I'm still worried about defense. Aren't you?

A ton of defense is coaching. And with what we've seen of Burke's improved defense in SL, and the potential that Burks, Exum, Hayward, Ebanks (hypothetically), Favors and Gobert have, no, not at all. Those are seven guys that could all play real solid defense if not great. Eight if we think Hood can be a good defender.

Likewise, if Ebanks could be a 3 and d guy, we'd have him, Novak, Hood as well as Hayward, Burks, and Burke to stretch the floor. Heck, maybe even Kanter too though I'm not holding my breath.

That's more three-point ability, versatility, and defense than we've had in quite some time.

We have to be worried about defense while we still have starters that can't play defense.
Is there a single team in the league that doesnt have someone starting who is not a defender?

you can raise the quality of your defense -- overall -- by stocking your bench with a few defensive specialists, teaching the principles, and making your starters very accountable. If you get yanked and replaced by a specialist, practice with that guy everyday, etc... you'll become a better defender.

Sounds good on paper. Players like Boozer and Al have ruined me to that idea. Thibs putting Gibson in for Boozer when it counted tells me he didn't ever learn to play defense even though he had plenty of specialists on the team. It has theoretical chance of happening, but it doesn't mean it will happen.

I see your point, but am very skeptical... but if it's going to happen it will be a young player that can learn it over someone that's been in the league a while.

Who on the spurs would you say can't play defense.

Also keep in mind I said can't play defense, not was a great defender.
Who on the jazz cant play defense

Who on the jazz cant play defense

debatable, but kanter, burke... luckily rj is gone this year. I still have hope, especially with a new system but I was starting to lose hope many of them could play defense after last years debacle.

Things are looking better, but I'm still concerned.

I hope they prove me wrong.

I hope you're right. But I think we'd both feel better with a specialist or two, no?

Boozer has always been incredibly undisciplined. Look at what the same system did for Korver. While he was never as bad at defense as most claimed, his time in Chicago was obviously good for him.

The 3 primarily but he's strong and long enough to defend a good amount of 4's and to a lesser degree, 2's.
I want Tomic. He'd instantly be the best passing big that the Jazz have. They have the money to buy him out, and still add another player or two if they want to.

What the Jazz really need is a defensive wing who can guard LeBron, Melo or Durant at the end of a game. I just don't think that they have that guy right now.

Does anyone? One guy can't guard these types of players. You have to double team them and force them to pass out of it or take a bad shot.

Hence, Ebanks.

I was surprised Ebanks didn't get picked up last year. I like him more than all of the non guaranteed scrubs we have right now. He reminds me of Ariza on D, but he's not much of a shooter.

I just don't see how this guy should be on our team.

First of all he's too old, and I didn't even know he could ball.
