What's new

Initial All-Star balloting returns are in

The good news is that the coaches will put Deron in no matter where he ranks. I also hope Paul goes on another streak and the coaches add him as well.

It's a joke that Gasol and Duncan are listed as forwards.

With Yao maybe done for, for some odd reason, they may be listed as centers next year.

Nice to see the Chinese have totally stuffed the ballot box already for their giant glass man, Yao Ming. How much has he played the last 2 years?? Again, total joke.

I can live with seeing Nash and Kobe above DWill, not that I necessarily agree with the Nash bit, but Manure and CPee3? Just goes to show the power of playing for a team in a larger market.

The All-Star Game and voting is garbage. They need to find a way to select players based on performance only, and provide a few "fan choice" seats for guys that don't make the cut. But this isn't what the ASG is all about. It's about revenue and fan hype.

New Orleans not exactly a big market and to the others about Gasol listed as a forward. Yes, he is normally the Power Forward when Bynum is healthy so cant argue that to much.

New Orleans is not a big market. CP gets too much hype because ESPN has crowned him the best PG since he got in the league. The All-star balloting is bias. Personally, I do not even watch the All-star game because it is a side show.

Yao hasn't played but a few minutes and he has over 400,000 votes, CB has more votes than Kevin Love who is having a historical year.

I voted for DW and he should be the top point guard. The fact that CP has 200,000+ more votes than DW validates the stupidity of the voting.

Good observation my friend.

Yes, and the stupidity of the voters.

chris paul doesn't get that much hype anymore and when he did, it was deserved for years 2007-2009 where he strung together pretty much the two most effective seasons a point guard has ever played in the league

but yeah the all-star voting has its issues, so the answer is to just mark the event as less prestigious than it's marketed as and move on i guess

I hope Yao gets voted in as a starter and is injured, after playing under 100 minutes this season. Maybe it'll show the NBA that fan voting doesn't mean dick.

I think the NBA already knows that fan voting doesn't mean dick...at least as far as picking the best players goes. Fan voting means a LOT when it comes to revenue generation which is all the All-star Game is to the league. It is all about the money...marketing, brand recognition, tickets, merchandise, etc. It has nothing to do with show-casing the best players the league has to offer and the league knows that. For what it is, it does a fine job. It generates revenue. Therefore the format will never change.

And Utah players will always only get in on the coaches vote. We don't have a big enough fan base to vote anyone in. So for the most part we can say that our guys get in because they are recognized by the coaches and other players as deserving. That means a hell of a lot more than the fan vote, imho.

yet his suspect defense gets him 3rd in DPOY awards watch on espn.

really if cp3 is the 3rd best defensive player in the nba. it is a sad day

What a load of crap...
IMO, The five best Western Conference guards (this year) are as follows:

Kobe
D-will
Westbrook
Eric Gordon
Nash

In this order.

CP3 has a sick A:TO ratio. Jazz fans continuously bitch and overlook this. Don't take me wrong. I love just about everything about Williams. He's a ****ing rock solid, winner driven, all-put-gimme-a-championship-if-I-have-to-earn-it-myself son of a bitch. This doesn't make him automatically #1. We got spoiled and Utah traded Stockholm syndrom for Stockton syndrome. In an age of point guards, it is possible D-Will is not the best PG. Rondo, etc. have been nothing short of sick. Don't take that away just to pump air into D-Will's sail.

With all this said, I believe what Deron Williams adds to this team and brings to the table every single game has earned him an MVP discussion. Top five. No doubt in my mind. Williams is about so much more than stat sheets and being the best at his position.
