    PRIDE Week.

seems only natural your wife might have it easier since she now can relate to and identify with your child more as a daughter - whereas in the past you felt connected because you both shared a bond of being "male" - but now that's changed and so how you relate to your child also changes and...

    PRIDE Week.

I've also seen LGBTQQ+ where one Q is Queer and the other is Questioning the QUEER part can be seen sort of as an umbrella term - Lesbians are women attracted to women, Gays are men attracted to men, Queer can include both Lesbians, Gays and those who don't feel they fall into either strictly...

my husband using 3 feet of dental floss to floss his teeth - and then when he throws it away, most of it ends up hanging out over the side of the wastebasket

Jon Stewart on white privilege (cc: unnamed posters... etc.)

getting back to the use of the term "privilege" because I honestly think that one specific word turns some people away from the concept because to them it connotes great wealth, and they can't see it any other way... I would much prefer if the term had been "white advantage" - It is something...

    James Holzhauer Jeopardy Genius

yep, clicker speed is very important - a friend of my daughter's was on some years back when they were doing one of their "College Editions" and she did OK but she said she definitely would have done better if she was better at buzzing-in any one here remember a poster from years back - Catzies...

LDS general conference thread, Apr 2019

i know a similar thread is posted each year, so I thought it might be nice to have a link to some of the threads from prior years https://jazzfanz.com/threads/fall-2018-general-conference-thread.97351/ https://jazzfanz.com/threads/april-2017-lds-general-conference-thread.64321/...

    Stupid Pet Peeves

I'm not sure, maybe I've never heard him use that word. And funny thing, when I read your post, in my mind I said it as "adver-TIZE-mint" but if I'm using that word in a conversation I'll say "advertusmint" - it just flows better I guess. I know there are other words I'll do that with (say...

    Stupid Pet Peeves

my husband has some idiosyncratic speech habits that I think may be due to his having grown up on Long Guyland - I now find them amusing but they irked me to no end for many years: close the light (turn it off) and kitchen closet (for cabinet or cupboard) and to be honest, he never said Long...

Negative effective tax rate for many companies

this guy makes a great point in his podcast about the salary structure of big business and how companies could pay high wages to everyone if they wanted - - to paraphrase "fast-food companies could pay $20 per hour minimum wages to all their employees - MacDonald's might not be able to do it and...

Jon Stewart on white privilege (cc: unnamed posters... etc.)

generally, terms and phrases like "coded language" and "trigger words" set my hair on fire but I do think that for some people, using the term "privilege" is sort of a trigger that gets them thinking in a way that is counterproductive to dialogue of sharing ideas and points of view I get that...

    Notre Dame on fire

LOL. Though it's a laugh tinged with sorrow (and hope... always hope) on a related note, Chicago is BIG Noter Dame territory (as in the University of...) and several times on the radio the newscaster has said "NOTER DAME" and then quickly correctly themselves to say "NOTRE DAHM" interesting...

    Notre Dame on fire

the Alhamabra in Granda, Spain is another iconic structure - - overall perhaps not as much grandeur as Notre Dame, at least not in an enclosed space - - it's really impossible to compare to anything in the U.S. because we just don't have structures like these that go back 1000 years

    Notre Dame on fire

so very tragic - - but it seems like it's not *quite* as bad as it seemed at first... hopefully this will be something to provide some unity because France has certainly had its share of unrest in the past few months

Jon Stewart on white privilege (cc: unnamed posters... etc.)

ok, so I moved a bunch of posts from the Pet Peeve thread because they seemed very appropriate to the discussion that had been underway here I think the point about awareness being a helpful feeling but guilt and shame not being helpful is a good point - - those who hear/read the term...
