Grantland Article on Exum, Vonleh and Gordon

It's very interesting. One thing that always annoyed me about a Gordon was his poor screens. Henjust never really set hard screens. One if these scouts is touting that he's an energy player, always setting screens. That's fine, but somebody better teach him how in the NBA.

Vonleh shooting surprised me. I think these guys are young enough that they can learn shooting .

It's. Different league now. You don't get Magic and Bird anymore... You get undeveloped players with the potential to become Magic or Bird. I wish players had to be older to come in.

I say draft Gordon then move up and draft McDermott. perfect combo and 1-2 punch.

I'd support this. I think McDermott can actually be a scorer and not just shooter.

Yea after reading the scout's perspective on the three, I am happy that I have been on the Gordon bandwagon for a while. However, I now am wondering if I should have jumped on the Randle bandwagon. I have never been big on Vonleh. He looks too mechanical and slow to me. With Exum, I just can't evaluate him since he has played so little. I am skeptical because if you can play why are you hiding?

Right now I am ok with either moving up and getting Wiggins or staying put and taking Gordon or Randle.

Just curious. Those of you who think Gordon can become a respectable shooter. What if you applied the same logic to Marcus Smart? With everything else he brings wouldn't that make him a pretty appealing pick?

next Tskitishvili? damn. that's harsh.

Is it messed up that D'Antoni was pumping the guy up when he didn't actually believe what he was selling? It seems like talking to their coaches would actually be pretty worthless at any level across the board unless there are some brutally honest guys out there willing to dish the bad with the good.

1. gordon
2. randle
3. vonleh

for me. we don't need randle because we already have favors/kanter. WE NEED TO IMPROVE DEFENSE.

this is a no brainer.

You don't get college recruits when word gets out that you diss your own players.

Yep. Which is why I'm hoping for Gordon, then Smart, then Randle and last of all Vonleh (assuming of course we can't move up).

still has character red flag and tweener red flag.

fix gordons shot and he has zero red flags

Gordon's my choice also. When you look at what our team needs, defense should be at the top of that list. Defense is our key to success in the West, like the Grizzlies.

To me that's a bit like saying 'fix Sarah Jessica Parker's face and she'd be attractive.'
well he asked the question that if smart and gordons shots were both fixed then would they be equal. i was just answering.

I agree there are concerns with Smart (although I think the character issues are overblown), but why do we only seem to worry about red flags when it's someone other than Gordon. And here we go again with the "if he learns to shoot" argument.
.
This is from Chad Ford this morning. I know it doesn't mean much, but I like Smart, then Gordon.
Chad Ford: I know the Jazz aren't huge fans, but I love Marcus Smart for Utah. I'm not a huge Trey Burke fan. Small, average athletic point guards rarely get me excited. But Smart? I think he adds toughness, leadership and defensive edge to this team that they desperately lack. And Smart's big enough to play together with Burke at the 2 or Burke can back him up from the bench. Aaron Gordon would be another option for them and I like that too, but Smart would be my choice.
