What's new

Last good song you listened to?

Its funny how I remember REM as being this huge band and culture phenomenon and then they just disappeared without a whimper.
I don't think I even listened to anything they recorded after they signed that gigantic record deal, myself. Altho the Best Of album they released as part of that was one of the best anthologies I've seen.

Green and Automatic for the People were my two favourite albums.

Ubu Roi and Mu'ammar: with all their sadopopular ambitions
(characterised by many lies
Beyond the normal scope of even politicians)
Dismantled one by one the democratic institutions of their nations
Then the knocks at midnight came and the executions, pogroms and deportations
And everyone ignored the signs:
The gradual crescendo of their crimes
Slowly it comes at first, then all at the one time

They signed the big deal in 97, I believe, those albums were both before that. I personally was more a fan of Fables of the Reconstruction, Reckoning, and Murmur.

My older cousin was a big fan of Murmur, I believe Monster was the first album off that big deal, I got a burnt copy of it from somewhere, wasn't super impressed.

By the mid nineties I was listening to stuff like Ani DiFranco, Portishead, Nina Simone, Beth Orton and you know local bands like Nick Cave, You Am I, Something for Kate, Magic Dirt, Powderfinger, Blue Bottle Kiss. I hadn't yet discovered the Dirty Three that was in the summer of 99 or 2000,
