Trump Dictatorship and All Things Politics

I was just going to post about this.
Trump got big mad that Amazon would show us the true cost of his tariffs so he had a meeting with bezos and now bezos isn't going to be transparent about the tariffs costs any longer.

trump called it a "hostile political act" lol.

So, telling the people the truth - by showing them how much Trump's reckless & dangerous tariffs will have on prices - is considered a "hostile and political act." Wow. There is no limit to Trump's dictatorship ambitions and efforts to stop the public from seeing the impact of his misguided decisions.

Since when is the truth a political act? The government has demanded all taxes and fees be disclosed on many industries. This is a a tax. I deserve the right to know how much I am paying.

Let's see, Amazon has always listed the item price, the cost of shipping and the sales taxes on the purchase. Exactly what is wrong with listing the additional cost of tariffs that the buyer is required to pay?

"I just got off the phone with the president about the Amazon announcement. This is a hostile and political act by Amazon," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said at an April 29 morning briefing with reporters.

After reading about Amazon's reported plans, Trump called Bezos on the morning of April 29 to complain about the move, a senior White House official confirmed to USA TODAY.

The White House had already blasted the second-largest retailer in the United States in what seemed like an escalating battle between Trump and Bezos.

"Why did Amazon do this (now) when the Biden administration hiked inflation to the highest level in four years?" Leavitt said, adding that "it's not really a surprise" because "Amazon has partnered with a Chinese propaganda arm."

In a dictatorship the truth is a hostile political act.

I gave the Trump team too much credit. Full admission. I thought the MS-13 photoshop was purposeful to show an interpretation of the actual knuckle tats. Nope, they told the lie enough that Trump himself insists it is tattooed exactly as MS13.

Going after Amazon like this is a hostile political act. This isn’t conservative in the slightest, just like everything Trump maybe excluding some immigration stuff (not the majority). Are there any conservative supporters left or is it all butt hurt grudge holders?

Why is he mad? Shouldn’t he want credit for these tariffs? Didn’t he promise us that tariffs wouldn’t increase inflation? Now it sounds like it will and he doesn’t want us to know it.

Where are our “principled not maga conservatives on this website” to berate Trump here? Why shouldn’t prices be transparent? Why should the president get to beat down and intimidate Bezos like this? Isn’t not conservative and kinda scary big gubbamint?

I thought trade wars were easy to win?

If we think China is gonna call it quits while Dump is worried that Americans knowing how much stuff costs on Amazon might ruin our resolve, then we’ve lost this trade war already. The Chinese can endure pain far better than Americans can. So why even start this fight?

The good thing is, this recession is gonna hit hard in the next few weeks. And true, the cult won’t care but I have a feeling that a lot of other Americans are about to feel that hot stove in ways they’ve never felt before and I’m just gonna enjoy eating my popcorn. It’s going to be thoroughly delicious for me and my family seeing this. Many of you bought the ticket cuz icky black woman, now you will ****ing enjoy this ride!

I've seen the response from MAGA in comments sections. The reason UPS is laying people off is NOT the tariffs, it is because Amazon delivers a lot of their own packages now.

Of course, non-cultists are aware that Amazon has been delivering their own packages a lot for the better part of a decade now, but let's be quiet and not disturb the cults feelings, because they have very sensitive feelings.

This actually reminded me of a very old joke.

Guy dies and goes up to heaven. The guy who is at the gate, I forget his name, is showing the new guy around. Here's the tennis courts, here's the fish pond, over there is the hiking trails, there is a movie theatre and bowling alley over that way. But then they pass by a large area surrounded by very high walls. The new guy asks, what's going on in there? His guide shushes him, be quiet, those are the Mormons, they think they're the only ones up here.
What about the price of eggs? Have they come down yet? How about homes?

I have we told that Trump was gonna fix those things on day 1. Has it been day 1 yet?

From Wikipedia on the great Yaclav Haval's opus The Power of the Powerless;

Havel uses the example of a greengrocer who displays in his shop the sign Workers of the world, unite! Since failure to display the sign could be seen as disloyalty, he displays it and the sign becomes not a symbol of his enthusiasm for the regime, but a symbol of both his submission to it and humiliation by it. Havel returns repeatedly to this motif to show the contradictions between the "intentions of life" and the "intentions of systems", i.e. between the individual and the state, in a totalitarian society.

An individual living within such a system must live a lie, to hide that which he truly believes and desires, and to do that which he must do, to be left in peace and to survive. This is comparable to the classical tale of "The Emperor's New Clothes."

[T]hey must live within a lie. They need not accept the lie. It is enough for them to have accepted their life with it and in it. For by this very fact, individuals confirm the system, fulfill the system, make the system, are the system.

Individuals at each level within the bureaucracy must display their own equivalent of the grocer's Workers of the world, unite! sign, oppressing those below them and in turn oppressed by those above. Against this public lie is contrasted a life lived in truth, a title suggested by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and his essay "Live Not By Lies". Havel argued that the restoration of a free society could only be achieved through a paradigm based on the individual, "human existence", and a fundamental reconstitution of one's "respect for self, for others and for the universe;" to refuse to give power to empty slogans and meaningless rituals, to refuse to allow the lie to oppress one, and to refuse to be part of the lie that oppresses others. By doing so individuals illuminate their surroundings revealing to others that they have power.

Half a century later Haval is more relevant than ever.

This is so immoral. It’s evil.

