This is a dumb question, but I figure someone here should be able to explain how things work. I'm curious how it works trading future picks when the team sending out the pick already has an outgoing pick that's protected and can roll over to subsequent years. For example, our 2024 1st rounder...
I think I'm like most here when I say that, if we are going to trade Donovan and tank, I don't like the idea of getting involved with the Miami's or Toronto's of the world. Obviously, if we're tanking and trading Donovan, the biggest assets we'd be getting would be unprotected first round...
Not saying I’m advocating for this, but what would everyone’s reaction be to the following?
BKN gets Mitchell + Ayton
PHX gets Durant
UTA gets Simmons and 4 unprotected 1sts and 3 pick swaps from PHX + any available draft assets BKN can offer.
I could see Ainge entertaining that offer...
Seems like both us and BKN would want a haul of picks to go along with a move like this. I don’t think PHX can satisfy those demands. If this is legit, this has got to be a monster deal with another team (possibly more) involved to make everything work.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but by waiting until after the draft, Ainge was able to get both Walker (their 2022 pick) as well as 4+ picks, as opposed to if he did the trade pre-draft, he’d only have been able to get Walker + 3 picks - is that right?
Ah, next year will be nostalgic. It was always great hoping for another team, whose pick you had, to lose every night. Fond memories of previous seasons when I could root for the Nets, or Warriors, or Knicks to lose. Looks like this year it'll be Philly.
I’m hoping for a Gobert trade to either ATL or CHI for some good young assets + 1 future first rounder. I’m then hoping for a Donovan trade to a perennial cellar dweller like Orlando or Sacramento for 1 good young asset and as many future 1st rounders + pick swaps as possible.
At the same time, if this is the going rate for someone like Murray who only has 2 years left on his deal, we should be able to demand a king's ransom for Donovan...
My ideal scenario was hiring a fresh face like Hardy, and then getting him to entice a Stotts or Vogel to be his lead assistant. Hoping that scenario is on the table. Can't imagine someone like Stotts wants to just spend another year outside the game.
