Anyone on here from Idaho?

So my company might be opening an office in Idaho and I have no idea about the state. They want to do the office in Rexburg. From what I know about Rexburg I really don't want to live their. Would it be possible to live in Idaho Falls and commute to Rexburg? Google maps shows it's 30 min away.

Any info you guys could give me and especially living in Idaho Falls would be great. The wife and I aren't too thrilled with the idea :(

Rexburg is basically like Utah. If you're Mormon, you'll fit in. If you're not…you probably won't.

So what's the appeal of Rexburg to your company in the first place? Are you still in the alt-energy business? You guys want BYU-I students to be your sales force?

Vast oversimplification, but mostly accurate. Rexburg is insanely quiet. The church is pretty strong there, and there is next to nothing ever going on. There is a decent amount of redneckery, but not overwhelmingly so. My wife went to Rick's (at the time.....BYU Idaho now) and we have visited many times to keep in touch with friends, and I would never consider moving there, and she wouldn't either. She liked her time in college, and made some very good friends we have both become friends with, and with whom we keep in touch, but there is nothing about the town or the general area that would make us want to move there. In fact I had a job opportunity, oh maybe 10 years ago, in that area, and we decided they would have to offer me somewhere north of 50% more than I was making at the time to make the move. But to each his own. Some people might really like that rural-trying-to-be-a-real-town-like-Logan feel. It just isn't for us.

Exactly, I think I will die if I live in Rexburg. I will be making about 40-50k more than I am now but that is still not really worth it for me. I here Idaho Falls is nice so if I live there and commute to Rexburg I will try and make it work. Does anyone know if that's doable?

I have a buddy who lives in Xberg and commutes to IF every day... he says it is no big deal unless weather is bad then you ahve to be sure to plan cuase that stretch of road can get pretty nasty. also look out for cops, they lie in wait for college kids to drive by going to fast but they wont think twice about pulling someone over such as myself.... (happend twice last year)

its is doable though.... is it desirable?... prob nots.

good luck

By the way, eons ago I was a bit of a groupie of the Famous Potatoes, a basic bar band made up of guys primarily from Idaho. They could really rock the house. They'd hit the Chicago bar scene circuit every few months.

I've spent 2 afternoons in Rexburg. They both sucked.

On the bright side my bro is Mormon and when he lived there he hated it.

Ever seen Napoleon Dynamite? It really isn't far off that.

Places don't suck. People suck. If you don't suck as a person, you can make a place fun.
