Ryan sold RSL to LarryMillerGroup

I didn't know Ryan owned RSL. I didn't not know it, but I didn't know it. It is somewhat strange, though. If the Millers divested themselves from the Jazz, I understand them still wanting to pursue Major League Baseball. I can't understand why they'd care about Major League Soccer. Seems like an odd move to pick up if you've offloaded the Jazz. I'll have to go look at how long Ryan's owned RSL. Just seems like a weird moving of hands of (relatively) minor things that are still big but go in a counterintuitive direction from where all the other moves are.

I don't get it.

Owning the Jazz sold a lot of cars. Owning RSL might not move the needle as much, but the investment isn't as large ether. You are banking that interest in Soccer increases as the years go on. Buy low like they did with the Jazz.

I'm also guessing that the leadership at LHM has some new faces at this point.

Small self correction: Ryan had some ownership, but wasn't the primary owner, it was some major conglomerate whereas Ryan had a smaller stake in the team. This move makes RSL 'owned' (majority stake) by a local group. another side note, the big conglomerate is still part of the picture, which is also supposedly good because they have many other teams and will be a good source of information on how to promote and build a team. (this almost feels like when larry first bought the jazz, saving them from demise due to bad management)

Interesting business move, with the World Cup coming and the continued growth of the MLS in North America id have thought the asset had significant growth potential.

The millers also own land around the stadium and Jordan commons as well so they are probably trying to maximize that venture

As a long time fan of RSL, I don't know how to react to this. Ryan focusing on the jazz and hockey teams? Sure. LHM making a real estate play? It's what a solid investment that I am sure will only make more money.

But from a soccer experience standpoint it feels like a punt at best. RSL had a terrible owner in DeLoy Hansen. He was the pitts. As in, you couldnt find a worse owner for a sports team bad. It was mind numbing stuff watching him dismantle a great team by making budget cuts to coach, management, staff and players all for a real estate play. It culminated in a drunken scout ranting about not being allowed to scout or recruit players and a racist tirade by the GM that forced him out a la LA Clippers owner.

Yall wine about Smith but if you didn't follow the deloy saga you have no idea how bad ownership can get.

I don't know if the LHM group will bring a new era of quality, but they are a lot worse options out there. My biggest concern is that they are only spending $600 million to kick off their real estate empire and they aren't actually invested in a winning soccer team.

For those who say soccer is lame, go to a game.

It is a million times more entertaining than baseball but you can still chill in the sun and watch a great game with friends.

For those who say they don't score enough... football games are usually like 3 - 5 but they count goals for 7 and they get an extra 3 points just for getting the ball past midfield and kicking a ball through an extra wide goal with no pressure and no goalie. If soccer scoring was set that way, every game with be 100+ in scoring.

I disagree with this post more than any other post in the history of Jazzfanz, but I do understand it's subjective, so it's all good.

I've tried to get in to soccer at least 5 times in my life, but have failed each time. I like almost every sport I've tried to get in to, but for whatever reason soccer just isn't for me.

Is Lionel Messi still in MLS soccer
If so if he comes to Utah it will be worth seeing him
He is probably greatest of all time

I lived in Provo when a teenager, as a brazilian I tried out for the school's soccer team thinking my spot was secured. 3 days of tryouts, 1 day of game, 2 days of exercises. Didn't make the team, that made a couple of peruvian players asking the coach why not picking me, the answer: "he doesn't run enough".

I don't follow the MLS, but if they play soccer the same way people played soccer in Utah 25 years ago, I understand why you guys don't like it...:p:p:p

The first professional level soccer game I ever went to was actually a world cup game. And I can say that this post is 100% WRONG. Soccer is insanely boring. I would actually put soccer and baseball at the same level of boredom though. Both are terribly boring to watch and even worse in person. Seriously hockey is the only sport that is on par with basketball for viewing enjoyment. Most other sports are just boring to watch especially if you aren't already a fan. I can understand the people who enjoy the atmosphere and fan events I but that isn't enjoying watching the sport, that's enjoying being at an event like a big party. A fun fan environment isn't a reflection on the sport itself. It's kind of fun going to a professional golf event at a club, but watching golf is still mind-numbingly boring.

The scientific instrument has yet to be invented that can measure my indifference to this occurrence.
