The more I watch Jabari Parker play, the more I am convinced that he will be the best player in the 2014 draft class. Big question of course is, will he stay in school or go on an LDS mission after being drafted.

Not a question at all. If he was going, he probably would have already left.

Wiggins is behind Parker right now, and Parker would go #1 in almost any other year. But if/when Wiggins gets to Parker's skill level, there will be no question who the better player is.

Predicting who will go #1 right now is dumb.

Wouldn't Stoked's scenario be perfect for everyone?

Celtics get the big name in a big market. Utah gets the Mormon. Phx gets the big who can run and gun with Bledsoe and Hayward.

As a fan I would lament Parkers Choice to go on a mission, But as a person, I would applaud such a decision. I think its great to believe in something bigger than yourself, and though a team can be a manifestation of something bigger than yourself, the sacrifices he'd make to go on a mission would render him nothing short of a remarkable human being. he'd have my respect, if that was his choice.
The purpose of a mission is to introduce others to Christianity and to the LDS beliefs. Parker can do that on a much bigger stage as a member of the Utah Jazz (fingers crossed), Kings, Bucks, etc. He's bound to be asked countless times about his beliefs. There would be articles about how he spends his down time between games (i.e. in contrast to the players who go to strip clubs). There is ZERO chance he serves a mission. Even IF he wanted to turn in his papers, I guarantee you Thomas S. would tell him to play in the NBA and let his light shine to everyone around the world.

Maybe he could serve the Max Hall mission. Go out for a short while, and tell everyone about how awesome your mission was. So awesome, in fact, he did it in 1/4 the time!

I still think the league sets up another Magic-Bird situation by ensuring Wiggins and Parker go to bigger markets. Mark my words...IF the Lakers or one of the NY teams miss the playoffs, one (or both) will end up with a top-2 pick.

No one outside of Utah remembers Max Hall. Jabari will be watched by hundreds of millions of fans around the world.

Meh

The Parker/Wiggins draft reminds me of the Oden/Durant draft. Oden had much more upside but Durant was the sure pick. Wiggins has more upside but Parker has the skills now to be a go to guy in the NBA. I think at this point the Jazz need that SURE THING rather than upside. By next year this team needs to start winning games.

Therefore if the Jazz have the #1 pick they should pick Parker.

That was a crappy draft and Oden was a stupid pick with Durant there considering his long injury history and the fact that one of his legs is longer than the other. This is saying nothing of that the two players were not at all alike and that Oden had very little actual skill to his game.

Atrocious comparison but I'm not surprised.

Must draft Parker because he's Mormon and he's also good at basketball and because Wuggins can't play baksetball yet

Parker needs to have a FANTASTIC year this year to go #1.

Wiggins simply needs to show he can do that step back jumper of his and hit 3's at better than 30%.

Honestly, this. People keep saying that Parker being Mormon "doesn't matter"-- but I definitely have my doubts. I feel like if you polled Jazzfanz right now, 80% would draft Jabari 1st overall.

Even Hantlers the Duke-homer said he'd pick Wiggins first overall.

the Lakers and Knicks would likely be 10-14 before the lottery. If this happened, If one got Parker and the other landed Wiggins, I honestly might stop watching the NBA...

It matters to the FO in a financial way. Having a potential superstar Mormon player in Utah is the sinlge greatest draw of fans since Stockton 2 Malone. Perhaps even greater over time. He fits Utah in every sense.

I am not comparing Parker to any other player here or even saying who will be the better player. I am just saying that Parker in Utah makes sense in every way. Financially, marketability, play style, position of need, skill set, cohesiveness (skill wise) to existing players...

Edit: I am thrilled with either Wiggins or Parker but I think Utah goes with Parker for numerous reasons. One of which is that he is devout LDS.

Let me say something that completely contradicts that..

If I'm the GM, I have to be VERY careful selecting #1. If Parker isn't the clear-cut favorite and you reach for him in the slightest.... the rest of the league/players see that as church before winning. If you doubt that you're delusional.

If I'm Utah I would rather pick 2nd if I want Jabari.

Very true but the Mormon base would love it, so does the FO play to that or not? I also think Utah lands #2. Parker is showing up so far and has moved up to #3 on the draft board (ESPN). I think by draft time him and Wiggins will be #1s and it could go either way.
