, following that one apology.. just wanted you to see things didn't go quite like you characterized them above.

no thanks.. as you well know PKM, GD is a dog's breakfast and people tear you apart over there.

I'm plenty happy here, thanks.

Sorry guys, I'll tone it down. Apologies if I had offended anyone.

Last thing I'd say is please love the sinner, but hate the sin.

Again, my apologies.

Don't really buy into this "troll" thing.. It's a discussion and I'm simply followed the flow of it, wherever it may lead...

This is not a Channel, it's a conversation... you in?

Yeah, no idea where that came from to be honest... definitely out of the left field.

I dunno, it's like inviting your friends to your house for dinner, then telling them "You can't talk about anything other than the meal we're about to eat".

Or like the producer telling Daniel Negreanu at the Big Game "You can't talk about anything else other than POKER".

Well.. then the convo is going to be extremely limited, and get boring real quick. In a given conversation, sometimes it leads to other things.. but that's OK, other people will start talking about something else and we'll be right back at the original topic again.

It's not like I'm the only poster here and everyone has to follow my line on thoughts???
