What's new

Dante Exum will suffer the same fate as Enes Kanter.

Jordan and Bryant both became deadeye shooters as they progressed in their careers. If Dante can do the same, those comparisons become much more realistic.

A few things.

1) Exum really, really reminds me of Kobe when he drives.
2) Exum's stats should be taken, at least a little bit, with a grain of salt given that he played in a different league with a different style of play, the same way Euro stars stats never blow us away since they play less minutes, more team ball, etc.
3) Until proven otherwise, Exum is our Savior.

Exum is waaay better than Michael Jordan and there is nooooo waaaay I'll get my heart broken by this kid...:p

After watching more and more games, you can see where the Penny/Kobe comparisons come from. His drive does remind you of Kobe's long strides to the basket. His post game, which he seems very comfortable with, very much reminds me of Penny Hardaway. More and more I don't think this guy is a PG. Sure, he can pass ok, his size allows him to see the floor better and make plays, but he can't make an entry pass to save his life and his passing is not NBA PG quality IMO. I think he'll make a great SG who can create for himself and others. I think he and Trey are going to compliment each other really well.

Like many have already mentioned, he needs to work on his shooting. I don't see him use his off hand much at all, which is a little concerning, but he does like to go left...kinda strange. I think he'll come in right away and be able to get to the hole, but he has a lot of work to do on the other parts of his game.

I can't wait to watch him torch everyone in Summer League.

Yeah, you can see a little bit of Kobe in his drives.

I prefer to think of him as a 6'6" Ty Lawson. Avoid all the superstar comparisons that way.

This still isn't a fair comp. MJ and Kobe had moves that Exum just doesn't have. They also managed to finish those drives by scoring almost no matter what. Kobe was better than Exum in high school and the game was so different when Jordan played that a comparison really can't be made.

Jordan didn't even start for UNC in the beginning of his freshman year which would be equivalent to the stage that Exum is at now. Also, Jordan was listed at 6-5 then. I remember watching the UNC games at the time because Sam Perkins played h.s. ball in my hometown area.

No. They are two different kinds of players. Penny was built physically. Exum is much smaller not as built as Penny was. Exum is quicker, and such where as Penny was physically imposing and super athletic.

yup. penny 2.0? no. lil penny? yes. exum is 6ft 4 1/2 barefoot. Penny could easily be listed at 6ft 8.
he is listed at 6ft 6 w/o shoes in draftexpress. but it's a newspaper listing. i think he could be taller. i would say penny is somewhere between 6ft 6 1/2 to 6ft 7 1/4.

with 6ft 5 MJ, 6ft 6 1/4 reggie, 6ft 7 1/2 scottie. 6ft 8 grant hill

so basically penny standing next to exum will be similar to this. hood is 6ft 7 1/4.

All these Michael Jordan Kobe bryant comparisons are absolutely hilarious.

mj n kobe didnt become superstars once they are born. They are the most hardworking and resillient players ever. Thats what Exum should do, follow the footsteps in that context. But of course it is hard to become such a superstar, every year stars come and go but those ones come only once in a decade or so. Now we have nothing better to do but hope Exum at least will be an allstar and maybe even better if he works enough.

These threads are getting to be an embarrassment for this board. Imagine if other team fans came here and saw these ridiculous comparisons? Oof. It's like jazzfanz's name should be changed to clutchjazz. Yeah, I said it.

Basketball was a game without a 3pt line and all the rules that increased spacing. It was a completely different game. MJ may not have ever became who he is without the evolution of the game. So like I said not a fair comp. And... he absolutely did start. He started the first game his freshman year.
