Mayonnaise is to tenderize the meat and helps keep it from drying out during grilling. I'm not sure that's a concern with grilled cheese, but maybe it would tenderize the bread if you're using a tougher bread? :)

my sister has two dogs (they're adorable) but it drives me a little crazy that she refers to herself as their "humommy" - though I guess that's better than just calling herself their Mommy. But she'll say things to them like "Humommy says NO!" and it just seems strange.

My money would be on an unbalanced load. Was it a fairly large load with big, heavier towels? If it was a large load, try removing some of it - if a small load, try adding a couple more things. I would have no clue about replacing the pump.
