What's new

Jazz players at the World Cup

His offense surely is raw but you got to give him 30 minutes to develop it. He literally owned the boards today and that was against as good a big man line-up as he will see in the NBA. He wasn't giving ground to Marc Gasol either, and that guy is as strong as they come. He also was catching some fairly difficult passes and getting his hands on richochets off the rim that were anything but easy to handle. I think you might be underestimating what he can bring this year.

I remember an interview with Ty talking about playing Gobert versus Brook Lopez (I think), where Ty said that if you put him in a situation like that against someone with that type of strength, will just demoralize Gobert. What a difference a year makes.

You mean now that Ty is not here to say demoralizing things? I agree. ;-)

That's why I think DL will tank it "1 more year" and grab Karl Towns.

How can DL tank it one more year?
1. Brought in Snyder.
2. Drafted Exum and Hood
3. Strengthened the bench
4. Burke and Gobert no longer rookies.

Regardless of who starts and who comes off the bench, Utah has 9-10 quality players. I guess you could "hope" Hayward would have another miserbale year, Utah would need to use Murry as starting PG and Hood would be as bad defensively as RJ, but that's expecting a bit much. Jazz are young, they won't make the playoffs. But to think they're going to get a pick in the 3-5 range is just not realistic, IMO. I see them in the 10-14 range.

In that Croatia game, the French coaches gave up on him way too fast. He only played 12 mins. And he wasn't even in foul trouble. I think he would have played much better once he got a better feel for things. But they threw that 6'7" Petrus guy in to guard Centers once Rudy made any mistakes.

That Pietrus guy is just the captain of defence for France for nearly 10years.
He will never produce stats but is always there to help team (sometimes by punching lull's face ...)

This will be an interesting year. We lost Lucas, Marvin, Jefferson. We gained Exum, Hood and that other PF. Exum is an upgrade, but probably not much (for this year). Jefferson is most likely better than Hood (for this year). Our new PF is probably a wash with Marvin. So, in those cases, we are worse than last year. We don't know is Snyder is better/worse than Corbin.

What will probably make or break this year is the development of Our young guys. If they take a step forward, we might win 35. If they don't, we might win 25.

Either way, we won't be that good next year.

I'd be shocked if we are in the 10-14 range. I think we are much closer to 1-5 than to 10-14. Rookies are rarely if ever upgrades over veterans, especially with how raw Exum looks. A lot of the players we strengthened our bench with play at the same position(Novak and Booker) or are extremely young and inexperienced(Murray has played only 1 year and played an average of 7 minutes per game in 51 games), Felix has played 38 minutes for the whole season last year. Burke could be improved but I wouldn't hold my breath after seeing his SL. Rudy is a great hope, but again, he'd have to compete for minutes with Kanter and Favors. I don't know how that would go. Snyder is an improvement, but I don't know how much of a change he can bring in his very first year as a head coach.

All in all, I do think we are in the running for top 5 pick.

its just 1 game guys, get down on earth, gobert is nowhere near kanter nor favors

Closer than you think: neither Kanter nor Favors are exactly All-Stars, nor do they often dominate games like Rudy just did. While Favors is fairly proven, I don't see him being more than average. Kanter could be better, but he better learn to play some D and pass, or he will be relegated to a bench player in this league. Rudy is never likely to be too good on offense, but if you can shut down the paint, that is a big deal.

Gobert really played well. He stood up to Gasol, and really shut him down in the 2nd half. I watched the whole game, and just couldn't believe how much he played.

The german commentators kept raving about him. His stuff of Gasol in the 4th was epic. He stuffed Rubio too. It was great! He is running like a deer, and really showing some signs of improvement.

Agree. Right now I see Kanter/Favors starting and Gobert being used with Booker or Novak at the 4 and Hood at the 3. That would give the Jazz decent shooting to go along with Rudy's dominant inside presence.

Regardless of how he does it, Quin Snyder has some quality toys to play with this year. Even as raw as he is, I still can't figure out how Rudy played sparingly for this Jazz team last year. For all of Corbin's obvious shortcomings, not even trying with Gobert, Kanter and Burks (in a tanking year nonetheless) is right up there with his worst decisions.

Rudy's an effing beast! It's hard not to be excited about him. I'm pretty happy with everyone in World Play except for Exum. That boy needs to get to Utah and start getting his *** into shape. Gobert, Neto and even Tomic all have looked pretty good in this tournament. At the very worst, the Jazz have some nice assets to work with in Neto and Tomic. I bet both of them are NBA bound next year (if they stay healthy.)

Coach Nick breaks down how France broke down Spain's defense:

I've noticed that if Rudy gains some early confidence that his game raises to a higher level quickly. He gained that confidence with those two early dunks during the Spain game.

Rudy is not a primary focus for the other team and it seems easy for him to just be a filler guy. If he gets a chance to stand out it seems like he wants to remain that focal point.

I'm interested to see if France/Utah get him active early so that he can make his mark felt in the game.

Rudy looked like Hibbert out there. Completely stifling penetration, and clobbering most of the post-ups sent his way. It was awesome seeing the PGs of Spain (all of whom with incredible experience mind you) circle in and out of the paint.

I'd love love LOVE to see Gobert take on America.

Suck it Gasol! You greasy *******!

The announcer's reaction is awesome. I laugh every time I listen to it. Rudy makes a great play. It is plays like this that get me excited about watching him play this year. Rudy has a chance to be a cult hero if he plays defense like he has this summer in the NBA.
