Kanter restricted Free Agent

https://t.co/agiN0tXJzT

Woj reported that Kanter will be a restricted Free Agent! What do you guys think? Do you like this or nah?

So since there is no report on Burks, like there is for kanter, could that mean that its more likely a deal is being worked out with burks?

Expected. He needs to have a hell of year to make the Jazz want to match whatever he's offered in the summer. I just don't see it.

I think the jazz will try with Burks. But, like Hayward, I expect this to go into RFAgency.

Probably right

Regardless of this news, this season most probably will be the last year for Kanter with the Jazz.

It's sad to me since I believe the Jazz will be on the rise with or without Kanter from now on. But with the bad luck and the bad agent Kanter has, I bet he will end up on a stupid eastern conference team under another horrible coach, after Corbin.

I think we all expect this. He would have to play extremely poor this year for his value to decline. If he just improves a little someone out there will probably offer him big money. My concern is that Quin's system will improve his rebounding and scoring numbers just enough to entice a team to give him $15/year.

If there are interested teams scouting him... we should find out who they are and see if they'll make an offer now.

As far as Burks I think it will be important to try and get something done. I could see him gunning (as any of us would with the money on the line) for numbers rather than just playing ball.

There's no doubt Kanter is going to make serious money for his career,he's only 22 with a huge upside ...his ceiling is higher than both Favors and Gobert whether anybody likes it or not
This is an offensive league ,not a defensive league ...San Antonio destroyed that defense 1st mentality ,all headlines were about their offense .....Kanter will get into a groove and it won't stop.Right now he's adding a long range game to his inside game .Utah will be a minor league team developing young talent for title contenders if they develop Kanter into being a 20/10 player and let him go .

lol

Entering the 2014 Finals, the 2000-01 Lakers were the last team to win a championship after ranking outside the top 10 in defensive efficiency in the regular season.

They still are.

...With better defenders and a better focus, the Spurs went from 11th in defensive efficiency in both ’10-11 and ’11-12 to third last season. Not coincidentally, they got back to The Finals for the first time in six years and came within six seconds of winning a championship.

This season, they brought back their core (and the best defensive lineup in the league) with one more year together in their system. Though no player averaged 30 minutes per game, they again ranked in the top five in defensive efficiency. And in the Western Conference playoffs, they got those “stops on demand,” holding the offenses of both the Portland Trail Blazers and Oklahoma City Thunder well under their regular season efficiency marks and setting up a Finals rematch.

I think his upside is less than both players.

San Antonio was one of the top defensive teams in the league during the regular season and the postseason... they were also a top offensive team as well. Why are they the top defensive team? because both of their starting bigs (Duncan Splitter) are top ten big men defenders according to defensive real plus minus... they also pass the eyeball test. Why are they a top offense? Part of the reason is their bigs are great passers... there are a host of reasons, but this is a big one. Kanter fails both of those tests hard. Not saying that is the formula someone has to follow, but the argument for Kanter shouldn't really include SA in it.

Kanter's upside is Boozer in his prime... if he can shoot the 3 that will change, but we've seen nothing to indicate that he can shoot the 3.

I can show you 10 headlines to how San Antonio's offense dismantled Miami's degfense to any headline you can show where San Antonio's defense beat Miami .I never said that San Antonio didn't play some defense .Over and over you heard Popovich imploring San Antonio to push the pace ,not slow the ball down to play defense .Snyder will be doing the same

If Kanter develops into a 20/10 player, the Jazz will GLADLY match any offer he receives.
If Kanter turns in another season like last, the Jazz will offer the QO but gladly move on if another team signs him to a big deal.

We keep hearing about his "ceiling." Frankly, I think that ceiling has been lowered every season as he's failed to improve significantly. Sure, he has some "Al-like" moves underneath, but he's inconsistent. He's strong on the offensive glass, but doesn't get defensive rebounds. He's a matador inside who doesn't protect the rim and has feet of stone. Enes' huge "ceiling" might be as a backup big...not fast enough or with the range to be a starting 4 and not tough in the paint to be a starting 5.

I don't base my evaluations of Jazz players based on headlines and random clips they play from coaches in huddles of other teams. Also, Kanter is not really a push the pace type of guy... I doubt Kanter could have played any minutes in that series for either team last year.

I agree the traditional grind it out, make the game ugly strategy is currently not en vogue (except in Memphis), but the fact that SA was a good offensive team doesn't make me believe Kanter is more valuable than Favors or Gobert. Big men have much more opportunity to affect the game on the defensive side of the ball than the offensive side of the ball.

The other issue with Kanter is he puts up some nice numbers occasionally but all the advanced stats say we are waaay better on both offense and defense when he is off of the floor. We were really bad with Kanter on the floor on offense... part of that is the Ty Corbin effect, but part of that is on Kanter.

Right now his floor is Zaza Paculia and his ceiling is Boozer with more range. I think he may be closer to Zaza unfortunately. I hope he proves me wrong... I like him... he seems like a good guy.

I've always been a Kanter supporter, but with Gobert improving quickly, I'd be more willing to let Kanter go (if a team offers him a max deal and the FO doesn't feel he's worth that).
