2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

So you are calling that if Sheppards is there at 7 the Jazz trade up two spots to steal him from Memphis and SA?
At least from San Antonio keep him away from them.

I wonder if the Jazz will be more aggressive trading up to get their guy after the Wizards beat them to it for Bilal last year.

Jazz could do that type of deal with Memphis at 9 to keep someone else from trading ahead of them. Otherwise, the question is who wants to trade back to #10? And the answer to that is likely whoever falls in love with Knecht, Dillingham or maybe Edey.

Or Cody Williams

Charlotte and Portland reportedly like him a lot.

I think there are scenarios where both Sheppard and Dillingham are available at #10, simply because teams prioritized Castle, Williams, Salaun and Knecht instead.

I feel like you get fixated on stuff that isn’t going to happen every year. Sheppard is not falling to 10.

If Sarr/Clingan/Risacher go top 3 I could see us trading up for Shep at 4. It would get him ahead of his most likely backstops (DET/CHO). If the Jazz take Shep at 4, the Spurs can be reasonably be confident that their PG will be there at #8.

These teams are not taking Topic/Dillingham.

What do you think the Jazz would need to offer the Spurs in order to move up from #10 to #4? And why would the Spurs (who are looking for a PGOTF) trade back with the Jazz when they have their choice of Topic, Dillingham or Sheppard at #4? I think the scenario you're describing is highly unlikely.

Also, fwiw, I think it's unlikely that the Jazz would draft Sheppard over Topic.

Because they think Topic falls to 8 or are comfortable taking Dillingham at 8?

Ferg, teams will trade back if they think they can get their guy at the trade back spot.

I’m not good at trade value….but I’m saying it would be a reasonable move (whatever is fair) for the Spurs would likely still have that choice at #8 that they would have at #4.

In reality, most teams would just take the guy they want at #4, but if it’s Sarr/Clingan/Risacher/Shep top 4 who is going take Topic/Dillingham between 5-7?

* if they're 'dead certain' they can get their guy in a trade-back scenario.

You seem to think that Sheppard is higher on teams' big boards than Topic, Dillingham, Castle and Williams. That may or may not be the case. I'd predict that for a lot of teams it isn't.

Another way to look at Topic/Dillingham being there at #10. What is the scenario where they are both gone? It would have to be one of them going top 3….I suppose that is possible, but I actually think it is more likely that both are available at #10 versus neither.

I’d predict that is the case. Time will tell my friend. I think you’re really underrating Sheppard.

Topic at 2 to Washington is really the only scenario I see them both being gone.
