Following potential 2014 draftees

I'm in no camp on this subject. Randle is crazy skilled.. but I too want to see him play against more elite competition. Favors is a very good player at the level he's at.. but I'm not holding my breath he gets markedly better.

Its a toss up for me.

Indecisive much?????

Offense wins championships.. so I'll have to go with Randle on this one.

One last thing, I see the FIRE in Randle's belly that I don't yet see in Favors. That may come this year as the key is handed to Favors, but Randle just has that HUNGER I haven't seen in a PF coming out of college since LeBron.

i love kanter but i worry about his athleticism the most. This is all hypothetical. I like Kanter, favors, Parker the best.

Kanter not relying on athleticism to best his opponents is precisely why I like him so much. The player that is going to be an effective player into their thirties is the one that adds to their overall game. Karl Malone was a beast for sure but he made it to the finals well after his athleticism peaked. He developed a dangerous mid range game that I can see Kanter emulating.

Well Randle is VERY skilled for a big man. He has a very nice handle that is already much better thsn Favors. He can hit that jumper and even shoot decent 3's.

So if you're implying he's just bullying his way to score then you're wayyyy wrong.

i dont have much confidence in the jazz ability to defend on the perimeter, so trading our best help defender for an undersized PF is a move with alot of risk, too much.

i fail to see why a team hoping for Wiggins then falling out into Randle would be eager to swap for Favors, my gut feeling is theyd be asking for draft picks too.

David Lee averaged 20.2 points and 11.7 rebs on 55% shooting in 09'-10', was S+T'd that offseason for Anthony Randolph, Kelenna Azubuike, Ronny Turiaf and a future second-round pick

i dont see how favors would net so much more, with considerably less production

I'd throw in GSW '14 pick as well to sweeten the deal. We still keep our '14 pick.

Grab Julius Randle & Andrew Harrison.

2 very HUNGRY and extremely skilled guys who have legit size for their positions. Forget about trying to run an offense, these guys would just take guys off the dribble, demand double team, all game long.

LeBron & Wade lite waiting to happen.

I think that discussion was more based around a hypothetical "trade scenario" that solely had to purpose to value the pair of players against each other.

Honestly I doubt even if LeBron, Wade and Bosh all happened to tear their ACLs during a love triangle in preseason that the HEAT would trade Randle away for 2 other lottery picks.
Such a scenario would require a pair of real braindead GM and owner that were so desperate for 1 more shot at the title and intend to sell the franchise after the season anyways and wouldn't care it to take a big loss of value.

Favors + Burke or 17th pick (i.e., GSW '14 pick) for Randle

That's the deal I'd put on the table. The only thing that would change my mind is if Favors/Burke somehow blows up offensively this year. It could happen, but it's unlikely.

I'll admit that I entertained the idea of randle but you are offering way to much with out even seeing this year or how they will compete.

to many on here are low on Burke because of his play in the summer league. relax, step away from the ledge and give Burke atleast a full year.

Remember that dude Kevin Pritchard in Portland? Everyone was raving how accurate his player evaluations were and since Portland was building via draft he fit the franchise.
He was hired in 2003 as director of player personnel, having served prior as a scout for the Spurs between 2001 and 2003. He worked on draftees. There's no official statement on the 2004 impact when the Blazers drafted Telfair over Jefferson and Josh Smith for example. But after being promoted to Assitant GM in 2006 he was instrumental in trading away Telfair. So I guess he wasn't his biggest fan. He received the #7 in that draft and moved up a spot by rewarding Boston with cash to grab that guy named Brandon Roy. Also did he orchestrate the deal with the Bulls that netted them LMA.
1 year before that happened he was vocal for drafting Chris Paul with that year's #3, which GM at the time John Nash overruled and traded down to grab Martell Webster.
Needless to say he was fired in 2006.
In 2007 he did his mistake that eventually cost him his job in 2010. Drafting Greg Oden over Kevin Durant. It doesn't matter that the predominant opinion was to draft Oden. Retrospective it was a BIFF and he got fired over it.
After that he even operated strongly trying to make the best out of the knee problems of Oden.
He got Rudy Fernandez for cash just before he exploded in international competitions. He even had a productive rookie season as a 23 year old before his homesickness and bitterness over his role kicked in.
He grabbed Nicolas Batum in 2008 in a 3 team in which other involved players were Joey Dorsey, Donte Green and Darrell Arthur. Yeah kind of a steal.
He also had a miss by trading 2 spots up from 13 to 11 to get Jerryd Bayless, who was at that point one of the more promising players but never had a breakthrough.

