"Hey John, you want a boatload of money and the power to run the team?"

"No"

"Hey John, you want less money and less power? You can be teh assistant!"

"....."

I think the conversation is more like, "hey John, we know you don't like the spotlight. But you know we're hiring Messina and he loved you as a player. Raulzinho Neto idolized you growing up. And you worked with Trey briefly last summer. How would you like to come back and be a FT PG coach? BTW, do you have David's phone number? We want to invite him to be on the Jazz' summer league team but we've misplaced his number."

So if John says he has interest is he offered the job on the spot?....Or does he just fall into the other 20 candidates that will be considered.

I'd guess that they wouldn't just offer it to him outright. I think they'd interview him and others. Probably more of a "is there interest" rather than a "do you want the job. IMO anyways.

Wasn't Steve Kerr laughing when that Clark Kellogg guy was screwing with the Jazz name on 2K?

I agree, but if it comes out where the media finds out he has interest and then is interviewed but in the end is not chosen that will put the new head coach in a tough spot, it would always be......"we should have picked Stockton".

Also Locke made the case that the Hall of Fame player that jumped straight to Head Coach has been one of the more successful routes to being a successful coach. The only person that flopped was Magic Johnson.

I think you are right that there will be a segment of the fans that will be pissed if we reach out to Stockton then do not hire him. Will be interesting to see.

I would suspect that Stockton would tell the media that he ultimately wasn't interested if for any reason he doesn't get the job. It's likely the truth.

Show me a list, not sure it works. Who among current coaches is an HOFer? Pops, no, Phil, no. Any other good ones? McHale is so so.

Here is a list of failed "stars" from bleacher report:

Isiah Thomas
Bob Cousy
Willis Reed
Elgin Baylor
Bill Cartwright
Kurt Rambis
Wes Unseld

My point is that we do not know if he is. I do not want the Jazz to take a gamble with this pick. Your assumption that he is is no less a reach then the idea that he may not be.

Also lol about complaing on what you do in damn near every post. You take one word you do not like and try and go off. Attempt at discussion my ***.

Edit: God forbid you just simply say, "I didnt say or mean or say "always". Then just expalin further. Then I could have said "you're right you didn't say "always", Sorry that I cam off that way. I was talking more about the idea then your post specifically. Just trying to show that it is a gamble. One I do not want the Jazzz to take.

But then you wouldn't have anything to complain about. Whatever your problem with me is. Get over it already. Jesus.

I disagree, and I can point to evidence. What evidence do you have for your claim besides the general yarn of "players aren't always coaches"? Srs question.

Maybe Jason Kidd will work his way onto that list.

To my knowledge, the only success had been Larry Bird, and who knows if he could have kept it up?

Locke based it off of having over a 50% winning percentage and at least 200 wins. The list from what I remember was:

Danny Ainge
Mark Jackson
Larry Bird

I can't remember the rest but it here is the link to the podcast:

Wouldn't that by itself limit the list to good, or at least decent, coaches? Why not just any HOF with a certain amount of games as a HC?
