The *OFFICIAL* Russia Is About To Invade Ukraine Thread

Its funny when someone gleans way too much intent/information from an "upvote", whatever that means.

I often "like" posts I disagree with simply due to the presentation of the post or the work that went into it or whatever.

trump never wanted zelensky to take the deal. You dont insult the person you are dealing with while also praising the instigator in the conflict if you want the deal to be done.
Either trump didn't want zelensky to take the deal or trump is an idiot who doesn't understand how to seal the deal.

He, once again, doesn’t understand his leverage. He thought he could pressure Zelensky both with his own people and with “peace” without security assurances.

There is no peace without assurances.

Trump is pissed because he almost had him! He was all giddy before the meeting and melted down completely in front of everyone. Zelensky probably waited to turn him down on camera so everyone knew he won’t sell out to Trump and Putin.

This is very embarrassing for the U.S.
Rubio’s head will roll.

And if he had made a glorious deal with Zelensky today and criticized Putin as a ruthless dictator and warmonger his followers would be explaining why that was the exact right thing for him to do. But it went the other way, so they are currently explaining why getting into a shouting match in front of the press in the Oval Office and kicking Zelensky out of the White House was the exact right thing for him to do.
Agree 100% because both would have been the right thing to do. The deal was a step in the peace process and ending this war is the right thing to do. Zelensky getting in a shouting match made clear he had no interest in cooperating in anything that would bring peace and Trump was right to kick him out. Both of those scenarios would be the exact right thing to do.

The wrong thing was Zelensky insulting Trump on camera for personal clout with the result being catastrophic for Ukraine. What Zelensky did today was to figuratively whip his Johnson out to urinate on dead Ukrainian soldiers so he could be praised for what an award-winning Johnson he had.

Vance, for his part, fully inhabited the role of a smarmy talk-show sidekick, jumping in to make sure the star got the support he needed while slamming one of the guests. The vice president is an unserious man who tries to insert himself into serious moments, but this time the stakes were much higher than the usual dustups with the media or congressional Democrats. He chuckled as Brian Glenn, a journalist from the right-wing channel Real America’s Voice who is reportedly dating Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, asked Zelensky the tough and incisive question of why he had not worn a suit in the Oval Office. (Perhaps he’ll ask Musk why he wore a hat and T-shirt to a Cabinet meeting, but I doubt it.)

The sheer rudeness shown to a foreign guest and friend of the United States was (to use a word) deplorable as a matter of manners and grace, but worse, Trump and Vance acted like a couple of online Kremlin sock puppets instead of American leaders. They pushed talking points that they either knew or should have known were wrong. Even if Zelensky were as fluent and capable in English as Winston Churchill, he would never have been able to rebut the flood of falsehoods. No, the U.S. has not given Ukraine $350 billion; yes, Zelensky has repeatedly expressed his thanks to America and to Trump; no, Zelensky was not attacking the administration. The Ukrainian leader did his best to stand up to the bullying, but Trump and Vance were playing to the cameras and the MAGA gallery at home.

Vance showed how dedicated he was to point-scoring rather than policy making with an observation so shallow that he was lucky that Zelensky was too off-balance to call him out for it. To emphasize Ukraine’s perilous situation, Vance noted that Zelensky was sending conscripts to the front lines, as if this was an unprecedented policy that only the most desperate regime would dare enact. Zelensky said that all nations at war have problems, but he might have pointed out to Vance that Ukraine is fighting for its very existence, while the United States has dragged conscripts to places far from home—including Korea and Vietnam—to fight against troops supported by the Kremlin.

The entire international order of peace and security is now in danger, as Russian autocrats, after slaughtering innocent people for three years, look forward to enjoying the spoils of their invasion instead of standing trial for their crimes. (Shortly after Trump dismissed Zelensky from the White House, Putin’s homunculus, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, posted on X: “The insolent pig finally got a proper slap down in the Oval Office.”)

This is truly a sad day. It seems maybe I've been accused of being gleeful in regard to the White House meeting today. Nothing could be further from the truth. My faith in my own nation, a nation I served in uniform, was severely diminished today. My pride to be a U.S. citizen has taken a hard hit. My hope for the future of the U.S. has been lessened. Today was bad.

LOL

Russia

Russian officials, however, did voice their support for how the day unfolded.

Former Russian President and current deputy chair of Russia's security council, Dmitry Medvedev, took to X to call Zelenskyy an "insolent pig" and claimed he "finally got a proper slap down in the Oval Office."