So basically if you exclude Oden he did all the right things. The Brandon Roy knee situation(he was awarded a max extension the summer before his body broke down slowly) was nothing foreseeable and picking Bayless over Hibbert, Ibaka, Hill and Pekovic is nothing wrong imo. Hibbert was a real late bloomer, Ibaka one of these international steals, typical low risk high potential end of the first round pick. Pekovic wouldn't come over immediately, thus he wasn't interesting for Portland looking for instant talent influx.

Now he's back with indiana since last season and everybody's saying he did a terrific job this summer rounding out the roster. He started in Indiana after they traded away Leonard for Hill btw. First year as director of player personnel and since 2012 as GM. Trades include Mahinmi for Dahntay Jones and Darren Collison. Also acquiring Scola from Phoenix in exchange for Gerald Green, Miles Plumlee and a protected #1.

Oh and add to that 1998 Milwaukee Bucks GM Bob Weinhauer(he doesn't even have a wikipedia page) pulled off a trade that netted him Tractor Traylor for Dirk Nowitzki. Needless to say he was relieved of his duties in 1999.

So if you trade a bundle including 3rd option players, 6th men, fringe starters and pure role players against someone, who might make All-NBA 2nd or 3rd team in his 3rd or 4th year, you seriously risk your employment. Most GMs would require to be fired or resign if some owner wanted to pull such a stunt.

Whether or not Favors is a legit 3rd option offensively on a championship team remains to be seen though...

Also it's Burke OR GSW's '14 pick. So if Burke has a decent year this year, don't trade away Burke, but trade the GSW's '14 pick instead. That's actually a better option to go for. Then we'll end up with this lineup.

Kanter
Randle (Favors trade)
Jabari (our '14 pick)
Hayward
Burke

Offensively, that team is gonna be LOADED with FIREWORKS. Randle and Kanter will demand a double team. Jabari on the wing is gonna demand a double team. Hayward and Burke are solid passers and can knock down those 3's.

Kanter-Randle-Jabari trio as the next BIG 3. I can see them as perennial All Stars for years and years to come.

Favors has to develop into that role. Else he'll hurt his teams championship chances if he getts paid north of $10M annually. Most teams can't afford 1 or 2 max players paired with another legit $10M/year scorer and defensive anchor. That's a combined $50-70M depending where the players are in their contract.

But truth is no GM would ever do that kind of trade come June. As I pointed out you get fired over that **** and if rest of your track record isn't awesome you won't get more than a minor role in a FO. So don't even bother making such scenarios. You can speculate over which player will be more valuable, more productive or more successful.
A trade that sends one extremely valuable player for a bundle of (less) talented players only happens if you have serious concerns that you'll lose that player through unrestricted free agency or have locker room incidents with other teams willing to take the risk.

Ridiculous. The dude can dunk from the free throw line:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei1VRfpiuXU

He is also crazy dedicated to being in shape (hence his seafood diet and extreme weight management). Just because Kanter is a block that can't be moved, doesn't mean he can't play above the rim, or that we should worry about his athleticism.

As much as I love Favors, I am much more excited about Kanter. I think the two will match each other perfectly. If we end up trading one, I sincerely hope it's Favors.

Kanter and Hayward are untouchable for me.

interesting take. kanter has great foot work and a nice touch but he doesn't explode to the basket. he will get his shot blocked. I agree kanter and favors compliment each other very well.

It was too hard to find another PF who had the same HUNGER as Randle coming out of College so I choose LeBron. And as you've stated, LeBron's not even a PF coming out of college.

I don't see Randle as a full time SF like Lebron, but I think he will have a similar game to when LeBron plays the PF position. Face up game, quick, fast, strong, can take most PFs off the dribble and finish or draw And-One. Can shoot mid range, can shoot the 3's.
