If the Jazz win then they will almost certainly be second in the tank standings (20% chance at the 6th pick), but will ensure that the Wolves are in the play in and at the very least improve their pick by about 4 spots.

If the Jazz lose they will almost certainly be tied for first in the tank standing (10% chance at the 6th pick if you believe we are capable of winning a coin flip), but the Wolves will definitely not be in the play in and have no chance at a lottery pick, and likely moves our pick from them back by about 4 spots.

Jazz should lose to try and get best chance at #1
Jazz will still get a good player whatever Wolves pick turns out to be
We will have 14% chance at #1 regardless. It's 14% shared amongst bottom three teams. The only difference between having worst and 2nd worst record is falling to 6th spot in the draft instead of 5th, which to me isn't that much of a difference given the talent drop off after top 2 in this draft class and it's basically a complete crapshoot after Dylan Harper. Whoever is projected to go at #3 right now could easily drop to #6 on draft night anyways.

I don't believe this at all. There is no way ace or vj drop to 6th. You may have an argument about the talent drop off at 5 or 6 but I believe the talent drop off starts heavily at 6. A lot of people don't like Johnson but he will definitely fit in on any team that takes him. If the jazz fall to 6th, it would be a devastating season overall

We are already likely to end up at 6th pick. Better odds at 6th than 1st. So who cares if we win or lose?

I think some people would rather get the 5th pick than the 6th. If we lose then there is a chance that the worst possible pick we get is the 5th pick. In that scenario not only would it be unlikely for us to get the 6th pick, it would be impossible.
Having said that, I want to win this one.

I read you loud and clear. Cough**reverse jinx**Cough

But this notion of a “jinx” presupposes mysterious, metaphysical causation initiated through utterances. We view jinx in terms of temporal priority, proximity, and constant conjunction, yet we never observe a necessary connection. No Sir, I cannot endorse the explanatory power of the concept “jinx.”

The point of this season is increasing odds at the top of the draft. Winning actually helps with that.
-If the Jazz win, that increases their chances at a lottery pick, however small.
-the Jazz will probably lose anyway
-the chances that the Jazz pick 6th if they win is relatively low

The Jazz don't have enough of a roster at this point to beat the Wolves. They'd need Sexton, Lauri, Collins, Kessler, etc. Instead they've got Flip, Brice, Juzang, Springer, etc. So this is a non-story. This will be Springer and Svi's last chance of the season to play big minutes.

I do not know what you speak of, good sir. I was merely coughing.

Have the Jazz already announced this? I didn't think anyone besides Cody and Clarkson have been ruled out for the year.

Kessler has a nasal fracture and has been placed in concussion protocol. Collins was announced to be out for the rest of the season with something. Lauri has some back or ankle thing. Sexton might have had some "illness."

But now I'm looking at ESPN, and several of these guys are listed as GTD -- https://www.espn.com/nba/game/_/gameId/401705761/jazz-timberwolves

I'm wondering if the Jazz are messing around or if they're going to try to make a run at this. If the Jazz have Collier, Kessler and Collins, they might be able to compete.

My pet theory is that the league has told the Jazz they'll receive a top-4 pick, which is why the Jazz didn't tank the Portland game and why Ryan said on the broadcast last night that the "Jazz are due to move up in the draft."

But that's probably me over-reacting.

You know what I originally voted to lose because I want to keep our floor on our pick as high as possible. But I feel like there’s 4 guys in the draft and a minny pick would increase our odds of getting one of those guys by 3.6% and that’s enough for me.

Yeah let’s win it.
