2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

I personally guarantee Sheppard will not be available at 10. There would be a better chance of Jesus Christ himself falling to 10.

Let's say ATL takes Sarr.
Washington takes Clingan (I wouldn't, but maybe they would).
Houston probably takes Risacher as BPA.
Spurs take Topic to be their PGOTF.
Detroit takes Buzelis or Williams probably.
Charlotte takes Castle or Holland probably.
Portland takes Williams, Buzelis, Holland, or maybe Castle. Maybe Portland takes Sheppard?
San Antonio probably takes Salaun, but could take a different wing.
Memphis is shopping their pick. Maybe Reed goes here, but it's not a given.

Incidentally, the best thing that could happen for the Jazz would be if Detroit falls in love with Knecht. Jazz could work a 3-team trade with Detroit and Memphis, where Detroit moves to 9, Memphis to 10 and the Jazz to 5, but the Jazz will need to pay the bill and leave a nice tip.

I think if you're drafting Reed in the top 7 or so picks, you're projecting him to start in your backcourt either as a 1 or next to another PG who can guard up a couple spots.

The more I think about it the more I really like Reed's fit with Charlotte. He fits well with Lamelo if he is healthy but also gives them a pg safety net which is super important in this league.
The strength of Reed in the draft is that he fits anywhere, but who actually wants to invest a high pick in a small guard?

I don't think it's out of the question he drops to the late lottery.

I mean, isn’t that obvious? You aren’t drafting him to start at center lol.

I think he will go 3-6. <10% chance he falls to number 10.

Yeah, that's obvious, but If WAS and SAS don't project him as their starting PG, CHA is happy with Ball and Miller, and POR doesn't want him next to Scoot or Simons, then where's he going?

Would Detroit put him next to Cade? Detroit likely gets their choice of long wings at 5.

Memphis has Ja/Bane and they're reportedly shopping their pick for a veteran. Whoever trades for #9 might be targeting Shep, but they could also be looking for Knecht or even Edey.

If Sheppard gets past Houston at #3, I could see him slip a bit.

Maybe this is part of my ignorance or whatever but I don’t understand why Bronny is in so much of a rush to go to the nba. I mean surely if he stayed for his sophomore season he’d look a lot better. I don’t get the logic?

The problem with Sheppard is that he's small and not elite off the dribble. Once defenders trap him he's not going to go anywhere.

No one will draft any player who they don’t think they will be the player they are supposed to be. Shep can be seen as a full time PG, which he excelled at when given the chance, or playing alongside a ball dominant guard. He did both at Kentucky. He could also be seen as BPA very high up in the draft.

It would be like saying where do Topic/Dillingham go if a team doesn’t think they will be their PG. Well duh….they go to a team where a team thinks they are. This is true of any prospect of any position. The team has to believe in them.

I think there is a higher chance Dillingham falls than Sheppard. You think Sheppard is small look at Dillingham.

Shep could be seen as an ideal fit next to the big PG’s as well. If you’re a pessimist about him, you would say he doesn’t have the ability to be a lead ball handler and is also too small to play SG. Well, problem solved if you’re playing next to Amen, Cade, or Lamelo.

There’s just more chances he can land than Dillingham/Topic. I don’t think it’s crazy to think he could fall to the back of the pack between those three….but there are simply more landing spots for him than the other two.

Do you think WAS or SAS would draft Sheppard over Topic?

100% this.

Do a quick mock that has Dillingham falling past 4 and where does he land?

Detroit? Not with Cade and Ivey.
Charlotte? Off ball from LaMelo? Shep is a much better fit.
Portland? Not with Scoot, Simons, Sharpe.

San Antonio potentially at 8 if they don’t take a guard at 4.

I could see Sheppard going as high as 3 and honestly he might be the favorite there right now. What it Risacher goes 1 and Sarr goes 2? Sheppard is the BPA at 3 which is a luxury pick for Houston anyways.

Sarr, Risacher, and Clingan are for sure going top 9. SAS will likely take a PG with one of their two picks, but probably not two PG’s.

DET
CHO
POR
MEM

These teams will not take Topic/Dillingham, but could take Shep. So we have the first 3 locks, we have the 4 teams who won’t want a PG, and the two SAS picks. If we can agree that SAS will not take both Topic/Dillingham, one of them will be there at #10 assuming no trade shenanigans.

Dilly/Topic going top 2 could throw a wrench into this though.