"And Donald Trump is right: The Kyiv regime is ‘gambling with WWIII’," he added

We know that Russia bailed trump out financially years ago and trump allowed Russian oligarchs to use his properties to launder money.

We know that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help trump win the election. The Mueller report was unable to conclude with certainty that trump asked for the help but was able to conclude with certainty that the assistance was given regardless. (Lots on convictions including multiple Russians came about due to that investigation)

trump, is a man who insults anyone and everyone unprompted. At the drop of a hat. World leaders, fellow Republicans, people's wives, his opponents, his allies, children on Twitter ..... Literally insults everyone...... Will never say a bad word about Putin or Russia. Even if given the perfect scenario and opportunity to do so.

Trump sided with Russia, North Korea and other enemies of the US in voting against a UN resolution supported by our allies and Russia's enemies that condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Draw your own conclusions.

Yeah but egg prices, the scary brown Spanish speaking horde, and Biden was too boring…

This is the third time in my lifetime that Americans have voted for an *** clown who’s running America into a ditch because the Democratic candidate was just too boring.

I don't think you know how quotes work.

If the EU wants to take on the mantle of providing the lion's share of military aid to Ukraine, I say have at it. For his part Zelensky said he won't apologize to Trump and I support that. Zelensky should get on an airplane and go back to Ukraine.

It’s not that dissimilar from what Trump did to Zelenskyy in 2019 that brought on the first impeachment. He’s blackmailed him for favors and now that Zelenskyy hasn’t given way to Donald’s corruption, Trump the mob boss is now taking his frustration out on him. It’ll never cease to amaze me how rude Trump is to our allies and how subservient he is to Putin. He licks Putin’s balls just like many of our RW trolls do to Trump.

Well, things are certainly more exciting at the moment. I miss the boring times.
You and me both. Biden wasn’t my favorite neither was Harris but imagine how much better we’d be right now if they were still leading this country. I’ve always been blown away at how weird Americans are about politics. Is it because everything from microwave popcorn to health care has become monetized here? We view politics as a form of entertainment. Perhaps other industrialized countries that don’t monetize so much of their society and keep serious important services (like health care) in the hands of serious government leaders understand the importance of electing competent leaders rather than *** clowns for entertainment.

At any rate, soon millions of Americans are going to be feeling the consequences of Trump’s “leadership.” From inflation and economic stagnation to rural hospitals closing to national parks having their capacity limited due to personnel cuts.

I heard some MAGA folks talking about the money losing US Postal Service and how Trump is going to privatize it. They were miffed that not only did the USPS get yet another bail out (I have no idea if this is based in fact or not) but they keep raising the price of stamps. So the best thing to do, obviously, is privatize it.

The reason the USPS loses money, other than licked stamp mail being almost non-existent (meaning that the price of stamps has almost no impact on the average U.S. household) is because the USPS is mandated to deliver mail to even very rural and remote houses. Privatize the USPS and watch rural areas lose delivery to their door overnight. Just to get their electric bill they will have to go to a centralized delivery hub, possibly hours away from them. Amazon orders? Yeah, think again. The USPS made a major move to deliver Amazon packages years ago, primarily in rural areas, and even started forcing carriers to deliver packages on Sundays, which was controversial and faced legal challenges. If they aren't already going to be delivering mail in these communities then delivering these packages no longer makes sense. So say goodbye to your Amazon Prime deliveries if you live in a small community.

It is ironic that rural voters are the backbone of the MAGA movement and I think they are going to be taking a lot of hits from multiple different directions.

I wish I could feel sorry for them. I can't.

Wow, and I’m not a conspiracy theorist. This guy live-streamed the Oval Office scene , where our(??!!) team screamed Putin talking points, back to Moscow. White House said he was not credentialed, it was an accident. Sorry if posted already. Presently jaw dropped as I watch this addition, and thought I’d add a few snapshots, hard to keep up…

I do not believe this was a mistake

Those of you taking issue with Zelensky and his attempt to the prolong the war, let me ask you. Should China invade the United States with superior drones and AI (hypothetically), and our military and people weakened terribly, with casualties of more than one million dead (roughly the same percentage of the population)…should we then simply succumb? Give in so as to prevent more deaths? Is what Zelensky is doing prolonging an unwinnable war or is he simply trying to be just and not allow Russia to take over their country?
Another way to put this is should Europe have simply given in to Hitler to stop the war? I guess everyone who thinks Ukraine should stop fighting would be in favor of Hitler taking over Europe to stop the war, right?

They tried that.
