Following potential 2014 draftees

Sounds like a good "draft and stash" candidate at #35.

The thing that is really intriguing about him is that at 6'6" he can play the PG position as well. With Burke and perhaps Neto it would be nice to have a little more size at the PG position to come off the bench. His brother Bojan (just kidding) is a pretty good player as well. Rights owned by Nets. Can score, but 3pt shooting not to great this year.

Nor do all the shots that are missed in Trey's case. Dude can be 1-7 but if he hits that final "3" he's CLUTCH and has the makings of an all-star.

Well in 1998 Jordan was 9-26 before he hit the winning shot and everyone calls him clutch.

What do you guys think of Marcus Smart compared to Victor Oladipo? Maybe Smart projects to be a bit similar?

Dipo appears a bit longer and more athletic.

I think that's a pretty good comparison. VO is probably a better shooter (which is sad for Smart), and can jump better, but Smart is bigger, stronger and more powerful. But in terms of big guards who can defend, play some point and struggle shooting it, they are pretty similar.

After reading this thread, I wish the Jazz had 5 second round picks like Philly so we could draft all these sleepers. I think I am starting to get information overload on all these prospects. I want to know where the Jazz are going to draft and I want the draft to get here fast.

is inglis a small forward then I say draft him in the second?

short answer is yes. the long one is he plays a bit of everywhere but he has the lateral quickness to defense SF's and maybe even SG's in the scouting report just posted on DX theres some footage of him moving laterally against guards.

his defense is better than i thought... he reminds me of Ron Artest

I like Smart well enough, but I don't really see the point of playing him off the ball. I wouldn't play him ahead of Burks at SG.

My board FWIW (which is not much)

1) Wiggins
2) Parker
3) Embid
4) Smart
5) Exum
6) Gordon
7) Randle
8) Vonlah

Though I'm starting to be more excited about Vonlah than I was a month ago. I guess that's how it goes with the draft for me, whoever they pick I want things to feel positive about. The only thing that bums me out about Vonlah is that he seems like a project at a position the Jazz are stacked at. Still, people who's opinion I respect seem to like him, which means a lot to a fairly uneducated person like myself.

Smart is up there because I value competitive fire in players. Perhaps I value it too much, and I agree that without skills it doesn't mean much, but over the years it feels to me that the equation of a great NBA player is fire + skills, and it feels to me the Jazz really lack a player that has it. Burke is the closest thing to one the Jazz have now that I see.

I agree with this, and i think the big difference with those two is that smart actually has some of the physical tools to impose that fire on the opposition.

Inglis at 35 (that's our pick, right?) is what I'm hoping for as well. To put it simply, he just moves really well and looks like a basketball player at 18. Combine that with his physical tools and that's exactly what i want in a second round pick.

who has the highest chance at becoming a #1 offensive option of a team with the 5th pick?

Smart is one of the few players who can create his own shot, create for others, AND defend at a high level.

#Marc #Is #Smart

That's a hard question to answer since none of the options seem to have a very good chance at reaching that level of scoring. I'll have to give it some thought.
