Burks 4 year $42 million extension!

You honestly don't think this team is bad because they've only played two games and there is nothing else to go on? Nothing at all?

Jazz are lucky they can throw max money at one guy this summer. Let's hope they convince someone to come to town.

I think they're a 30-34 win team.

I think we're finally pointing the ship in a good direction, after having suffered through the worst water-treading in the franchise's history.

The homer in me says this is a fair deal. But realistically we're paying him a bit too much. But im pretty sure this contract begins at the same time the new tv deal comes into play with around an $80 mil salary cap. I've said this last year that burks could be a dorazan type player for us (stats are very similar). Derozan's contract is aroung 15% of the salary cap, while this new burks contract would be (with new tv deal) around 13% of the cap. So there's that.

The problem is that Derozan has been proven to help his team win games, burks hasn't necessarily done that yet.

All we can do is hope burks continues to improve, and shows that he can play in this system. AND WIN. Hopefully this contract deal lifts the stress off his shoulders.

Haterade really kicking in, drop it down man. It's really getting annoying.

I doubt you'll stop obliterating every single burks thread into unreadable jibberish. Prove me wrong. Please.

I make you a deal.
I will stop posting so much info about burks if you stop posting so much hate about jazz players and the team, cy stops being argumentative in 90% of his posts, and naos stops being rude/insulting.

A lot of us on this message board are somewhat repetitive with our individual "schtick"
Sorry that you cant handle me being positive about one of our jazz players as it goes against everything your schtick is about.

Hope you can get over it though. Keep your head up

I'm sure that's your intention.

You're lame.

I might stop posting about burks, but can you not be a dick? Doubt it, that is your schtick

To the Burks haters... what is the absolute highest price you would have resigned Burks to?

Fish, it really seems like you highlight the aspects of Burks's game more than any other Jazz athlete-- and you tend to be more critical of other players when they screw up than when Burks does.

Now that in and of itself is fine-- we all have our favourites. But you jump in every thread, and it feels like you assert every shortcoming of Burks game to a factor outside of his game.

It's legit impossible to speak critically of Burks without you jumping in. He's not a perfect player-- at all. For every franklin (who trolls) there's probably 4-5 people who actually like Burks, despite their propensity to criticizing him.

Pretty much everybody outside of Jazz land thinks we overpaid. I tend to agree.

By how much though? I think $8M would have been a steal.. We got him at $10.5 per and it feels high... I just don't think there is a big difference.

Lets say he goes to restricted FA and one of the teams with massive cap space offers him $15 M per to get him to jump. I think it was a good gamble... too many teams with both a need and cap space.

This also helps him just play instead of gunning for numbers (not accusing him of this, just saying it would be natural for a guy in his position to do it).

Good point. And the fact he didn't gun for numbers in the first two games and played within the system probably got DL to up his final offer a little.

It's ridiculous to think that in 2016-17 we could have hayward, favors, Gobert, Burke, burks, hood and exum and still have room for a max guy and some role players. If maybe we trade kanter for a pick and add another guy too.

We payed a lot, but it is only overpaying if he doesn't continue improving.

Definitely, and I readily admit it

Depends.
I have agreed that his defense has sucked many many times. I have been very critical of his free throw percentage. I have said many times that he needs to improve his shooting (he has by alot, could still get better though.... but I don't think he will ever be a great shooter)

If someone says derozan is a better shooter or takes alot more threes then I might disagree.

If someone says Burks HAS to shoot more threes to be able to score 20 pts per game then I will disagree.

Sometimes I argue when people criticize Burks. Sometimes I agree with the criticism.
Sometimes I see both sides.

My bad?

What happened to all the new TV deal talks?

I think this is not that bad of a deal. The Jazz probably and finally made their choices out of the core 4 over the last two years by signing with Favors, Hayward and Burks. All three are overpaid to some degree in my opinion but all three are reasonable investments on potentials of already-good players. The Jazz organization seems thinking to add Gobert and Exum to this mix and this is a good plan to me on the mid/long term. Kanter looks definitely not part of the plans anymore and Burke is questionable.

One thing I have always hated about burks is when he picks up his man 35 feet from the basket and presses him. No need to guard the guy way out there and you are setting yourself up to get blown by.

He was doing this in the Houston game against harden and I was in the crowd yelling "back off, back off"

jazz knows how to make their players happy. 10.5 M per a year is insane for a player like Burks. It must be destiny of small market teams to overpay average players.

Also I hate it how he will throw a bullet pass to a guy that is close to him so his teammate has a hard time catching it.

He did that in the second half of one of his pick n roll plays when favors set a pick (which burks used) and then rolled to the hoop and burks threw the pass way too hard and it resulted in a turnover.

In the dallas game there was a play where burks was attacking in a semi fast break situation and was going full speed toward the hoop and simply lost the ball. Sometimes his handle is too loose. though I think overall he has pretty good handles. At times its hard to control the ball running full speed through traffic
