What's new

***Official new head coach search thread*** (merged)

I tried the new sarcasm font there, I guess it still missed.

In real news....

From "Utah’s electric wing stud"

“I’m definitely pulling for Earl (Watson) to get the job(Jazz Headcoach),” Jazz forward Gordon Hayward told CSNNW.com via phone Friday morning. “He’s a great guy and has a great basketball mind. If he did become our coach and I got to play under him, it would be great because I know how hard he’ll work and prepare us. He’s a true professional and I think no matter where he ends up, he’ll be a great head coach in the NBA.”

I'm hoping assistant coach at the very least.

If it's between Boylen and Watson, I'd take Watson.

Stockton as Head Coach, Game Theory and Public Relations

The Millers/ Jazz consideration of Stockton as head coach, the options:
1. The foregone conclusion that they will give hime the job if he wants it
2. Interviewing out of respect, but knowing he'll say no
3. Risking damage to the Jazz brand and alienating the fan base if he says yes and they decide for someone else. They may find a way to save face, but if he is interested it puts them into a public relations bind and pressures them to hire him even if they'd rather have Messina or someone else.

3 is where the risk comes in.

I think Stock will say no, or that his heart would not be really into it, but the move to interview him could backfire.

My (completely unsubstantiated) hunch is that the Millers are driving the Stockton interview and DL is going along to be a good soldier.

RT @hoopshype: Maccabi Tel Aviv, full of American players with no NBA experience, wins Euroleague title over more talented Real Madrid

Atlanta Hawks tried to hire Maccabi Tel Aviv boss David Blatt as an assistant before this season. Only matter of time before he's in the NBA

Why not us?

Why does everyone assume that the millers and DL have different visions? A lot of tin foil hat fodder on these boards lately. DL wants wiggins, millers want Parker. Y'all need to gtfo.

Watched most of the Euroleague final today. Tough game from minute 1-45. Mirotic very passive and Blatt was constantly making adjustments that helped his team. Good coaching especially from a motivational standpoint. Erased an early deficit and kept intensity up for the rest of the game.

Funny sidenote: Tel Aviv's PG Tyrese Rice played last season for Bayern Munich where he wanted to stay but the team opted against offering him a new contract. Now he's Euroleague final MVP. Not such a bad 2nd choice ;)

LOL

I don't think Watson or Boylin are being considered. They're just red meat for the lazy SL media that just eats up whatever the Jazz PR guy says.

It's fine, as long as it creates a smokescreen to hire on someone I really like.

The truth is, Watson and Boylin would kill fan excitement. If the Jazz want to continue to kill season ticket sales then go ahead, hire a joke.

The Jazz are smarter than this IMO. They'll hire on a real coach.

Just curious as I have not been paying close attention, who are your real coaches?

You are very confident

Why do you assume that the Millers and DL have precisely the same vision? Do you think that GMs having different visions from ownership are uncommon? So much so that you overtly dismiss these options with a "gtfo"? You have a lot of confidence in your opinion that the Millers and DL are perfectly aligned, while I am speculating (I said "completely unsubstantiated") that it might be different. Which is a more reasonable position?
