What's new

But...like really.....how the **** are we gonna get a star?

The Jazz need to sit Kanter and Gobert and give us more Brickins! Especially in crunch time. More JL3! Get this tank back on track.

Daryl Morey spent years collecting valuable assets in hopes of flipping them for marquee talent. Then he took advantage of a situation in which a team could not afford to pay a star. How was luck involved there?

Good GM'ing in the sense that he prepared himself for the good fortune of Harden becoming avail.

Good Luck in that he was able to steal a star away from a team in a manner that has never before happened in the modern NBA and likely will never happen again.

This is what I do:

Look at SA and copy what Pop has done.

1 - Sit Favors the rest of the year. Have him go hang out with Karl and get freaky fit and an offensive move for next year. We suck without Favors.
2 - Take turns sitting everyone else. Have Hayward and Burks take turns sitting out. One starts one night, the other sits. Then visa versa. This shows you what Burks can be as a starter.
3 - Start Kanter every game. This lets you see what you have with him, and how he fits in with Burks/Hayward/Burke.
4 - Make Beidrens play 25 mins a game. You are paying the guy 10+ million. Make him earn it.
5 - 10 day every PG and SG and SF in the DLeague. Find a gem or two to fill out the roster next year.

This gives you this lineup:

Burke/???/???
Burks or Hayward/???/???
Jefferson/???
Marvin/Evans
Kanter/Gobert/Biedrens

You see what you have with Kanter, Gobert, Evans, and Burks as a starter. Jefferson, you want to go play for a title contender? Well, go show them what you have (lol).

We wouldn't win more than 5 more games the rest of the year with no Favors, missing either Hayward/Burks every game, and I'd even let Burke pull a groin muscle the rest of the year.

I like this plan...... therefore corbin hates it

Unless you can prove injury, the NBA likely steps in. SA has been fined before for merely resting key vets in back-to-backs.

It's fine to ask players to sit out, but the league is going to step in. The players union will file grievances. Curry was legitimately hurt and so was Bogut for the W's. Did they tank? Yes. Was everyone from the owner, coach and players in on the fix? Yes. It was despicable. I don't want Jazz players to intentionally miss shots and throw the ball away (besides, hayward and burke can do that well enough on their own).

The only intervention I'd like to see is for MW and RJ, if not traded, to play less after Feb 20th. And the Jazz should give more time for legitimate player injuries to heal. Maybe Favors needs a week after tweaking his hip. He's hurt it before. Maybe he came back to soon. And if Burke is reporting back pain, perhaps he needs to take off a couple of games. But intentionally throwing games? I can't cheer for any team that does that.

Just so everyone knows, I disagree strongly with the Burks/Maggette comparison, other than getting to the ft line. Maggette was a blackhole that made alfense look like the showtime lakers. Which is why I never understood why Jazzfanz wanted him so badly. Then again, they all wanted Morris Almond Joy who is actually a better comp to Maggette, just not as good at being Maggette except in the DLeague. But I digress.

Burks may have the inclination to chuck, but he's been doing a better and better job of reigning that in as the season goes on. He seems to be a more than willing passer. I guess he does that same thing as Hayward does where they get better as the season goes on after sucking at the beginning.

Maggette was a career 45%/32%/82% shooter who also averaged 5 rebounds and 2 assists in 28 mins/per. For those who love the PPS stat, Corey had a career avg of 1.47. Thats very, very good. And remember, those are AVERAGES across his career. Throw out the first and last three years of his career (learning/declining) and his numbers are truly exceptional. His weakness was his range - never a great 3-PT shooter.

Burks isn't there yet, but he's close in terms of career trajectory. Maggette started to break out in his 4th year and took off in his 5th. We all know Alec hasn't been given the same opportunity, at least not yet.

I wouldn't be surprised to see RJ's mins go down after the deadline and for Alec to get more PT. Burks is a freight train and Corbin better clear the tracks!

Corey Maggette is an unfairly maligned player, IMO. On the right team in the right role he would've been a massive boon (say, as a 6th man on a winning team with an established hierarchy).

The luck of a franchise player being sold for nothing? That luck?

The Pacers are still (probably) the best team in the NBA without a single top ten pick starting for them.

Umm. Besides Paul George.

Go ahead with the obligatory mention of the Spurs too and forget to acknowledge Duncan (that is the sun of that solar system) while you're at it.

Imagine what he would have become if Alvin Gentry had played him more than 25mpg in his third season. If God were his coach...

Favors has already missed time with back problems.

As far as Burks and Hayward goes, guess what? I highly doubt anyone cares what those two do.

I didn't mention Duncan. Yes Paul George was picked 10th. A pick that you won't get a superstar with (he isn't one). The Pacers are the best team in the NBA without a superstar.
