Jazz players at the World Cup

Klay got lit up by Garcia. I think his defense might be a tab overrated.

6-14 , 50% TS%, 50% eFG% isn't lit up in my world, but sure. I haven't watched the game, but I watched a lot of Golden State playoff games and he was okay, mostly doing what he's supposed to do, didn't lose focus very often. So I stay with my playoff observation of solid.

What I find funny about the USAB teams prospect is that it will make or break Harden's public reputation.

In a final matchup against Spain, he's head to head with Rudy Fernandez. Fernandez is faster, more athletic and more experienced than he is. Harden is a smart attacker, but Fernandez will get as many whistles as Harden and if he is horribly outplayed that will take HarDE(n)FENSE to another level. People will watch.

John Wall would have helped there. He could have defended 2 guards. I have been really hard on Wall in the past but in the 2nd half of last year he really got a lot better.

So who's gonna defend Fernandez? Their PGs are all 2 small or don't play defense/can't play defense.

Klay has a reputation as a engaged solid defender. But will he get enough playing time with Harden on the roster? The 3s on the team aren't that awesome as well. Will be fun.

Fernandez is faster and more athletic? I don't think so. Harden is lazy in the NBA but for one game I think he will crank it up. And turn that around-how in the world would Rudy guard Harden?

Yea, Thompson didn't guard him the whole game. I can't blame you for relying only on the boxscore though.

nope. Rudy getts whistles. You'll see that. Harden won't get FIBA whistles like in the NBA.

Hayward is just below average to just above average in everything he does, he has no elite skills. On teams like this you need to excel at something as everyone needs to play to their strengths. You either have to be a good shooter, good rebounder, good at running the play and setting up teammates, good shot blocker, good at driving and drawing fouls, or defensive specialist. Just my opinion.

Personally I think that 1-3 jack of all trades players is needed on a team like this. Everyone is a big name star that wants to be the man. You need a couple guys willing to role play and make the team cohesive. Hayward could do that for this team.

Anybody else getting the neg train from AKMVP? He's just lurking and he's been negging me a lot lately becuase I want Hayward to make the team. Such a sad existence for AKMVP.

Did I mention that Exum is great! Go ahead and neg this one too AKMVP.

Maybe it's just you. Over the past few weeks I've gotten reps from AKMVP questioning what I said in post - but they were both pos reps.

You may be right, I don't know. I do think out of all the perimeter players on the team that most teams would prefer Hayward to take the outside shots. I could see teams not playing him very tight and daring him to take wide open outside shots, so he needs to make those if he makes the team. Even if he makes the team I don't see much playing time for him. By playing players like Korver, Curry, Thompson, and Lillard, your opening up the inside game for the bigs.

You have a good point but it is not like Hayward is a horrible outside shooter. Even after shooting 30% from 3 last year he is a 36.5% 3 point shooter. That tells me there is more to the story then suddenly him not being able to shoot, they wont sag off him to much. Also the inclusion of Hayward will not prevent all shooters from making the team. For example it is very posible to still have Lillard and Thompson/Korver on the team. Plus Curry is a lock.

Also everyone is pissed at coach K for not playing Hayward very much. Could it be that out of the buble guys Hayward has the inside track and Coach K is taking an extra long look at the other bubble guys (Parsons, Korver, Drummond, Derozan, Lillard...)?

Quite possible. I do think Hayward will shoot a lot better from 3pt range this year. Every other year he has had a decent 3pt fg%. Now if he could play a stretch 4 position in some of the games when they go with a smaller lineup that might help him make the team. I did not see the game yesterday to see if they tried that or not.

I did not see it either but I do know that the coaching staff for team USA had mentioned that Hayward could play some time at the 2-4 in international play. So they have at least considered it.

Neto is in.. Gonna post updates in this post.

Nice drive collapses the defense on him and he kicks it for the corner 3.
Drive and pop at the FT line - scores.
Great handle and outlet pass but his teammate misses the layup.
Another good pass inside for Verejao, who misses the reverse layup. Neto's out.

Huertas is such a clown! He's pretty skilled but he's overusing those tricky dribbles and passes. If I were his coach he'd be out everytime he tries an unnecessary flashy play and it fires back on him.

Halftime - Brazil is leading 38:25. Brazil's bigs are shutting down Valanciunas and Montejunas, something Australia had real hard time doing. I don't know exact statline for Neto, he scored his only shot, made some good passes.

Huertas already has 4-5 stupid turnovers in about 10-12 minutes of play. I wonder if Neto actually has a chance to oust him out of the starting lineup... and just as I say that, Huertas scores twice in transition. lol.
Neto back in with 2:48 left in the third.
Fourth quarter. Drew 2 fouls in defense.
Keeps the dribble in the paint nicely, gets into great position, but misses the floater.
Neto with an assist for a 3.
I love how he keeps his dribble under pressure. Makes a good drive by keeping his dribble, sees an opening under the rim but misses the reverse layup.
Real bad miss on a 3. Doesn't even hit the ring.
He's playing the Exum in the corner role now with Huertas on the floor. Steps out of bounds when he gets the ball at the corner. Neto out.
Lithuania made a great comeback to win 64:61.

I hate to admit this because I know I'll be flamed but for me, with what I see as obvious limited potential (height and athleticism) for Burke and such rawness in Exum, I'd love the Jazz to just say **** it, bring Neto over, and hand him the keys to start.

I also know this is beyond absurd though. A man can wish though, can't he?

I would be down with that.
Neto seems to be a true pass first point guard

Neto looks solid. But he has some flaws and limitations that I don't think will allow him to ever be the starting PG for a good team. I think he can be a great second option for the Jazz.
Also, more on bringing him back - he just signed 3 year deal in Spain a month ago after spending time training with the Utah Jazz staff in Utah, this summer. I think there is a reason for that string of events unraveling like that. I think Utah has no intention on bringing him anytime soon. I think they are keeping him as a possibility for when Burke's contract runs out and he asks for more money than we are willing to give a back up PG.
