Trade for Giannis?

I think it’s an either or not an and… either you trade the 2025 first if it’s 1 or 2 and you get Giannis or the package is beat by someone else.

I would be more in the camp of keeping Cooper… if the pick fell further than that though…that’s where I consider it. I wouldn’t trade 8 years of Cooper (half of which are on a rookie salary scale) for 2-3 year window with Giannis.

It is too early. I`d rather trade Sexton, Collins and Clarkson for Lillard, and what they have left of picks to trade:
  • The option to either get their 2031 1st round pick or swap it with ours or Phoenix`s
  • The option to either swap their 2032 1st round pick with ours or get it outright if we decided to swap in 2031
Assuming Lillard will sit out the whole next season, we would be left with a squad consisting of Lauri + players on rookie deals.
Good counter proposal. I would hate it because I'm sick of tanking but it might be the right move

We don’t have the juice unless we get Flagg and also trade Flagg. I’m not trading Flagg for Giannis. Maybe if we had more of a team ready for him, but we’d probably spend 1-2 years (aka his best years) putting together an actual squad around Giannis to actually compete. You’d have to have some extremely good besides Giannis cooking to do this, but you also don’t want to be the LAC side of an SGA trade.

I agree with this. I’d also say that being on the other end of some of their swaps might not be the worst. I think they have some value. Dame’s contract doesn’t really hurt us, and if we’re keeping Lauri we really ought to trade Sexton/Collins/Clarkson anyways.

Here's a list of the picks that MIL owes: https://fanspo.com/nba/teams/Bucks/17/draft-picks

2025- BKN
2026 - Swap rights with NOP
2027 - Swap rights with NOP
2028 - swap rights with POR
2029 - POR or WAS based on 2028 results
2030- Swap rights with POR

This is the simplified version, click on the link for more details.

So if I'm Milwaukee I'm looking to deal with NOP or POR in a complete rebuild or someone else who can get me quality players, BUT only if Giannis asks out.
****, is that really all?

Three-team with New Orleans to magically return swaps to Milwaukee? Honestly, they should probably just take a package of budding star players and ball. New Orleans ain’t getting their **** together anytime soon and I suspect Portland is a play-in team for the next few years (unless Scoot finally pops).

We don’t have any budding stars.

Honestly, I love this and I suspect the Bucks would like that a lot more than trading their Jesus.

For some reason I thought that Dame had a lot more years left on his contract. He is owed $54 Million next year and has a PO the year after that.

This makes more sense than PG or Murray in my opinion.

On a personal note, I would love it Dame finishes out his career with the Jazz just as they are ready to compete. Potential story book ending for a local college kid.

All of the players you mentioned are expiring salary as well. I could see the Bucks liking the idea of opening up a max salary slot for 2026. They might be able to sell Giannis on the idea of remaining competitive in 2025 and then adding a star in 2026.

If we're looking at it from MIL's perspective, the hope would be that Giannis doesn't demand a trade and then make a cap space play next summer. With Dame off the books, they would have max cap space. IMO, this makes Collins and Sexton attractive trade targets because they give a decent amount of value for one season and expire at the right time.

I mean, with PG or Murray, the idea is you’re getting a top-5 pick but yeah, the fit/contract is certainly better.

Also, if we don’t include Clarkson, they save a tonnn of money.

Luka Doncic has a player option in 2026...

We aren't even close to being in the conversation for Giannis with what the thunder and rockets can offer without getting a top 2 pick this year to trade and I have zero interest in that. We aren't capable of building a team around Giannis that can beat the thunder and rockets going forward so I don't see the point.

Yes, I would prefer a top 2-6 pick this year vs a 2031/2032 pick/pick swap, but those picks/swaps would be extremely valuable, and we aren't committing so much of our cap space in to future years.

It’s sort of a tradeoff scenario, but we can actually do both.

I would also add that for the most part, the versatility of those swaps’ value is somewhat constrained. But having hostage swaps for if/when Giannis does go on the market would be tight (saying nothing of the scenario that they are bad in six and/or seven years which seems like a decent play).

I personally like the idea of having a play finisher/high quality player for the young players to play with. It feels like trading away Collins/Sexton for a player that won't play next season should be enough to reach our goal of keeping the 2026 pick away from OKC.
