Excited for Team USA moving forward,

Jones, Johnson, Yedlin, Green all young kids who played awesome this World Cup!!!

Look forward to the team playing even better in the next World Cup.

Watching us to down tore open a wound that had been scabbed over since the 08 playoffs. I thought we had a legit chance at moving forward. I actually cared. Seeing us fight back to actually score was awesome. Howard's game was motivating. It should have been good enough for the W.

I truly hope this World Cup experience brings in boat loads of money into soccer. I'm down with the over exposed and concussion racked NFL to go down a lil bit. I'd love to see us join the rest of the world and maybe win a cup sometime in my lifetime. If MLS can get more and more money, then it will attract more and better athletes.

Unlike basketball, soccer doesn't require you to be 6'5"+ and jump out of the gym. Unlike football, you don't have to be on steroids. There's a certain ruggednees in soccer yet not too brutal. I think a lot of athletes who dream of being in the NBA or NFL might find success in soccer.

A guy like Tebow will never be a good NFL player but might have been an animal at soccer. Reggie Bush will never be an elite RB but would be a joy to watch in soccer. A guy like Brewer has a jacked up elbow and couldn't ever shoot in the nba. Yet, he might have been an incredible soccer player. Hell, let's just admit it, Russell Westbrook will never lead a championship team at point guard because he's not capable of running a team good enough. He's a SG playing PG. But he'd be a bigger nastier Neymar if he had devoted his time and energy to soccer. Run and attack the ball is what he does best. He wouldn't have to worry about running an offense. Russell find the ball and outrun everyone to shoot a goal.

And unlike American Football, Basketball and Baseball, there are plenty of Soccer leagues around that are way better than yours. The MLS will hopefully get a lot better, but I can`t see them compete against The Premier League or The Primera for the next couple of centuries at least.

Not until the next generation.

The NFL is the king here. However, it's in decline. It has become way overexposed, games are even being played on Thursday (worst idea ever) and the more we find out about concussions, the scarier it becomes. If football goes into decline then soccer IMO, is the natural void filler. It's safer, a much more level playing field, and is popular globally (and America is becoming more and more global each day).

I'm a die hard football fan and literally bleed pigskin. But if I had children right now I'd be lying if I said that I wouldn't think twice about my kids playing football. I would. Oh must definitely, I would. And I would definitely forbid them from playing certain positions. RB is completely off the table.

Now, if I had a child wanting to play soccer, I would have zero concern whatsoever. Just as long as the coach wasn't some weirdo pedophile.

usa gots lots of respect in loval news here.

they opened the eys of local media.
soccer experts/journalist all where in awe of what usa did. and especialy the goalie

Please tell me why 35 is too old to be a goalie? He's not running all over the place.

If all Malone had to do was stand in the paint and play defense, he'd still be in the nba and probably still be tricking fools with his slap down and pulling the chair.

Keepers have to be fairly explosive to make tough saves. Positioning and reflexes only get you so far.

Jens Lehmann was the German goalie in 2006 at age 36, almost 37. 2 years later at the EURO 2008 in Austra/Switzerland he had his last appearance. Then he continued to be a good goalie in the German league until almost age 41.

Watching game highlights of the teams I was wondering about, including USMNT. I would say the US team was exactly what I had thought they would be. Decent enough(very solid in Germany and Portugal game) on the defense and letting the opponent play the game while looking to hurt the opponent with the contra attacks(fast breaks). Which is a good strategy for them I believe because they lack the players in the middle field to keep the possession and ball to control the game. It was about the same in the prep games too. This kind of game strategies are always considered good for world cup like tournaments and I think it really worked for the US team. Plus I'm really glad that thanks to them Portugal couldn't advance, though I'd want Gana to advance as well.

Nevertheless, it was a great tournament for the US and I hope it brings more popularity and helps against the bias towards soccer in the States.

As for the goalkeepers, and Tim Howard, goalkeepers are actually the ones that can play well into their late 30ies in Soccer, there are many great goalkeepers that played even in their early 40ies. So in my opinion, Tim Howard can at least be the back up goalie in the next world cup without a problem. Because he's already proven that he can be a great goalkeeper in his 35 so he can do it 4 years later too if you guys can't replace him or in a case of injury of the future goal keeper of the USMNT.

Btw, I fast read the thread and the winner of this thread is, without a doubt, UGLI Baby. There were lots of great posts by him, I'll certainly rep some of them when I can. I didn't know he was a knowledgeable soccer fan. My props to him.
