Eurobasket 2013

Spanoulis have it all! Greece is very lucky to have a court leader like him not just numbers he is putting in he is doing all the small things as well, when he is in the game Greece playing way different. Schved's late effort wasnt enough for Russia (he scored 15 in about last 5 min.) cause the game already was out of reach and they lose to Greece 80-71. It would be painful to watch Turkey against Greece tomorrow so i wont watch it..

I'll watch it because I want to get cancer and the best way to do it is watching Turkish NT.

You never know, they beat Spain last time in 2011 even if they played like crap before that game as well. Asik matchups well with Gasol and if Turkoglu and Ilyasova are making jumpers it could be much closer than you guys think.

I hope so.

The results of the second day.

Fun fact about Germany's loss: If they advance to the 2nd round their loss only counts in case that Belgium advances too and they lost by 1 vs 2-0 Ukraine already. So in case Germany beats Ukraine tomorrow it's very likely they will advance with a 2-0 record into the 2nd round.
BUT I should really not try to predict games considering how the tournament went so far...

Trust me it will be an easy win for Germany tomorrow.

And Ukraine stays unbeaten by winning vs Germany. That Schaffartzik dude put another double double 22pts/11ast this time. Maybe somebody needs to get him over here? Anytime double assists are reached in international game ( and he is averaging 10 in 3 games!) it is pretty damn impressive as they do not count assists like in NBA where dude dribbling for layup from 3 pt land still gets assist for last teammate who touched the ball before him. Plus game is shorter.

Did you watch a single game with Germany(or ALBA Berlin the last couple years) or did you just read the boxscore?

Schaffartzik doesn't defend!
Schaffartzik plays hero ball!
Schaffartzik is streaky!

Germany simply doesn't have the offensive options, so he can play 40 min of Hero ball. Our 4th offensive option is Niels Giffey, a senior year fringe starter @ UConn. Just to put into perspective how short of reliable offense Germany is. But I think if you add Schröder and Harris the next years they'll look much better and consistent. Plus there's a couple of young guns w/o international recognition up and coming.

I agree with all of this but you must agree that he can distribute the ball at elite level. None of best European playmakers ever averaged 10 assists in Eurobasket. Not Parker, not jasikevicius, not Rubio or Calderon.

I wouldn't bank on that translating on team competition, where defenses are way better organised. All he's doing is running Pick and Rolls all game long and look for the kick out pass. Last year when he Berlin's primary PG injured the ACL, they had 2 PGs left, and neither Wood nor Schaffartzik managed to get a organised offense running.
Parker, Jasikevicius and Calderon have teammates. That's the difference and why they're not averaging 10+ assists.

Lithuania beats Latvia in inside vs outside game. JV with 11pt/10 reb game. Latvia stayed in zone defense all game and attempted 31 3-pointer while being outrebounded 48-26. Reminded me of GSW vs Utah game few years ago. Belgium beats Great Britain in the other game.

Damn, I jinxed it. Sorry BTP.

Don't worry. I'd rather have them out of the tourney in that shape(They basically are YAY :D). I'm too much of a basketball purist to watch a team I'm supposed to root for that consists out of 12 players out of which I totally hate 10 and watch them play miserably bad basketball.

Well that's what I thought before the Belgium game as well.
And probably what France thought on Wednesday...
Spain thought so too and many others had similar feelings.

The difference is all that those teams are either mediocre, slightly worse than mediocre or above mediocre. Ukraine on the other hand was the worst team among the 24 teams by far to me, as I watched their most prep games. I certainly thought that the Israel win was a fluke.

But apparently Mike Fratello finally found some rhythm with his team. Kudos to Ukraine.

That's almost the same way I feel about the Turkey team. It's not about the players on our side(except Hedo) but about our corrupt dictatorship-federation and our government that interfering with the player selections.

Basketball>Turkish NT for me as well.

I think there's multiple teams you can make a case for to be the worst team. But most Eastern Europeans have these shady naturalized Americans(Pooh Jeter for example has played 1 season in Ukraine).
Well next year Germany may nominate Anton Gavel as well(?)
