Jazz FA rumors

Millsap is getting a hard slap in the face of reality.

Yep. There really haven't been rumors about anyone pursuing him. Even lesser name guys have had their names floated around (like a Copeland). Now I'm convinced those types of leaks come from agents. Millsap's uncle is his agent; not experienced in the ways of the league, nor would he have all the media contacts. With Al only getting $13M, I think Millsap can be had for what he makes now. Bringing him back gives the team some veteran leadership, although Paul is not real vocal, so he won't mind Trey taking the lead in that respect. It's not going to hinder the development of Kanter or Favors; those two can still get 30 mins/per. In fact, with the threat of Millsap's mid-range game and his 3-pt ability, having Paul may actually HELP Derrick and Enes; when either are paired with Paul, teams won't be able to just pack the paint.

As free agents drop it is looking more and more like the Jazz will have a very similar team to last year.
Swap Al for Gobert
Swap Watson for Burke
Resign Sap, Foye, Tinsley and Carrol and there you have it!
Deja Vu all over again

I guess I get what you are saying, but not having Albert on the team makes it a vastly different team altogether. Add in that we will not have Mo, and this team will look nothing like the team did last year. Burke is going to kill it in the pick and roll with Kanter and Favors, and people are going to think Hayward is the new Paul George. I think everyone is going to be surprised at how good the young guys are. If we get some bench players, this team could be pretty darn good.

I hope you are right. I had just hoped for a complete facelift. It will be interesting to see who steps up with our #1 scorer gone.

Ummm, no. Even IF those latter four are all re-signed, the team will be completely different. The offense will no longer run through one person. And Utah will actually have a decent PG for long stretches, whether Burke starts or comes off the bench for half the game initially and then 30+ by midseason. And we'll actually have players at the 5 who will offer resistance on the defensive end.

San Antonio is engaged in serious talks with free agent Marco Belinelli, league sources tell Y! Sports.

Another three point shooter for them.

Paul sucks the guy is a midget and a bumb favors is way better them him. I will be pissed if we sign Paul back specially after he turned down that extension (which was way more than he is worth)

Marco Belinelli - Signs with Spurs (3 year deal)

Gary Neal available now?

Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine about 8 minutes ago

Neal is said to be getting interest in restricted free agency at a price point that San Antonio, to this stage, has been unwilling to match

Strong indications today that NBA Finals hero Gary Neal will NOT be back with San Antonio. Which is why Spurs moved so fast on Belinelli

Yes

Signing Paul to any deal pretty much means the end of Kanter or Favors.

One will bolt if Sap is playing ahead of them, and if he is on this team he is starting.

I've said it a gazillion times. Millsap will be back for less than he made this year.

I'd rather have him sign for the same amount. I know it sounds crazy, but taking a pay cut is a psychological thing. You're getting paid less, so your attitude suffers and the effort is probably less. Rather see the Jazz overpay by a million or two on a shorter-term deal. Perhaps three years, with Millsap having a player option for year 3? He's motivated because he knows he can still get one more contract and his numbers will likely improve due to Al being gone.

Yep.. if we can afford to may be this.

I seriously doubt we ever see this again...

I'd do the same amount with team options for year two and three. That would make sure he stays in line.

But then a part of me wants him to get paid less than Favors and Kanter. That sends a clear message where your priorities are.

I see your point. Reason I suggested player option is it gives Paul what he likely wants...a chance at a bigger payday. "Alfense" really hurt his numbers the pat two years. Give him some motivation and involvement in the offense again and I think we see the Millsap of a few years ago. And I'm hoping in 2 years, Favors is a P&R force and Gobert is ready to play backup center minutes. Then we would just need to sign another PF to play 12-15 mins. behind Derrick. Could even be a combo forward able to stretch the floor.