If you have friends or family who voted for Trump, show them this. We need to make these degenerates (you know who you are) feel uncomfortable. They need to know that the silent majority find their leader and his fascism morally repulsive. For far too long we’ve pandered to the trolls on this boards and the losers who voted for this piece of crap. We need to make them feel our moral outrage. Force them to change or stop voting altogether.

Book burnings to follow...

Who said Those who burn books will one day burn people?

Red, what he says is completely stupid. Be honest. Have you ever attended a school system in a foreign country? I have. The influences that supposed expert denotes as being the domain of fascism are in the majority of government-funded school systems on the planet.

I find it hilarious that you claim the American people are waking up and posting a reenacted quote from Thomas Jefferson showing we are the same non-fascist place we've been from the very beginning, then scampering right back to the lunacy of insisting we are fascism. We aren't fascism. Your expert is dumb and needs to go get a job at Starbucks instead of poisoning the minds of our youth with his retarded nonsense.
Nah, I actually burst out laughing when you posted the German citizens comparison, my first thought being does he actually think he can bring me down emotionally? And he actually rushed it, couldn’t wait to bring me down. Lol, I honestly burst out laughing at the sheer absurdity of such an effort on your part. I’m a veteran of taking things to the street. We made a difference in another age when Americans were pitted against Americans.

It was like “wow, the “ink” from my comment isn’t even dry yet, and here’s AI, hoping he can bring me down”! Hahaha…you’re priceless!

I am encouraged by all the demonstrations. Inspiring. All home made signs, by the thousands at every rally. Every one of those American citizens said: “what do I want to say? What is my message to authority?”, before writing it on their personal sign. This movement is growing. All the polls say the vast majority of Americans understand they are dealing with a wannabe dictator. By a HUGE margin. I chose to believe, in the long run, that who we are, as a good and decent people, will reassert itself and triumph in the end!

IMG_5903.jpeg

Those German people you mentioned, from Hitler’s day, how much experience did they have in democracy, and the knowledge that popular sovereignty says we the people are sovereign? I think the American populace is indeed waking up. I think our memory of the good and decent people we have been will push Trumpism aside in time. Our memory of who we are will not die. Yeah, I think our experience and commitment to democracy, to the sovereignty of the people, is a tad more ingrained in Americans in 2025 than Germans in the 1930’s….

If you don’t understand the inner psychology of a fascist, but insist on restricting the definition to economic framework, or whatever, you are missing the point completely.

The past INFORMS the present.

I don’t need your help understanding fascism, AI-O-Meter. Should I just ignore two of the leading scholars of fascism and accept your conclusion? Should I just throw out whatever critical thinking skills my history profs instilled in me, and for which I am ever grateful? Should I forget that the past INFORMS the present? Should I forget that so many go through life sleepwalking through the history of their own lifetime, thus failing to recognize the fascist psychology in a leader, when he appears within the body politic?

It has happened here, before, and yes indeed, it is happening again. Your opinion is not worth much to me. It’s a never ending refrain from you, and I have no interest at all in your ignorance on this subject. And again, your effort to see if you could “deflate my hope”, well, I’ll just say I’m glad I was not drinking my morning coffee!

Sarah Churchwell believes the original KKK was the first true fascist entity in the modern era. I think of our developing American specie of fascism by the term Americanism.

Yeah dude, didn't you hear what Trump said? They're down 96%. Also, Pam Bondi tweeted today that the administration seized 22 million fentanyl pills, saving 119 million American lives. A third of us would've died in the past 2 months if not for Trump! We're so ungrateful!

Your above comment is a perfect reflection of your well known(to me) antipathy and hatred of academic studies in general. You’re quite the enemy of higher education in the United States. You may not realize it, but it has come through time and time again. Overall, you impress me as someone who truly hates education, hates the “world of the mind”, the domain of intellectuals, who, after all, are just those among us who are never happier then when we are immersed in the world of ideas and learning.

Here’s my expert. And as far as your wording in describing him? Did you even realize that your comment reflects far more on YOU, than it does the scholar in question? It’s a reflection of your overall attitude toward any higher educator who dares to challenge his students to use their critical thinking skills.

Your comment, in other words, really reflects very poorly on YOU, certainly not Stanley, and it’s not something you should be proud of sharing with anyone! Even willing to use the word “retarded”. Yikes!

My expert:

“This fall he’ll decamp to the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, where he was offered the position of Bissell Hyatt Chair in American Studies”

I don’t believe he is offered that position because he’s dumb. That’s a prestigious chair. You, AI-O-Meter, on the other hand? . Why don’t you write a peer review article, describing why Stanley is as stupid as you claim. You have the academic credentials to write a good analysis of his ignorance, and should have no problem publishing in a prestigious journal.

Yes, the past informs the present, which is why your expert's claims of fascism are laugh-out-loud dumb. Government is first and foremost an economic framework always. The past informs on the characteristics that typify a fascist government. You and your experts have to throw history out the window, claiming fascism is different every time, to draw your nonsense picture. I don't expect you to take my word. I expect you to let the past inform the present, which you flatly refuse to do. It isn't me versus those morons you keep citing. It is history, a.k.a. the past, versus the morons you keep citing.

It isn't different every time. It isn't fascism. It is something else you are trying to mislabel.

The position isn't offered to the smartest person. There is no slate of candidates who line up to take a test with the high score being awarded the position. He was offered the position because of his connections, and surprise-surprise, even dumb people can build formidable connections.

You’re arguing with a troll who’s likely a frustrated closeted homosexual who knows that coming out would likely lead to being kicked out of his parent’s basement.
