To hell with brick layer Hayward.

He's so mentally weak and sucks at shooting.

Get us a more athletic and taller Korver, Chandler Parsons.
 
I do think Hayward will play better under Coach Snyder. But I don't want to pay him what he hasn't earned. Last year he didn't sign an extension with the Jazz 'cause he wanted more money so his play was supposed to wow people into more money. But it was underwhelming. And the team lost a lot. Tony Jones thinks Hayward is on the same level as Kyle Lowry so he should be paid the same, but Lowry led his team to the playoffs. Hayward didn't. I really think Hayward shouldn't get more than 7M. But that ain't happening. I don't think anyone's gonna give him a max contract, nor anything less because the Jazz will just match. He tried to play himself into more money but he should get less than they offered him in the first place. But whatevs. I just don't like him.

But I'm glad Snyder's the coach. Things are looking up.

In a perfect world Hayward gets 10M. I'll be fine with 12M though. Hayward as a third option is pretty damn good though if Exum becomes a star. Wish he had one more year on his rookie deal.

You guys all seem to forget that this year's dramatic increase of the salary cap is just the beginning ... unless you guys have some new bankers who gave out bad credits to cause the next economy crisis.
Nearly every 5 year deal will look cheap in year 5 when the cap surged a lot. At least for guys who finish their first extension in their 20s :P

I'm not forgetting anything. I'm one of the few who has posted about the projected 2015/16 cap and new TV contract coming in a couple years.

The cap's not going to go up by 50% over the next 3 years. Even if it does, a player worth $8mm in 2014/15 would be worth $12mm in 2017/18. The last year on an other team max 4-year deal with max raises for Gordo comes in at just under $17mm.

I didn't address you, even though I posted below you, as your post was clearly pro overpaying Hayward. I know you're another guy like me who likes the number aspect of being an armchair GM.

But there are others who prolly think the cap was stable until now. Now it's a 10% increase to last year and that can't be maintained because the NBA is such an old league and it doesn't reflect the economy. In reality it's a little bit different.

The contract is undervalued and expires after 15/16. So we would see the jump in salary cap for the 17/18 summer. But it was already implied that the NBA may choose increasing numbers over the duration to steadily stabilize the salary cap instead of forcing teams into a situation where everyone gotta be ready to spend huge cap space in 2017 for big free agents(It also looks like LeBron won't be available in 2017, unless he gives up his bird rights and has an ETO/PO for 2017. KD definately won't be there, poor KD. Anthony Davis also won't be there :p These teams are lucky!)

I always thought that New York's "No Boozer" stance was a sign that they're willing to negotiate but want to maximize returning assets(Mirotic + 2-3[including Sac '15 #1] future firsts + Boozer for Melo S&T)

But if they sign Mirotic early they can't trade him without his consent.
 
I hadn't thought about the precedent set by Lowry's contract. Good point. I don't know how you pay Gordon more money than Lowry.

But, then again, maybe Lowry struck too soon. Gordon will wait until the teams lose out on Melo/Bron and try to capitalize on a moment of price insensitivity.

The market for players is a wildly fluctuating one.
 
I'd rather pursue Luol Deng who is seeking around 12M than giving a max to Hayward. Deng brings more things to the table, especially defensively, and along with veteran leadership.

If I still want to spend more money, then I'd go after also Aminu to set the SF position for good. They improve the Jazz both offensively and defensively more than Hayward could do on his own. If I'm worried about 3 point shooting, I'd consider another 3 pt shooter SF instead of Aminu, like Garcia who is also a great veteran or Mike Miller or Anthony Morrow etc.
 
I'm sure the jazz know better than anybody if Rush has anything left in the tank. If they think he does, then he'd be worth bringing back.
